I thought for a brief few minutes I’d get to keep this board

which mysteriously arrived in the mail yesterday. It came in the mail receipt signature required. There was no return address other than Great Britain and no indication who the sender was. It would fit into an area on the side of the spice cupboard which has been empty since the bamboo/wicker pasta scoop/strainer thing fell apart due to insect damage.

It would have looked right there:

But no, it was not to be. The rightful owner tracked me down. It turns out to be a replica Japanese washboard from this shop in London.

Here’s the explanation, as far as I can guess. The plastic bag around the bubble-wrapped and brown-paper wrapped board had the address info. It clearly says Marion (my last name), and I’m not Marion. The street address is in much darker Sharpie black ink and is mine. Then the town, state, zip and country are in the same faded ink as the name line, but they all correspond to where I live. It’s like the street address got rubbed out along the way from England and the P.O. saw the city/state/zip data and looked up the last name in my town, found me and assumed I was the correct addressee.
