Dodgers at Rangers, 5:05 PM PDT, TV: Bally Sports Southwest, SPNLA
RHP Tony Gonsolin (5-3, 3.72 ERA) takes the mound at Globe Life Field. He’ll face old friend LHP Andrew Heaney (6-6, 4.43 ERA), who elected free agency after one season with the Dodgers.
- 1930 Harvey Henrick’s ninth-inning three-run round-tripper off the bench gives the Dodgers a dramatic 9-8 come-from-behind victory over the Redbirds at Ebbets Field in the first game of a twin bill. Redbirds George Puccinelli and Jim Bottomley and Brooklyn’s Hal Lee also homer appearing as pinch-hitters in the game.
- 1956 In a 13-6 defeat to the Cubs, Dodgers’ shortstop Pee Wee Reese becomes one of five active players to collect 2000 hits, and teammate Junior Gilliam sets a major league record by handling 12 assists at second base.
- 1963 The usually mild-mannered Dodger manager Walter Alston is thrown out of both games of a doubleheader when the Braves sweep a twin bill from Los Angeles for the first and only time in Milwaukee, 7-2 and 13-7. To make matters worse, the manager has beer thrown in his face by a hometown fan as he leaves the second game. (My thanks to Lee for sharing this entry. He attended the game at County Stadium as a ten year-old. -LP)
- 2003 At Dodger Stadium, Vladimir Guerrero hit his 226th career home run, breaking Andre Dawson’s club record. The Expos’ right fielder hits his milestone round-tripper off Odalis Perez, a 454-foot blast over the left field wall.

Let it roll baby roll. All night long.

Max dinger here would be the icing (oops, got ahead of myself).
Not used to him batting sixth.
Muncy is a mess. Needs to sit a few games.
Low BA, but still high OBP and OPS.
Not producing runs.
Produced the go-ahead run tonight.
Not producing runs consistently.
Dinger and 2 rbis in previous game, but of course you are right he is not producing at the level we and he are accustomed to. Suppose he could sit for a couple of game, but I would miss him in the lineup.
I just think a couple of games off might be good for him. And move him down to 6th or 7th in the order.
Snakes have also lost, so Dodgers have golden opportunity to pick up a game on both them and the Gnats.
Need a Dilly Bar.
Bochy brings in lefty, so no Peralta. Smart on his part.
Thought he might go Peralta here.
Seemed wrong to hit for Deluca after he just saved the Dodgers collective Dodger rear
Too many Dodgers in that sentence if there is such a thing
Well, good he didn’t do it before the catches, but we need runs.
I’m always happy to see Outman hit so bitter sweet
Nats swat Gnats 5-3 in DC.
These Texas unis are truly ugly.

Yay!!
Woo-HOO!!!!
Your futuring has been missed.
One more, please. I have jet lag.
Everyone in our lineup has at least one hit tonight.
I love our gumption this year.
Great game not to miss!
MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK!!!!!
WOW!!
Yep. That happened.
Mookie wasn’t going to be denied his assist this inning.
Routine 9-2-6.
Wow!
Oops.
Now, there’s a TOOTBLAN!
I’d settle for a sac fly here.
Are you disappointed?
C’mon Fergie. Geez!!
Should have had a K there. But he’s pitching all over the place.
C’mon Fergie. And c’mon UMP!
Overturned, but still dumb.
Pretty dumb baserunning by Seager.
Not a good decision given score.
Seager challenges Mook.
Dino’s windmilling like mad!
Jimmy Reed! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkqGgCCWjus
Willie delivers!
Hope we get Good Graterol.
Easy inning, in the end.
You got it. Welcome back RBI.
This feels like an October play-off game!
Max scoots down the line.
Muncy wheels
An underrated aspect of his game.
Great to have been there to see the grand salami by CT3 in Baltimore.
Nada here though.
Swung at ball four.
Dodger All Stars at every base
Bad baserunning by Mookie.
A friendly play
Outman now has had two good months and two bad months for 2023.
Come on, Vesia!
Gift pitch to Seager for sure.
Jeez Corey.
Slider didn’t slide.
Always hurts more when a team gets a quick run after the other team just loaded the bases and couldn’t score.
Yonny really wanted a hit there. It was fun watching him give it his all.
Taylor wheels.
Back to back web gems. See ya on ESPN Jonny.
Maybe we don’t need to make a trade for a righty hitting outfielder.
If only bats were made from leather
So, has Deluca clinched the Gold Glove?
Jonny ditto!
Johnny B. Goode Deluca
Probably a triple if Deluca doesn’t catch it.
DeLuca leather! Crowd appreciates it.
It sounds as if there are plenty of Dodgers fans in Dalllas.
FREDDIE!!!!
CS! Lucky…Gonso wasn’t paying any attention at the runner.
No eyes, no ears. Gameday said that was the second mound visit of the inning, and yet he is still in there.
GameDay is confused.
GameDay is a total mess.
Oh well. Down by one.
Oh well. Tie game.
Cat Man don’t.
Funny.
We need a K and a DP, STAT.
Cincy now leading Snakes 9-3 in the fifth. AZ has two fine starters, but after that they’re weak.
Deluca’s got wheels.
Gnats trailing Nats 5-3 after 6-1/2. Snakes trail Rojos, also 5-3, in bottom of sixth.
Martinez puts us ahead!
Freddie does it again! Two RBI double!!!
Was hoping Mookie would get that one out of the stadium.
Seager is hitting 123 points higher than Rojas, but Trea Turner is hitting only 25 points higher than Rojas.
Trea hits for more power and has greater speed, but Rojas is superior defensively (to both of them).
Weird home run, though.
Ooph. CatMan needs to settle down.
Doesn’t Seager know he doesn’t walk?
Ok Gato, relieve us if just a little bit of our starter concerns.
Thanks, Semien!
Welp
Greetings, all! We landed last night, and I am excited to see a game today! Looks like we have more then held our own so far on this road trip. Hopefully that continues. (I have two tix for a home game on July 24th.) I’m jet-lagged but happy – had a wonderful time in Italy and glad to be home as well. Go Blue!
When I saw the Instagram shot in Venice, I couldn’t help but think of Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie.
One of my favorite films…
Apparently you didn’t try to track any red-cloaked dwarf.
Unforgettable moment when that red-cloaked figure turns…
Welcome home!
Thank you!
Meanwhile, in tribute to the late great Antonio Benedetto, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_yAWgkDj4U
Tribute?
He died today at home in NYC. He was 96.
Greatest version ever.
Even better than Bennett’s, eh?
It’s a tribute.
Doesn’t strike me as a tribute. Sorry.
My Tuesday excursion to watch a game at the O’s AA team Bowie Baysox was a nice change of pace. Crowd of a little more than 1,000 (dog night, so a bunch of those as well). Probably more than usual for a weekday night game as they were playing the National AA team Harrisburg Senators. Nat’s fans saw a couple of the prospects they got for Soto from the Padres. As well, there was a first baseman playing for the Senators, who they received from the Dodgers in the Max/Trea trade. Baysox featured the overall No 1 pick in 2022, Jackson Holliday, son of Matt.
I once saw Dodgers prospect Willie Davis play in Tacoma, for the Spokane Indians, with future Dodger Manny Mota on the Tacoma Giants (gnot the Gnats).
Malbec would’ve liked to be there. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/55034256d858b4c8c69570cc68e01fed62bd5bfe94d94c4975280e9d094c90e8.jpg
