Dodgers at Braves, 5:07 PM PDT, TV: TBS
Max Scherzer reports his arm is still tired, so the Dodgers’ RHP Walker Buehler (postseason 0-1, 3.77 ERA) has stepped up to volunteer to start this elimination game. He’ll be on short rest: he started Game Three on Oct. 19. He’ll face the Braves’ RHP Ian Anderson (postseason 1-0, 2.25 ERA). Anderson has had his full complement of rest days: he last pitched in Game Two on Oct 17.
Today in baseball history Branch Rickey announced the signing of Jackie Robinson and Johnny Wright in 1947, Joe Carter hit a walk-off home run in Game Six of the 1993 World Series to give Toronto its second consecutive title and the Giants won their 21st pennant as Juan Uribe homered in the 8th inning of Game Six of the NLCS in 2010.

NPUT
Dave Roberts won’t get to manage the ASG at home.
As Ron Darling says,”Buehler’s line may not look so good in the morning but serious respect with a capital R.” I agree. He gave it his all.
Went to the well one too many times with the cutter to Rosario.
Rosario just too locked in. Can’t walk the number 8 hitter with two outs.
I wish one of the many foul balls could have been hit better, better enough to have been a popup.
Followed by a broken bat double.
Should have already been out of the inning. He had two strikes and two outs.
Adrianza’s an ex-Gnat (for whom he was terrible).
Swung at ball four (easy for me to say).
Swing mode, big swing mode.
Our team could look very different next year. Some tough choices/decisions for AF.
Ferris hung one there, but got away with it (so far).
And there.
FWIW, Ferris had a full week off before his previous start.
Also, on this date in history. https://twitter.com/jay_jaffe/status/1452025206101446660?s=20
Threw 145 pitches during the past 10 days.
So, a complete game for Fernando.
It’s been nice to drop in from time to time and follow from afar
Houston-Atlanta doesn’t do anything for me. I will wait until pitchers and catchers report to rejoin the baseball life. I wonder which free agents we will sign.
Dusty the only attraction for me, but probably not enough to actually watch a game.
Dusty lost with a cheating franchise in 2002. He doesn’t deserve to win, but neither do the racist Barves.
That Travis Tritt move was so tin-eared!
Up until then I might have (unenthusiastically) followed the Barves in the Series. Now, no way.
Which ones might we LOSE, more importantly.
Let’s aim for an in-person game in 2022. What say you?
I will do my best.
I would like that a great deal. I have had the pleasure of meeting RBI, WBB and Link in person.
Maybe we could convince Jon (and Bob T!) to meet with us as well. That would sweeten the pot even more!
Yes! Even better!
I’ve not yet met RBI, but would love to.
Best to all of you. Disappointing conclusion, but great observations on this site month after month. And to Link: a huge thank you and a clean bill of health.
And we must be getting closer and closer to watching a baseball game together…
I would get great pleasure out of that. In Milwaukee we wouldn’t have to worry about the weather.
Have a good off season fellow Elysians. I will be watching the World Series with less enthusiasm and enjoy my time away from the TV set now that the Dodgers will be off for a few months.
Not as upset as I thought I would be…
Strangely me either. Perhaps winning the WS last year really did mean something!
Kenley had a great finish. Belli redeemed himself in the post season. The wild card walkoff. Beating the Giants in five. CT3’s epic 3 HR finish at Dodger Stadium. Lots to be proud about.
Beating the Giants was huge for sure!
AJ getting the playoff monkey off his back.
That was wonderful!
Felt really good about Belli having a redeeming playoffs.
Aw shucks, folks.
Oh well, wait till next year!
Overall, a darn good year. But still very disappointing. AFs got alot of work to do and some hard decisions this off season.
The World Series is always hard to watch when you don’t care about either team.
Thank god for college football. Go Bucks.
I’m with you there brother!
Handegg is almost as boring as soccer.
Shall we play the Red Sox for the bronze medal?
Ha!
We had a good run, despite getting decimated.
Two undeserving franchises advance to the Series, and I’ll not watch a single pitch. See y’all later.
See you soon WBB!
Next year.
One out left.
Link. Thank you!! Thank. You.
We all know it has been a very challenging year for you personally and yet you have continued to be our gracious host. We care about you and care for you!
As for me, I’ll try and review the 12 rules of the road and live by them a little more closely next year.
Go Dodgers.
Three cheers for Link!!!
And a big Aloha.
My brother and sister have been teasing me unmercifully for saying “dang.” I said it was because of my blog and the rule one.
Well put Dave!
Well said. Thanks Link. Looking forward to some hot stove conversation.
Only two down and have 3 outs to score 2. Might as well score 3.
Might as well score six.
May depend on Beaty and Barnes. (Or maybe they give Lux a shot?)
Tossing cold water on my already strained optimism
Rally Time.
Great finish Kenley!
Hats off to Kenley (here and this year generally)
Kenley does his job, but will he have work after this?
I want Kenley back!
Me, too!!!
I meant for the ninth!
Stranded the runner!!!!
K’s his countryman
Ha. Got him out.
Better for Kenley to have a man on third?
In his mind
Hate to see Kenley give up a double.
Not as much as he hates having a guy on second.
Oh right! I forgot all about that!
Weakly hit ball in the right (wrong) place.
Man I wanted to nail him at second.
At moments like this, I always think of the “ending” of Toy Story 3, where all the toys are in the incinerator holding hands…
Or the ship’s band on the Titanic.
One ended better than the other.
We all go down together
Makes it all bearable.
Company gone. Now I can spend the last moments here.
With my Dodger family!
So glad you are here my friend.
Taking out the Gnats helps ease the disappointment some.
To many of our key guys not getting it done.
Taylor, Belli and AJ are all we got.
Need them to do it again in the ninth.
