Braves at Dodgers, 7:10 PM PDT, TV: Bally Sports SE, MLBN (out-of-market only), SPNLA
The Braves’ LHP Max Fried (5-1, 2.85 ERA) takes on the Dodgers’ LHP Julio Urías (11-7, 4.41 ERA) in Game Two of a four-game series at Dodger Stadium. Friod spent three months on the IL with a forearm strain, only being activated on August 4.
The Dodgers added RHP Emmet Sheehan and IF Kolten Wong to the active roster. In order to make room on the 40-man roster the Dodgers outrighted IF Yonny Hernández.

- 1890 On Labor Day at Brooklyn’s Washington Park, the Bridegrooms, later to be known as the Dodgers, win all three games against Pittsburgh in the first tripleheader ever played. The home team sweeps the visiting Alleghenys, who will be renamed the Pirates next season, 10-9, 3-2, and 8-4.
- 1953 The Cardinals tie a major league mark, hitting five homers in a 12-5 loss to Brooklyn at Ebbets Field. The solo shots hit by Stan Musial, Harry Elliot, Rip Repulski, and Steve Bilko (2), all off starter Preacher Roe, aren’t enough to offset the Dodgers’ 17-hit attack, which includes six doubles but no round-trippers.
- 1969 At Dodger Stadium, Willie Davis ties the franchise record by hitting in 29 consecutive games with his second-inning single in LA’s 10-6 victory over New York. The mark was established by Zack Wheat in 1916.

