  2. Ooph. I see that we had another clunker. This offense is not showing up, and the pitching isn’t much better.

  3. In the four games since we beat the Rangers, 15-2, we've accumulated nine runs.

  4. Not going to lie – this Dodger team is confusing to me right now. I can’t figure them out from one night to the next, one series to the next.

    • Exactly! Just came back from dinner, still in Colorado. Wondered which team would
be playing – the good one or the terrible one.

    • Inconsistent, erratic, mysterious, confounding, unreliable and several more adjectives.

  5. I think I was rooting for Miggy to NOT get a hit there. Why ruin your perfect 19-0 W-L record when you get a hit?

  6. Today is the third game out of the last 4 where the Dodgers have given up either a 3 run or a 4 run home run.

      • Wow. He walked three straight and Doc didn’t do what he needed to do. Sorry, friends, but I have never been a devoted fan of how Doc manages pitchers. We’re fortunate that the NL West is weak. Our postseason foes won’t be, if we get there.

        • This one is on Doc. Any manager with half a brain would have taken Trienen out after the 3rd walk.

  7. Puds and Gnats both lost today. House money. Cheating Astros got the crap beat out of them. I hope this is the start of a steep decline for the cheaters.

  8. It takes two to agree on close strikes. Maybe protect the plate on the very close ones?

  9. From Dodgers.com:
RHP Bobby Miller (right shoulder inflammation). Expected return: Next week in Colorado. Miller made his final rehab start with Triple-A Oklahoma City on June 13, allowing five runs on six hits over 4 2/3 innings. While the results weren’t good for Miller, the Dodgers will insert him back into the rotation for the upcoming series against the Rockies at Coors Field. With Miller back in the rotation, the Dodgers will, at least temporarily, go with a six-man rotation. (Last updated: June 14)

  10. I umpired a high school all-star game in Monterey last night from behind the plate. One of the starting pitchers was throwing harder than in any of the hundreds of games I have called over 22 seasons. Starting at the high school level, including freshmen ball, the mound is the same 60 feet, 6 inches, as it is in pro baseball. I am astonished at the skill it takes to hit the ball and even more astonished by what it must have been like to face Sandy Koufax, Juan Marichal, Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson, and on and on. Is there anything more difficult to do in sports?

  11. Bumsrap: Thanks for your reference to Gil Stratton last night. He used to be part of the L.A. Rams' TV broadcasts when I was growing up in L.A. But he was also a college hockey goalie, an actor of some renown, a minor league umpire and a sportscaster. His favorite phrase: "time to call 'em as I see 'em,." He had the great role of Cookie in Stalag 17, starring William Holden, and one of my favorite films. Holden won the Best Actor Oscar in 1954 for that film. Stratton and I share cities of birth: Brooklyn. Stratton's Wikipedia entry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gil_Stratton

    • I miss the local LA news and sports broadcasts from my youth. I looked him up before I asked the question and was surprised at the extent of his background. I didn't remember Jerry Dunphy's name as well as Stratton's but I do remember his opening line: “From the desert to the sea to all of Southern California,”

  12. Ohio Dodger: The Guess Who's greatest hits CD arrived and I have listened to it. I had forgotten how many great hits they had. Burton Cummings had/has a tremendous voice. I didn't realize that Randy Bachman (later part of Bachman-Turner-Overdrive) was a guitarist for Guest Who.
Winnipeg Dave: The Guess Who formed in Winnipeg in 1965, but you may have known that already.

    • Glad you enjoyed it Scoop. I had their Greatest Hits on Cassette back in the 80's. I have it on CD now. Check out Gord's Gold. Greatest hits of Gordon Lightfoot.

    • Yup. I’m familiar with the Guess Who. Winnipeg actually punches above their (per capita) weight class when it comes to music: Neil Young, BTO (Bachman Turner Overdrive), Crash Test Dummies, The Wailin’ Jennys, The Weakerthans, The Watchman, etc.
