R.I.P., George Martin

And the Beatles era gets closer to ending. Take care of yourselves, Paul and Ringo!

George Martin signed The Beatles to their first record contract in 1962. He produced the first album, and the next, and the next, up until Let It Be. He came back to do Abbey Road and then the band was done. He went on to produce some of McCartney’s 1980s albums and one of Ringo’s. He also oversaw production of the Anthology.

Martin added the orchestration to “Yesterday” and he showed Lennon how to play tape backwards to create new songs: the result was “Tomorrow Never Knows.” He made a helluva mark in musical history. R.I.P., Sir George.

He also played the piano on this song.
