Frank Loesser wrote “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve” and Ms. Whiting recorded it in 1947. It wasn’t intended for a musical or movie, but it’s become a classic. It’s one of some 700 songs for which Loesser wrote lyrics. He died of lung cancer in 1969; he was only 59 years old.