Betts, Seager and Turner are 0-11 between them.
Not just tonight.
No more Treinen for the 8th.
All Kenley I guess at least to face the top of the order.
That was an epic pitching relief performance by Matzek, gotta say.
Didn’t expect much from Tio or Souza.
I thought perhaps a sac fly from Pujols.
I don’t believe it. What a wasted opportunity.
Boy that was our chance with Mookie up
Only have two more innings, too. This is getting more difficult by the innng.
Easier to get 3 than 4, if we can hold them
Blew three right past Mookie.
And Pujols. And Souza Jr.
Quite a show.
Needed some contact. A slow roller would have been just fine.
Something. Anything.
Have to settle for making Braves fans take a walk.
Wow. Matzek magic.
With all the injuries, the bench is depleted.
Everywhere is depleted.
Ok Mookie
What a moment for Souza.
Come on Souza, make up for your throw
Nooo! Should have let it go by!
Your futuring disappoints, but it might’ve been called a strike.
Looked pretty low.
Vamos, ¡Tîo!
D’Arnaud just saved a run right there.
Come on bottom feeders!
…and Tio Albert up, yes?
Hit the ball rookie
He lives for this.
RBI!!! Man on second man on third! No outs!
AJ!
Baserunners again
No outs
Got any video this morning?
Just gameday, peeking in on a busy Sunday afternoon
Tying run at the plate.
Tying run on second!
It was Jackson who delivered in Game Three. Do it again, Luke!
Need something here
CT3 to the rescue?
It’s a start.
We still have a heartbeat
https://twitter.com/jonweisman/status/1452099362960470016?s=20
Thank you Treinen.
I am not well pleased with this turn of events.
Imagine an alternate world where Vesia came in to relieve Walker and had done this?
Before or after Rosario’ home run?
Before, after the walk and the PH double.
No bueno – need an out Vesia.
Vesia suddenly can’t throw strikes.
Vesia coming up short here
Should/could Brusdar have pitched to Rosario?
Should anybody?
Ha! Post of the night.
Would have liked to have seen it, but Vesia was the easy call there.
The saddest part of the night for me so far not being able to be present here tonight. Back from dinner but hosting friends.
That is a shame Dave. We need to close this season out together.
Heck, we need him for the win!
Of course. My bad…
That was some slider Brusdar!
We had about three too many late injuries to overcome.
Agreed. Not too mention Dustin May, and the Bauer disaster.
I don’t think the Dodgers would have traded for Scherzer if Bauer were not on administrative leave. Could have had Josiah Gray for the playoffs and Bauer or just Scherzer as it turned out.
Swatting the Gnats was still satisfying.
Like a WS all in itself.
The Braves are on fire.
Sadly true.
They look like a team on a mission. If they advance, racist chop and Travis Tritt or not, I will be rooting for them.
If it’s the COVID-friendly Barves versus the cheating Asterisks, I will not watch a single pitch.
That was some play at first.
Kenley tutoring Brusdar in throwing a cutter.
Brusdar-Joc battle
Brusdar gets the hit
Dodgers 2022 closer
I expect Kenley to be back, but Brewster will get a more prominent role.
Would like him to get more swinging misses, if only for my heart.
Hopefully his cutter will help with that plus more use of off speed pitches.
If we can keep them at three we might catch up. But that’s a big if.
Looks like it might be Rosario vs Yordan in the WS
Don’t speak so soon.
Could be a hard climb back, but we can do it!
I’ll be around until the end.
Me, too. On the East Coast so I may get sleepy…
Last year we survived RANDY AROZARENA
It wasn’t even a bad pitch.
Yeah, but another cutter.
Oh man.
Disaster.
Ugh
Bad futuring.
Good hustle Mookie. Thanks little d for being a catcher.
Yeah but Rosario is up.
He is under due
Hahaha!
Dang thank goodness catcher on first
Bye bye Anderson.
Nice knowin ya
Kinda sorry to see him go at this point.
Ugh. No walks.
Especially not to No. 8 hitter.
Really unfortunate.
Buehler back to being Buehler. Good thing.
That hit was a little slower than the previous 113 one
It weren’t a hit.
Got Doc out of his seat
Bounced off his ankle twice.
negative times negative is positive.
It hit his shoe.
Could have been better, could have been worse
Exactly.
I resemble that.
Out for dinner – but go Dodgers!
Poutine and bannock?
Belli calmed down and brought Trea home!
There’s one!
See that Taylor?
Nice Belli.
Phew! Way to go Belli!
Atlanta baseball needs to reclaim the team nickname “Crackers.”
Taylor, a base hit works as well.
Right side open
Something brewing?
Double steal?
Or as was said long ago, percolating.
Fermenting?
Too quiet
We. Need. Runs.
Stranding runners is what Walker does best, thank goodness.
Great pitch, Walker!
I really loathe that stupid chant.
I cannot stand it.
Not quite so bad as actively promoting COVID.
Come on Walker. Another DP.
Hard to DP Albies.
My goal tonight is to see Rosario NOT get on base.
Done!
Zelmo didn’t place it well.
Not a great hit.
Just between you and me, Rosario ain’t much of an outfielder. He nearly misplayed it.
Hitting Buehler fairly hard here. That’s not a good sign.
Not looking very good so far for Buehler. Joc just hit that ball 113 mph.
Taylor has home run on his mind.
Everyone needs to settle down a little.
Alright guys. We can get past 1-0.
Ugh. Hung that one. 1-0.
Doctor DP
Timely futuring.
I’ve seen enough Rosarios.
I really wanted us to score a few in the top of the first. Sigh.
Meh. I am betting on the bottom of the order
Tell me when the anthem ends…
Bruihl still questionable.
Doc now saying that he could go an inning tonight, if need be.
