Dodgers at Marlins, 4:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA
Lefty Brett Anderson (3-4, 3.29) goes for the Dodgers and lefty Justin Nicolino (1-0, 0.00) goes for the Fish. This will be Nicolino’s second big league start. In his first one he went seven innings, gave up only four hits and no runs while striking out two, and got the win against the Reds. Anderson’s last outing was a good one against the Giants: he gave up only one run in six innings and got ten runs of support.
Other news: The Dodgers have reinstated Pedro Baez from the 15-day DL and optioned Ian Thomas to Oklahoma City.
Lineup:
Tonight's #Dodgers lineup vs. Marlins:

As WBBsAs mentioned below, Stanton is out 4 to 6 weeks with a broken bone in his hand. It occurred on his strikeout in the ninth inning. That’ll open the door for someone into the All-Star Game and HomeRun Derby
On the downside, Stanton will not face the Gnats on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Cheering for that will give you and the Giants something in common.
In the team RBI race, Brett Anderson (21 ABs) has now tied A.J. Ellis (70 ABs).
I just reviewed the video Gnatlights – thanks, Rox! Plenty of pleasurable moments.
Gnats in any form are not a good thing.
Currently have a gnat infestation in my kitchen. Think they came in on some bananas.
Know the bit about removing the food source to get rid of them. Did. But these gnats didn’t get that memo.
A canister vacuum cleaner with crevice attachment seems to do a world of good. Making gnats in any form vanish is kinda therapeutic, actually.
One of my memories of summers in the DC suburbs includes mowing our yard in that intensely humid climate, surrounded by a cloud of gnats. In my eyes, my nose, my mouth — they were really unpleasant.
Anderson hit a whole bunch of milestones in this game that he hadn’t hit in a long long time, if ever. His 10 strikeouts tied a career high, he went seven innings for the fourth time in seven starts, and for the second time this year he picked off two runners in the same game.
Dodgers up 2 again!
I’m feeling a bit sad to miss tonight’s game. I had a group of university students over this evening (a fun part of my job). Anyway – speaking of fun – looks like the Dodgers had a lot of it this game. Wow to the 16 strikeouts and wow to the hitting.
Trying to remind myself that correlation is not causation as I realize the Dodgers very modest 3 game winning streak coincides with Puig not being in the starting lineup!
and that makes it 17 to go….
I would definitely love to have the Dodgers win 20 in a row, but honestly would be happy enough with my prediction of them going 6-3 in their last nine games of the first half (i.e. 81 games).
Dee did what he could, but he’s not getting much help, thank goodness.
Woo-HOO!!! Once again, watching as I work. Superb pitching and timely hitting, for once in synch.
I was really pleased to see they scored in 4 innings and throughout the game.
My joy was tempered when I saw that FL is 15 games under .500 . . . still, a win is a win and hopefully LA can keep that synchronization through the rest of the season!
Strike out the side in the ninth, including Stanton? I hope Pedro is back!
Stanton reported to have a broken bone is his hand.
Báez looking exceptional.
Superb outing by Anderson, with 10 K’s in seven innings.
I committed a faux pas. Oahu has a plastic bag ban going into effect on July 1 (all the other counties have had one for a while now) and I just went into a Safeway with a Foodland cloth bag.
Is each island its own county?
Sorry, yeah. Well, Maui includes Molokai and Lanai, I think. Lessee, Hawai’i, Oahu, Maui, Kauai. The Kalaupapa Peninsula on Molokai is its own county. (That’s a result of isolation: Kalaupapa was the place where Hansen’s Disease patients were sent to quarantine them.)
Never been to Hawai’i, and have pretty much lost interest in the tropics. I’ve been to Easter Island half a dozen times, though.
Saw a TV episode about St. Helena in the South Atlantic last night. I think I’d rather see Easter Island.
I’d love to go to St. Helena, which is due to have an airport. I did spend a week on Ascension Island, where a lot of Saints work under contract to the Brits, en route from the Falklands to the UK.
I spent 27 months on Kwajalein in the Marshalls, 2,500 miles southwest of Honolulu.
I was on Ascension when the green turtles were arriving to nest from Brazil.
I spent a couple days on Johnston Island.
Just when it looked like they were going to waste another great opportunity, Guerrero comes through!
Scary start, but nice end to the inning!
Anderson helps himself . . . Dodgers have a rally!
Yes! — cashing in on bases loaded . . . by Rollins!
Thankfully it’s the Marlins making the baserunning gaffes so far.
Ho hum, another home run… (Nice going, SVS!)
SVS!
I agree with the need to manufacture runs but in the meantime, this is nice!
Attention Donnie: That is what is meant by manufacturing a run. Please pay heed.
Gordon has more steals in the first inning tonight than the Dodgers have had in their last 18 games.
How appropriate, with Maury Wills bobblehead game approaching.
I miss watching Dee pick team’s pockets.
Sadly, you may be able to this weekend.
Pederson’s repetitive strikeouts are getting annoying, sort of like mosquitoes at a family picnic. But his home runs are like the chocolate brownies.
Who hits more homers this weekend, Stanton or the Dodgers?
The Dodgers: 4 to 2.
Sounds good to me. I wouldn’t even mind if it was the other way around, just so LA sweeps.
One to zero Dodgers, so far…
Meanwhile, in Boston: https://twitter.com/OnionSports/status/614552671891099648
And here I thought it was chocolate syrup (which I like only in a glass of milk).
Strange lineup. Ellis two games in a row. Guerrero three games. Is the doghouse being refurbished or something?
This seems like it would have been kinda cool to watch: http://sabr.org/gamesproj/game/june-26-1944-tri-cornered-war-bond-baseball-game
Confusing, too. But as Branca said, for a good cause.
Great to have Baez back as another 7/8th inning option, though Nicasio has strung together 5 good appearances.
Link: I loved your time-lapsed video of your drive from Winnipeg to Vancouver that you posted yesterday. I was mesmerized and watched it in one sitting. I’ve driven across the U.S. several times but not Canada, although I’ve taken the train from Vancouver to Calgary a couple of times to visit friends. Great scenery.
I agree that it was a great find. Link living up to his billing for sure.
Not my drive, unfortunately, but I want to do it. I’ve only been to Vancouver in Canada, and that for Expo ’86 for a week or so.
