NLCS Game Three, 2020

Dodgers at Braves, 3:08 PM PDT, TV: FS1

The Dodgers become the visitors today, and they’ll send LHP Julio Urias out to put a stop to the Braves’ two-game winning streak. He’ll face RHP Kyle Wright. Urias is 2-0 in this postseason, getting a win in long relief against the Brewers in the first Wild Card game and then going five innings against the Padres after May had opened the game. Wright threw six scoreless innings in the Braves’ clinching game of the NLDS against the Marlins.

Today in Dodgers’ history:

  • 1978 In the sixth inning of Game 4, Dodger manager Tommy Lasorda argues unsuccessfully that the umpires should call interference on Reggie Jackson when a throw from Dodger shortstop Bill Russell caroms off his hip near first base, allowing Thurman Munson to score from second. New York eventually overcomes a three-run deficit with a 4-3 walk-off victory in ten innings at the Bronx ballpark, tying the World Series at two games apiece.

  • 1985 “Go crazy, folks, go crazy.” – JACK BUCK, Cardinals broadcaster’s reaction to Ozzie Smith’s unlikely home run during the 1985 NLCS against Dodgers.

Ozzie Smith provides one of the most memorable moments in Cardinals history by hitting a dramatic homer to win Game 5 of the NLCS. The round-tripper was the first left-handed home run of the Wizard’s career, which spans 3009 major league at-bats.

  1. While the Dodgers weren’t able to get the Braves better relievers into the game, Ynoa, who pitched well, was penciled in as the Braves fifth game starter. So, it may be Fried on 4 days rest, instead of the 5 days he has rested between starts in the postseason (alternated between 4-5 days during the season).

  2. Do you agree with these guys that a blow out is better than a close game three? (For the Braves.)

  3. Don’t do this, Kolarek. Exactly what we don’t need is to make them feel better about their offense.

  4. Joe Buck described Dustin’s hair as one of the wonders of the world, Like the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Which I found funny.

  5. I think I said this about the Brewers with Gyorko but it also works for Braves and Pablo. The Dodgers should be the better team based on the fact that they don’t have Pablo on their team.

  6. Kid did good. Even as a spot starter the last two years, never approached that number of pitches.

  7. I think I’d let Jansen go another inning until he reaches around 20 pitches. Got the outs, but didn’t show much.

  8. Kenley went from being the leading man on a Broadway production to being the understudy in summer stock in a Connecticut show. (I know that Broadway is closed till almost the middle of 2021.)

    • Hard not to like Greinke regardless of what uniform he is wearing. I don’t think he even cares what uniform he is wearing.

  9. Good spot for Kenley. He could allow three grand slams and we’d still have the lead. (Oh, that was mean.)

  10. I’m hoping for Kenley to pitch a sharp inning. Not so sharp that he’s back in the closer
position, but sharp enough to potentially earn a relief position.

  11. A key to the game which didn’t pan out:

“The Braves used seven in Game 2, which means Wright needs to take some of the pressure off that bullpen,”

  12. To be honest, I had hoped we’d put up 3 in the first inning. That would have made me happy. I just read all the 200-plus posts. What a pleasure. I think our blog has hit for the cycle.

  13. Ump picking and choosing when the pitch is a strike or not. Hard to know what he’ll call them.

  14. Listening to the broadcast on the way home and Rick Monday said he had just gotten a text from Tim Neverett saying that the Dodgers seem to hit better on the road.

  15. If Seager hits for the cycle will there be an asterisk attached because he had 12 at bats to do it?

  16. Muncy double! This is where our playing this stadium all week would have helped us on that hit.

  17. 1-0 or 20-0 is still just one win, but boy it’s going to give the team confidence going forward and suddenly some quiet bats have roared back to life

    • Confidence going forward will be helped by the Braves not having quality starters for the next two games at least.

  18. I wonder if anyone who was the second out in an inning has ever hit a grand slam later on. (I know we had 2 grand slams against us many years back)

  19. Not to toot my own horn, but I have been telling anyone who would listen, which is my beleaguered husband, that it was great that our guys would be up first today.

      • He either delivers this game or what, delivering pizzas next year? No, another club would hire him, a club that would be delighted with NLDS banners and a couple of even losing trips to the World Series.

        • A little thick, no? The team’s stars haven’t performed. That said, they would let him go before they let them go.