NPUT
Ate amanha (my wife and daughter are in Brazil at the moment).
A few more dubious calls but he is fooling our batters big time.
This is gettin embarrassing.
In their mild card desperation, Gnats trail Pads 6-1 after three.
Former Rangers, Phillies, and Indians (now Guardians) manager Pat Corrales died Sunday at age 82. I hadn’t realized it, but he had worked for the Dodgers since 2011.
R.I.P., Mr Corrales.
First Mexican-American manager in MLB.
We are missing Martinez. Rosario batting cleanup doesn’t thrill me, but we don’t have many options….Despite the loss, that was an entertaining game last night. These Dodgers never give up. It was good that the Braves had to use their closer, Iglesias, and another key leverage reliever, Minter, in a game that they had led 7-1. As for Mookie, has anyone ever had a better month in Dodgers’ history?…I expect that Urias will be on his game tonight.
I am thrilled that AF was able to get Rosario. He is not here to replace JD, but is great that he can fill in against a lefty with JD down. As a Dodger he has actually has OPS+122 against lefties compared to JD at 107.
Martinez has been a big offensive force in the Dodger lineup and yet they keep scoring at the same pace without him, or so it would seem to me.
I don’t quite see why Kolten Wong pinch-hit for Freddie Freeman, but it surely worked. Welcome, Hawai’i guy!
Tomorrow.
Need Heyward and Peralta to do damage.
Let’s go JayHey.
Jason Heyward up if Outman reaches.
Jason Heyward up if Outman reaches.
Let’s go Sir James.
Kiké did his darndest.
PH MAN!!!
Oh man!
Dang. Just missed.
Oh man – just foul.
Watch the Dodgers Padres this game and lose by 1 run again.
Okay Dodgers. Let’s do this in a crazy way, okay?
Don’t love Kiké at first base.
But didn’t need a first baseman so it worked out ok.
How many batters til Wong bats again in the ninth? Lol
Well, 3 behind is better than 6 behind.
Maybe CT3 can golf one off Tonkin…
Now you’re Tonkin- ur – talking.
Oh wow – just got this. Nicely played.
Now the crowd is in it!
Only one or two hits away from this getting really exciting.
Maybe Joe was right and I wrong about the “heart of the order”.
Welcome Wong!
Maybe he will be the Manny of 2023!
Wong!!!!!
When a Wong makes a wight!
Yay!
Gnats lose to Pads, fall into a mild card tie with Snakes. They also lose half a game to the Reds.
Doc gave up.
UMP!!!
And no Mookie.
And Peralta gets rung up on one a foot outside.
By my coins that’s the fourth bad call against us.
We’ll take what we can get!
Not-Fried better than Fried, one would hope.
7 runs better would be nice.
There’s 3 so far.
Okay. That happened at least.
Can somebody make it stop?
Set up to see an unassisted TP. That would be exciting.
A DP! Take it.
Maybe someone warming up now…
Fried may pitch the 8th. No one warming up yet.
Get it all out of your system tonight.
But but but… it’s my second to last game!
Greater good?
Also – when’s your last one?
Slow torture tonight.
Maybe all the Braves should eat a load of jumbo jacks tomorrow since Fried k’d 10.
Pfft. Braves can’t make that play? They must not be very good.
Rally!!!!!
Trying to imagine this Dodger line up if it had this years versions of Bellinger and Seager.
It’s one of those kinds of games
If the Dodgers hadn’t given up all those runs earlier, they would be right there with the Braves.
As a golf buddy often reminds me–if my aunt had balls she would be my uncle.
I think I need a dawg, god help me.
Bronski agrees. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/9665eb45472b0303370f5f17fed79751d7c801bc57c8a9734fea855abe1a9948.jpg
Here we go…
Nope.
And… he bunts on for you know who…
Nice!
Sliding into first is dumb, unless you’re avoiding a tag.
In sum… https://twitter.com/billplunkettocr/status/1697815452339339269?s=20
Maybe he is injured. Gonsolin was when he pitched like that.
I was wondering the same.
No bueno.
Makes it easy to calculate hie era for those two games
Ha!
Don’t hit it at em Dodgers
Little bit louder, please.
Okay but it’s not like the crowd is very loud and excited.
Hitting em hard but not hard enough.
Wow. That was a nice catch actually.
Grrr.
Almost got a hit, CT3.
I don’t care much for the Barves, though I respect most of them, but Ozuna is truly loathsome.
Is loathsome your favourite word?
What else can you call this? https://www.wsbtv.com/news/local/north-fulton-county/body-camera-footage-braves-outfielder-marcell-ozunas-domestic-violence-arrest-released/UJ6CUYFHZ5DTNNLAZNX7PWU6VQ/
But see the issue is you also call Brandon Crawford or a bunch of other players loathsome as well. And I’m thinking they haven’t all been connected with DV or other criminal issues.
OK, let’s just call Greasylocks repellent.
Thanks.
DP, please!
Good grief.
This series so far doesn’t make me feel over-confident about the Dodgers end results in the playoffs…
Wait til we get to play them in Atlanta, then we’ll show em.
Who wants to be over-confident?
Would it help if I dropped the word “over”? Lol
This is game is not,, so far, like last night’s game.
The problem with Julio is that he lets things get to him.
Wow
Muncy! What was that?
An error or at very least a fumble.
Geeze Louise.
Good throw would have made it very close at 2nd base there.
The guy has a cloud of magic dust around him.
My wife has said that about me but she usually isn’t impressed when she says it.
Dodgers haven’t lost 2 games in a row since July 28th. Let’s not change that tonight.
Ok, though don’t we have to lose at some point, so that we don’t get complacent going forward to the playoffs? (Am I doing this right?)
Better than the Dodgers are
Acuña, again?
A questionable called strike there, Blue.
When will we get JD back?
About a week or so, I think.
Outman trying for that HR = miles and miles and miles of ❤️.
Agreed!
He needed to climb over the fence to get to it but he did get air
I’m souring on the idea of re-signing Julito.
Maybe he is trying to save the Dodgers some money on their offer?
It would make for a very interesting arb case. (Not that arb is in play in this case.)
Came pretty close to being pitcher of the month for August, so tough to give up on him.
Very good Aug. And I would be fine if he did the alternate thing if it means bad Sept and good Oct.
He’s gonna have to show a lot more in September than he has in these recent starts.
Goes without saying. Threw pretty well in his last start and throughout August.
The Sawx bombed him in his previous start.
Gave up a couple of solo dingers through five innings, but was pretty sharp. Fly ball out anywhere other than Fenway was a three run homer and an otherwise harmless ground ball scored another accounted for four runs in the sixth. Nothing like tonight, where he stunk.
Is Lance Lynn Julio’s hero or mentor or something?
They are ridiculous.
So RBI what section are you sitting in tonight? 7RS?
2RS, G 1
Very nice! Is the nicest husband in the world there with you?
Just moi tonight.
Yeah. A base hit.
Fried should just be a Dodger if he likes them so much. Lol
Under Barves control through 2024.
Best pitch of the night so far by Uriás to get the k there.
Im a bit surprised by the call ups being Sheehan and Wong. Thought for sure Vargas would be the position player.
Wong, 32 year old veteran and two time gold glover was OPSing over 1.000 in the 5 games with the Dodgers minor league teams, so there is that.
In the majors this season, he’s been awful.
OKC has much of September to still play. Guess they think better for his development to keep playing rather than sitting on the bench in the Bigs. Can always come up later.
Hakuna matatas the Dodgers again
Who gets married the day of a game? That news about RAJ surprised me yesterday.
Someone who is wanting the good juju to carry into his romantic life.
The day I got married, players were on strike.
1972?
1981
He said he likes the LA area and wanted to get married there. In the mountains so maybe Lake Arrowhead?
Joe called the hitters coming up this inning for the Dodgers “the heart of the order”. Despite this being the traditional definition, it doesn’t work for this team since the 1 and 2 hitters are the definite heart of the order.
He did that yesterday as well and I had the same thought It’s the middle of the order but definitely not the heart.
So true.
Not a strike, but an out.
Great presence of mind.
Yeah, despite his frustration with himself, which I gather Rosario was trying to exploit.
Maybe that will serve as a no harm wake up call.
Not sure he needs that. He knows how he is pitching. Don’t know if his visible frustration is helpful or not. Did get him out of the jam though.
Okay then I will say I am glad he just enjoyed a cup of coffee and is now settled down.
Did seem more awake that inning, after the dinger!
HA!!!
Julito is not sharp.
And we need him to be. What to do?
Maybe Atlanta will help with that question.
CS might help!
Oh ‘naud
They have quite the line up.
rats
Very bad future person.
Beautiful night. Big crowd.
Nice toss by Will.

Thanks again for the cool spice of life posts WBBsAs
Howard University Hospital
Joe saying Freddie chasing his own 30 60 club. Home runs and doubles
After the inauspicious walk to Acuña, Julito settles down.
August is to be renamed Mookie. For the month, Betts led the MLB in AVG, HR, XBH, OPS, Runs and Total Bases.
Very impressive.
Yep
On my way to the stadium. Go Dodgers!
