Dodgers at Pirates, 4:05PM PT, TV: SPNLA, MLBN (out-of-market only), ROOT Sports
To start this game the Dodgers brought up Nick Tepesch from OKlahoma City, where he’d achieved a 2.00 ERA in 18 innings. They acquired him as a free agent June 6 after he was released by the Texas Rangers, where’d he spent five years, mostly in their minor league system. He has a 9-17 record and a 4.56 ERA in the big leagues, all with the Rangers. His opponent will be Jameson Taillon, who’s 1-1 with a 3.50 ERA in his previous three big league starts.
To make room for Tepesch on the roster, the Dodgers designated Will Venable for assignment.

Old friend Big Game James Loney makes a spectacular catch of a low throw to get the final out of the Mets-Braves game. You’ll have to watch a weird double-play first.
Dubbed WGJ (Wierd Game James) by his former roomie Pee Wee.
promising news on Ryu and McCarthy

Frustrating loss. Never could get over the hump. Had the bullpen been perfect, and it has been very good lately, things might have been different. I don’t expect that Tepesch will remain on the roster. Here’s hoping that the Phillies can beat the Giants tonight and keep us only 6 out.
Got behind too big an eight-ball too early. Tepesch is not an answer.
Tepesch is minor league depth. Timing was wrong for other potential callups.
Any late inning magic left or did we use it all up in LA?
There may be some left judging by that hit from Seager.
Nope. I was wrong.
This is a frustrating tit for tat game. I’d love for us to get more tats than them.
You have a way with words.
Will Pirates get to their 10 before Dodgers get to their 11?
Sacrifice flies with the bases loaded are a mixed blessing, at best.
Not maximizing one’s chances, I agree.
Inching closer. Hold ’em, bullpen!
Dammit. Get close only to give up more runs and fall back.

Maybe we will win this one 11-10.

Might just.
Joc’s padding his exit velocity stats but not much to show for it
Two runs are far better than none, but that could have been a much bigger inning.
Ordinarily, 48 pitches for strikes out of 68 would be commendable. Unfortunately, a bunch of those strikes became base hits.
I guess we are to assume Zack Lee would have done worse.
Apparently the Zackster had a terrible first start at Tacoma yesterday.
Maybe we will win this one 11-10.
Might just.
I thought this before the first pitch: Nick Tepesch is the best alternative that Friedman and Zaidi could come up with?
Uh-oh.
Tepesch with an encouraging first, and Puig continues to swing well.
Good thing we don’t count on Tepesch for hits.
Unfortunately, it appears, we are counting on him for pitching.
