Scotland: Yay or Nay?

“Should Scotland be an independent country?” That is the question some proportion of 4,285,323 people – 97% of the electorate – will answer tomorrow in that northernmost region of the United Kingdom.

Votes will be cast at 2,608 polling places across the country between 07:00 and 22:00 on Thursday. The result is expected early on Friday morning.

The BBC’s Scotland Decides will bring continuous, up-to-date, coverage as all through the night, as well as comprehensive analysis. On Twitter, keep abreast of the all the action overnight via @BBCPolitics and @BBCScotlandNews.

The results should be known and announced around 6:30AM and 7:00AM Friday morning Scotland time, or 5:30AM – 6:00AM UTC. That’s 2:30AM – 3:00AM EST.

I can’t imagine Scotland as a separate independent country. At the moment the polls give the Nays a slight edge but it’s almost too close to call.
