Guardians at Dodgers, 4:15 PM PDT, TV: Fox
RHP Cal Quantrill (4-3, 3.38 ERA) goes for the Guardians and LHP Julio Urías (3-6, 2.80 ERA) goes for the Dodgers. Quantrill was sick before his last start, but he recovered well enough. “His stomach settled down in the second or third inning and he did as well. The A’s second batter, Ramon Laureano, touched him for a solo shot to the Home Run Porch in left field. It was the only run Quantrill surrendered in his six innings. He allowed four hits, walked two and struck out four.” Urías “allowed two runs on three hits and no walks while striking out 10 in six innings, but he took the loss Sunday versus the Giants. Despite allowing only eight runs in his last 23.1 innings, Urias has now gone four starts without a win.” Last year he got plenty of run support; this year he’s gotten very little.
Not the Dodgers’ best baserunning moment:

Today in Dodgers’ history:
- 1938 After accepting GM Larry MacPhail’s offer to coach first base, Babe Ruth wears a Dodger uniform for the first time as a coach and takes batting practice with the team. The ‘Bambino’ will quit at the end of the season, ending his ties with major league baseball.
- 1940 Dodger Ducky Medwick, acquired in a trade less than a week ago, is beaned by former Cardinal teammate Bob Bowman and needs to be carried off the field on a stretcher. Brooklyn president Lee MacPhail accuses the St. Louis pitcher of deliberately hitting Medwick in the head because the two had quarreled in a hotel elevator prior to the game.
- 1996 Brant Brown hits the first three home runs of his career on the same day. The 25 year-old rookie goes deep as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning off Chan Ho Park in a 9-6 loss to the Dodgers in the opener of a Wrigley Field twin bill, but his two additional round-trippers contribute to Chicago’s 7-4 victory in the nightcap.
- 2014 With the only batter reaching base as a result of a throwing error by shortstop Hanley Ramirez in the seventh inning, Clayton Kershaw no-hit the Rockies at Dodger Stadium, striking out a career-high 15 batters. The left-hander’s teammate Josh Beckett also threw a no-hitter 24 days ago, making it the shortest span between no-hitters by a team since the Reds’ Johnny Vander Meer accomplished it in consecutive starts, four days apart, in 1938.

Holy cow. Sandy actually spoke publicly for ten minutes. He’s always been so famously quiet!
The Padres pitching coach is named Niebla. This startled until I recalled that the hero of “Around the World in 80 Days” is Fogg.
All the starters got a hit except Barnsy and he had a Sac Fly.
Perhaps we will break out of the funk we have been in for the month of June.

Further info about Betts’ injury.
As Rox stone Pads again, Dodgers return to first place.
Thanks, Rockies!
Yay.. 1st place. Rocky Road Ice Cream…
Dang! Mookie going in IL with cracked rib.
Oh no. That’s bad news.
Sandy himself. 80-something years old but still looks spry.

This was a GOOD GAME!
Yes. A welcome relief.
Sure, though 2-14 RISP, so that continues.
Definately a concern.
But better than we’ve been.
Sure.
Woo-HOO!!!
Moranta! Doing great so far.
Moranta moment has arrived.
I do like first pitch strikes!
The unveilng:

It’s really a dramatic
stance! I love it. (Up there with the Jackie steal statue!)
C’mon Bick, throw strikes.
11 of 17.

We will take it!
Graciously.
Greedily.

I don’t want to think about this too hard.
Seems odd.

I have to say Justin’s defense has been sterling this game.
This game is more better
Rox have just taken a 2-0 lead over the Pads in the first.
I’m not really greedy, but man, striking out with the bases loaded is a heckuva wasted opportunity.
That Gose is really good though.
Bust it open Belli.
Gose too good.
Friggin’ lefty.
Freddie really knows how to find holes!
I am at the game. Most relaxing contest in quite a while. Koufax statue is special.
It looks amazing.
Nice, Julio!
I just realized Scooplew is at this game. Is he the lucky charm we needed?
He needs to check in.
Enjoying myself tremendously. Trying to figure out how to attach a photo. Happy Father’s Day tomorrow to all who observe. I will be driving home, listening to the game on SiriusXM.
How can anyone see with those shadows? I can’t see a thing!
Oddball starting time.
Fox TV announcer just called the Guardians the Indians.
Maybe he meant to say “Spiders.”
Cody doing well this series.
CT3 with another bang, bang (bang he catches the ball, bang his body takes a blow)
CT3 does a Mookie!
Recalling Cal’s dad being the first reliever up back in the day for the Dodgers, followed by Mota and then closed by Gagne.
Moving involves storing things until you have a new place to put them.

I thought Will might have had a HR there.
And the hits keep coming!
Julio likes having run support.
Don’t we all!
Mama not mad any more.
Don’t stop now!
Yes! Thanks, Gavin!
Come on guys. Gotta get this next run in, too.
Lux bails out Belli and Taylor..
JT! Yes! RBI. Tides are turnering.
Is there a more loathsome scammer than Michael Milken? (Wait, don’t answer that).
Is this THAT Michael Milken?
Indeed it is. He set the standard for scammers (subsequently superseded).
By Elizabeth Holmes most recently, but there are plenty of them.
There’s one standout scammer whose name everybody knows, and he’s unlikely ever to be superseded.
You mean he trumps all the other scammers?
Julio is feeling it this inning!
This feels overdue.
Life!
TREA!!!!!
Perhaps Barnes needs to play more often.
Not a great bat.
Better than JT and Muncy.
Since a hot start, he’s not done much.
He hasn’t played much.
What was that?
Situational hitting?!?!?!
This looks promising.
Better hitting.
CT3! Ground rule double!
Had it stayed in play, Belli mighta scored.
No doubt.
Belli is doing better.
Belli punches another one to left!
Beauty of a pitch by Urias.
Well, at least they got the statue right. It really is spot on Sandy.
However, the game is young.
I’m mad at the ump and mad at JT and mad at the team.
JT swings thru a meatball for strike three.
Maybe he needs a vision check?
Needs something. I wonder how long the leash is on JT and Muncy?
Another bad strike call.
Yep. Down and inside.
Oh, no. Prove me wrong JT!
Nice hit, Max!
Can Muncy make amends here?
First two pitches to Trea identical – but one a ball, one a strike.
Unbelievable.
When a team is cold, nothing seems to go their way.
Nice K!
Poor Julio. Maybe we can get him a few runs this game.
Long overdue.
Uggh
Here we go again.
Oh Max. Seriously?
Not an easy chance, but he almost always makes that.
Yeah. Called an error.
Agree with the scoring, but disapprove of the score.
His release point looks terrible.
Good Grief.
Inauspicious start. We could use a DP.
Throw strikes, Julio.
And then when he does, it doesn’t get called.
Sigh.
Nice grab, JT!

Not again…
Why are we getting this trashy handegg when there’s supposed to be baseball?
Like Charlie Brown, Lucy, and the football, I return!
Maybe the Dodgers offensive will decide to make an appearance today/
