- 1900 Citing the Superbas’ poor attendance at Brooklyn’s Washington Park, National League president Ned Young discusses the possibility of transferring the franchise to the District of Columbia. En route to their second consecutive title, the reigning NL champions are averaging only a thousand fans on non-holiday dates.
- 1957 In his first major league start, Von McDaniel‚ who graduated from Oklahoma’s Hollis High School last month, two-hits the Dodgers at Busch Stadium‚ 2-0. Brooklyn does not get a hit off the 18 year-old bonus baby until the sixth inning.
- 1998 Bill Russell is released as Dodger manager and is replaced in the dugout by Glenn Hoffmann. In the front office, Tommy Lasorda assumes the general manager duties of the third-place club from Fred Claire.
- 2016 Dean Kremer becomes the first-ever Israeli to sign a contract with a Major League baseball team when he comes to terms with the Dodgers, after being selected in the annual amateur draft earlier this month. The 20-year-old right-hander, who won Europe’s Most Valuable Pitcher award in both 2014 and 2015, has hurled for Israel’s national baseball team for the past three seasons. (Note: Kremer was traded to the Orioles in the Manny Machado deal in 2018; he’s 17-18 in four years with the Orioles).
- 2021 Needing only 197 games, nine-year veteran Yu Darvish becomes the fastest pitcher to record 1,500 career strikeouts, easily eclipsing Randy Johnson, who needed nine more starts to reach the milestone. NPUT
Bickford, Hudson and Nelson have all gone to OKC for rehab assignments.
Meanwhile, regression has begun. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/7fa5e144e28eab542ca86fcbbd2ac7be298d6cff66e612e9098c7badd5f5a4ca.png
Shelby Miller’s gonna be out for three or four weeks.
No game today, but Jon W. has an interview with Ron Cey up at his site. Cey is making the rounds promoting his semi-autobiography (written with Ken Gurnick), “Penguin Power”.
Nice job, Ryan(!) whoever you are!
W00T!
High marks in penmanship!
Clearly a bull market in Dodgerland
A really well-managed game and a lights-out bullpen.
AH-OOOOOOOOOO!!! Gonna get a big dish of beef chow mein.
Woo-HOO!!!
Quality futuring!
Uno mas, please!
Wow! Phillips fools Trout completely!
Trout almost caught that ball
VarGone!!
Vargas says phooey to OKC!
Yes!!!! Vargas!!!!
Yes!
Yahtzee.
Every time I check the Giants game they are challenging a play…
They won an absurd Busted Poseur challenge when their runner was out by ten feet at the plate.
So, if everything goes well this inning our reward will be to face Ohtani, Trout and Dury in the ninth. Guessing we see Evan.
Caleb stays in to face Ohtani?
Okay, Caleb. Keep this going!
Instant replay of last night, please.
Well, that was uplifting.
Our bullpen has decided to be excellent tonight!
Paddles melting down at Software Stadium.
Vargas regressing.

Good job by Vesia there.
And there.
Self-redemption?
Vesia lives to see another day.
He worked through adversity.
Well, another inning at least.
Good grief.
Busch play.
Uggh
Uggggggh!!
??
Vargas strike out.
Soto has already grounded into 2 double plays
Keggers snakebit in Milwaukee too.
Do the Freddie….
Freeman sets that ball free!
Served on the rocks
Excellent.
That was a thing of beauty.
Nice bounce and tag!
Two nights in a row!
Smith with another good tag
No challenge tonight.
Runner wanted one.
Don’t they always
You read my mind Bum. LOL
It’s the same with fielders
Fooled myself. West Coast so assumed 10:10 start for me.
So, like a true LA fan just getting here at the third inning
Does that mean you will leave early?
Yeah, sometime after midnight.

Obviously I was misled when I wrote that Grove was gonna start. Oh well.
That was the speculation.
Two nice innings for Brewster.
Is this Ohtani’s audition?
Regarding Dean Kremer, it’s worth mentioning that he’s a dual citizen, born and raised in Stockton. He’s done OK for the Songbirds, good enough to start for a quality team, but has been less than dominant.
Thanks for the background.
