Game 134, 2016

Padres at Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, FSSD

Young Julio Urias (5-2, 3.71 ERA) pitches for the Dodgers and Clayton Richard (1-3, 3.51 ERA) does so for the Padres. Urias is probably nearing his last start for the Dodgers because of a desire to limit his work and save his arm this season (he’s never thrown more than 87 innings in a single season before, and he’s thrown 108 thus far this season), but he’s been getting better with every start. Richard has done the same for the Padres; after signing with them in early August he’s made three starts and given up only two earned runs in 18 innings.

Here’s some news: among the other callups and activations today (Barnes, Coleman and more)

Dodgers at Rockies, Game One, 12:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, ROOTRM

Game Two, 5:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, ROOTRM

The postponement of Tuesday’s rainout till today means the Dodgers will pitch Ross Stripling (3-5, 4.13 ERA) in the opener and Rich Hill in the nightcap at 5:10PM PT. Stripling will face Tyler Anderson, who was the scheduled starter on Tuesday before the rainout. Hill will face rookie Jeff Hoffman, (0-2, 8.10 ERA).

Game 132, 2016

Dodgers at Rockies, 5:40PM PT, TV: SPNLA, ROOTRM

It’s a battle of lefties tonight. The Dodgers send Rich Hill (10-3, 2.09 ERA) out for his second start since being acquired at the trade deadline, and the Rockies counter with Tyler Anderson (4-5, 3.69 ERA). In his first outing for the Dodgers Hill went six scoreless innings against the Giants; in his last start Anderson gave up two runs in five innings against the Brewers.

Game 131, 2016

Dodgers at Rockies, 5:40PM PT, TV: SPNLA, ROOTRM

Kenta Maeda (13-7, 3.37 ERA) goes for the Dodgers and Jon Gray (8-6, 4.61 ERA) does likewise for the Rockies. Both rookies have been solid recently: Maeda has given up three runs or fewer in each of his last six starts, and Gray has a 5-1 record at home in twelve starts at Coors.

The Rockies took two of three from the NL East-leading Nationals over the weekend while the Dodgers did the same to the NL Central-leading Cubs.

The Dodgers have reportedly placed Yasiel Puig on revocable waivers, which means he could be claimed but then pulled back by the Dodgers or he could be let go.

Game 130, 2016

Cubs at Dodgers, 1:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, CSN-C, TBS

Lefty Jon Lester (14-4, 2.81 ERA) goes for the Cubs and RHP Brock Stewart (0-2, 11.25 ERA) takes the hill for the Dodgers. Lester’s been pitching even better than his record looks: he’s 5-0 with a 2.28 ERA since the All-Star break. In Stewart’s first two career starts in the big leagues he’s given up 14 earned runs and five dingers.

Game 129, 2016

Cubs at Dodgers, 1:05PM PT, TV: FS1, SPNLA

Julio Urias (4-2, 3.95 ERA) will pitch for the Dodgers and Jason Hammel (13-6, 3.06 ERA) will take the mound for the Cubs. Hammel had a 22-inning scoreless streak blown up in his last outing when he gave up 10 runs to the Rockies in just 3 1/3 innings. In Urias’ last outing he threw six shutout innings against the Reds.

Game 128, 2016

Cubs at Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, ABC7

Bud Norris (6-10, 4.69 ERA) goes for the Dodgers against Mike Montgomery (4-5, 2.69 ERA) of the Cubs. Norris’s last start was only 3 2/3 innings when he gave up six runs on seven hits and four walks. Montgomery made his first start for the Cubs his last time out; he went 4 1/3 innings and gave up one run on 60 pitches. He came over from the Mariners at the trade deadline.

Game 127, 2016

Giants at Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, CS-BA

The Dodgers send rookie RHP Ross Stripling (3-4, 4.04 ERA) out to face the Giants for the first time since his MLB debut when he pitched 7 1/3 innings of no-hit ball on April 8 of this year.

Moore (7-10, 4.18 ERA) was acquired by the Giants at the trade deadline last month. He’s made four starts, walked 22, struck out 17 and posted a 4.70 ERA in 23 innings for them since then.

A-Gon is on a 17-game hitting streak. Utley has a sore foot and may be replaced by Kendrick at 2B. Howie is 6-14 with a double against Moore over his career.

Game 126, 2016

Giants at Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: ESPN, SPNLA, CSBA

Rich Hill is scheduled to make his first start for the Dodgers since his acquisition at the trade deadline three weeks ago. He’s had blister troubles, and if you wonder how those are treated in the big leagues, read on. Mike Petriello has some excellent analysis of Hill’s “stuff.”

Hill is 9-3 with a 2.25 ERA, all with Oakland before the trade. His opponent will be Johnny Cueto, who’s 14-3 with a 2.90 ERA.

Winning Game One of this series means even if the Giants come back and win the next two games the Dodgers are still in first place, albeit tied. I like that better than tied now after a loss.

Happy news from and for the Segedin family.

Game 125, 2016

Giants at Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, CSBA

The most-anticipated series of the season until the next one between these two teams begins tonight. It starts with the Giants’ Madison Bumgarner (12-7, 2.25 ERA) and his home-run bat facing the Dodgers’ Kenta Maeda (12-7, 3.29 ERA), whose 5-43 (.136) average and .346 OPS aren’t going to scare anyone. Bumgarner is 0-1 with a 4.09 ERA in two starts vs. the Dodgers this season, while Maeda is 1-0 with a .047 ERA in one start against the Giants, giving up one earned run over seven innings back in April.

Personnel news of a sort: Rob Segedin had to be places in a hurry after getting off the plane from Cincinnati:

Presumably there’s a replacement for Segedin waiting in the wings if his wife goes into labor mid-game.
