Dodgers at Orioles, 4:05 PM PDT, TV: MASN, SPNLA, TBS (out-or-market only)
RHP Michael Grove (1-2, 6.89 ERA) goes for the Dodgers and RHP Tyler Wells (7-4, 3.18 ERA) goes for the Orioles.
- 1939 The Red Sox send 21 year-old farmhand Pee Wee Reese to the Dodgers for $35,000 and a player to be named later (Red Evans), along with three minor leaguers due to a less-than-enthusiastic scouting report filed by Joe Cronin, the team’s current player-manager, who deliberately downplayed the prospect’s talent to keep his own job in the Boston infield. The Louisville Colonels regular shortstop, a future Hall of Famer, will become a crowd favorite, helping Brooklyn to win seven pennants during his 16 seasons with the team.
- 1949 Jackie Robinson testifies in front of the House Committee on Un-American Activities, reading a carefully worded statement put together with the help of Dodger GM Branch Rickey. The Brooklyn second baseman’s statement makes it clear he disagrees with singer and actor Paul Robeson’s belief that American Negroes would refuse to fight in any war against Russia due to the country’s racial discrimination toward blacks.

Austin Riley just hit third homer of game, and Crackers lead Snakes 13-12 in the sixth. He has seven RBI.
Read somewhere that the Dodgers rookie starters have a combined ERA of over 6.00, but that the team has won like 16 of the 25 starts. Asked about that, one of the hitters said, sarcastically?, that they keep them in the games.
This makes me want to root for the young man, Nationals’ #2 draft pick or no.

Nice winning first two series of the trip
Not an easy roadie.
Crackers blew it to the Snakes, but Gnats gnow losing to Reds.
From Inside the Dodgers:
Still coulda/shoulda had some more runs. Oh well, I guess we’re in pretty good shape.
Relentless.
Go, Maury!
In Atlanta, Snakes have overtaken the Crackers 12-11 in the sixth.
Outman on base four times tonight.
I like the Oregon State guy–ADLEY RUTSCHMAN.
He’s already a star, at a key position.
Grove tried but couldn’t get 6 innings.
Still, he did well against a tough lineup.
A couple of long at bats contributed to him not going 6.
Nice to have a four-run lead, but all those wasted opportunities — 11 LOB — could well haunt us.
Now THAT was a wasted opportunity.
Indeed it was.
Quite the uppercut swing Taylor was using to try and make contact.
It worked yesterday.
I don’t think it was the same swing yesterday
Every pitch yesterday was up and away.
That’s why I said I don’t think he used the same swing yesterday.
Terrible AB by JD.
Outman and Smith having good games.
Grove outlasting their ace.
He’s done well.
Snakes and Barves in a slugfest – 9-8 Atlanta through four.

Thanks for sharing that. Quite interesting.
The new dimensions are absurd.
It’s very weird seeing it. Changing the configuration to that makes no sense.
Really deep LF line is weird – Forbes Field?
Forbes only weird later. Build during the dead ball era, when they would rope off part of the outfield so that fans could sit there. Camden was intentionally made weird.
Got out of it cheaply.
Little damage
Minimal.
Turned my attention away for a sec…and what do you know.
There’s a start!
Grove on pace for a 54-pitch CGSO.
First time experiencing a local blackout as I normally attend the games when the Dodgers visit Baltimore and DC.
And now experiencing the lag between radio and Gameday.
One year I went to 39 Tacoma Giants (gnot Gnats) home games. Manny Mota was my favorite.
Thanks, Manfred!
No last minute trip up north tonight. Tomorrow night actually attending a farm game. Bowie Baysox (O’s) versus Harrisburg Senators (Nats).
In Bowie, I imagine. Certainly that’s closer than Harrisburg.
Harrisburg probably 2 hours away driving up through Gettysburg. My buddy says that the stadium is on an island in the Susquehanna right by downtown.
OKC farmhand Devin Mann got a weird home run the other night. Ball was “caught” but outfielder hit wall, ball bounced out of glove and over the fence. Ergo, home run.
Not so much fun as this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QixQMUu4CKI
The recent one was different, rules-wise. Read the story.
