Astros at Dodgers, 7:10 PM PDT, TV: ATT SportsNet-SW, MLBN (out-of-market only), SPNLA
28-year-old Astros’ rookie RHP J.P. France (2-2, 3.42 ERA) makes the eighth start of his big league career; he’ll face the Dodgers’ 23-year-old rookie RHP Emmet Sheehan (0-0, 0.00 ERA) who’s making his second major league start.
- 1930 The Dodgers get twelve consecutive hits in a 19-6 win over the Pirates at Forbes Field. Two of the dozen hits in the eight-run sixth inning include a pair of homers hit by Brooklyn outfielder Babe Herman.
- 1986 The Braves strand 18 runners on base, establishing a National League record. Enough Atlanta players do score to give the team a 6-5 victory over L.A. at Dodger Stadium.
Other notable events in baseball on this date include Ernie Shore’s near-perfect game in 1917, when he relieved Babe Ruth (ejected for arguing balls and strikes and possibly punching the umpire) and retired 26 consecutive batters.
Lineups when available.
Late night in LA.

NPUT
YES!!! DP!!!
Gnats whipping the D’Backs 8 to 4 in the 6th.
Got him! Nice strike at the knees.
Outman has gradually gone from swing and miss, to fouling a few pitches, to putting the ball in play, and lately getting base hits. Not back to the power days of April but he is working his way back.
Really need Vargas to get it going. He is in a horrible slump.
Except for the dinger the other night.
That is his only hit in the last 7 games. But, it was a big one.
I hope it is a slump. Small sample size at this level.
Yeehaw!
Brewster with just seven pitches.
Sheehan gets a win
Very easy inning for Brewster!
Rookie vacuum cleaners getting 2 outs
Woo-HOO!!!
For the first time in L.A. – I can say
Dodgers win!!!
AH-OOOOOOOOOO!! Win for the Dodgers.
Uno mas, please!
So far so good, Brewster.
Two away.
Just don’t walk anyone.
Outman gets jobbed on strike 2.
He did. Would he have swung at strike 3 if he didn’t have 2 strikes? Maybe not.
Vargas needs a reset. A couple of days on the bench or a trip to OKC.
Graterol warming up…..
I don’t understand that. Grove can go 3 innings.
Three innings saves are usually associated with large leads. Having a rook go a third inning with a one run lead with more proven arms available would be hard to justify.
Especially with heart of the order coming up.
Surprised it’ll be Brewster rather than Phillips.
Useful..
Doctor DP!
DP!!!
Grove walks the Trashtros’ worst hitter.
But then gets the DP!
I love it when a plan comes together
Still trying to wrap my head around the idea that the ‘Stros are not in the NL.
I enjoy watching and rooting for the young guys. Grove and Sheehan on the mound and Busch, Vargas, and Outman on the field.
I could go for a Dilly pop right now.
Anybody here know why Davey Lopes was not at the ceremony tonight?
More runs please.
Three straights hits for Outman!
Nice James 3-3.
Grove for the 7th
There we go! Nice pitching Sheehan.
86 pitches. Why not 100? So far he has allowed zero runs in 11 of the 12 innings he has pitched.
Indeed.
I noticed that Outman’s slide on his stolen base had his lead foot above the bag and first made contact with the bag with his back foot. That’s like adding 1.5 feet to the basepath.
And I thought that Sheehan would never allow a run.
Or a hit
Bad decision to send Rojas.
Yep.
Yep, with Mook coming up (FD: didn’t see the play)
Counter-factual history – Mookie’s fly ball would’ve scored him easily.
Busch wants to stick around.
.400 wrisp
Useful.
Mookie could have caught that.
Emmet was considered the runt of the litter in Tulsa, cuz he was the only starter not to regularly hit 100 mph.
I read that Tulsa has an incredible group of starting pitchers.
Sheehan looks like Johnny Winter.
Two pitches up in the zone.
Rising up and out of the zone is his MO.
Oops
And now an HR! Send him out!
Sheehan surrenders a hit. DFA!
Had to happen, I guess.
Freddie is pressing a little.
Snakes have taken a 1-0 lead over Dehydrochlormethyltestosterone Boy at Software Stadium.
See the three of us below!

Excellent!
I thought that sign read “PAYTHEWRITERS” these days. I guess it was just a meme. 😉
Very cool.
Late to the party. Mookie doing what Mookie does.
DP!!!
Sitting in my living room with Winnipeg Dave and his son Bereket watching the game. Fun!!!
So fun! Lol
Wow, how great!
We are going to a game tomorrow with Scooplew joining us! Where are you, Bob?
That would be a treat!
Some of my favorite people in the world that I have never met!
Back at you with that, Bob. One day we will try to get as many of us as possible together!
DC for the summer after coming up from spending the winter in Puerto Escondido. Waiting for my Dodgers to arrive here in September before heading off to Lago di Como.
This game is off to an encouraging start.
With the Snakes and Gnats facing off at Software Stadium, tonight’s results are destined to be mixed.
