We just seem to be going through the motions, without emotion.
In baseball, emotions make things worse.
Disagree.
Totally.
In contact sports like football, emotion can work to your advantage. In baseball, it totally distorts the concentration needed for complex activities. You can’t upend the second baseman any more.
Disagree.
You try to throw harder, you lose control. You swing harder, you miss. Baseball requires focus, and emotion destroys that.
I can see what you are saying but I don’t know if I agree. We don’t want robots out there playing baseball.
I took a hike to a waterfall today with family. I’m tired but I am not disappointed that I missed the game today. It was taped but deleted it without watching any of it.
I think the Dodgers will break out today.
Not with hives, hopefully.
How about with “thrives”?!
Break out or break down?
Go Dodgers!!
Yay!! Mets come back and beat the Gnats.
…swat the Gnats.
Gotta go by the game number – Link’s sister made multiple posts on the same date,
Okay I think I’ve got it now. I will try to let Bob H. Know.
Many thanks to Link’s sister for giving us game threads. Any update on Links condition?
Our 6 through 9 spots in the batting order did not get a hit Saturday or Sunday.
That’s not where the money was spent.
Didn’t seem like they were overly emotional but maybe it cost the Dodgers that game. Who knows? I don’t.
Regardless, emotions or not, Dodgers need to play better.
That is the problem. They don’t play with any fire in their bellies.
Pages is in over his head.
He’ll go down, but he’ll be back.
A run. Woot!
Why is this Ramirez guy still here? Good grief.
He’ll be gone shortly.
Game due to resume at 11:45
Pitcher applied himself to the task at hand. Batter did not.
And he used his emotions to do it.
The only evidence of emotion is from the failed Casey.
Ok but how about the real life example (cough, cough) of Dee Gordon hitting a home run after Fernandez died. Or John MacDonald hitting a home run on Fathers Day a few days after his father died. Or Pete Crow-Alexander hitting a home run recently after the pitcher threw at him 2 times in a row. Or Batista’s bat flip home run. Or….
Or actually, you are wrong to use that quote to be honest. It assumes that having emotions is always equal to losing your head. That assumption is false.
Exactly. You can play with emotion without going bat crap crazy and losing your head.
It just feels like there are too many examples of positive things happening out of emotions (joy, sorrow, anger, etc) to say that it is always bad to play baseball with emotions.
Kirk Gibson home run another example.
After the fact. Without even-keeled focus, Gibson would’ve failed.
Even keeled focus coupled with even keeled emotion. Gibby was noted for being an emotional player.
Meanwhile, in Michigan, our Great Lakes Loons are beating Beloit Sky Carp 5-0 in the second.
Feels like this one is soon to be over because of the weather.
So basically you have no definitive proof. It is just your opinion. And, there is no mention of the emotional state of either Casey or the pitcher in the poem.
Casey’s “teeth are clenched in hate.” Sounds pretty emotional from here.
Pitchers seem to have figured out Pages, who is looking more and more like KT3.
As Sgt. Friday (Jack Webb) used to say on Dragnet, “It figures.”
Sheesh.
Struggles continue.
I’m sick of Spencer Steer.
Steer clear of him then, I guess.
Really could use a win today. Snap the losing streak. Win today and take 2 of 3 from the Mets and get home with a 3-3 road trip. Go Dodgers!!

Who is Geoff Miller?
Casey lost his head.

As someone who used to coach high school baseball, I can say that positive emotion is often an asset. Moreover, it can be contagious.
Show us the proof.
I was there for three seasons. You weren’t. That’s all the proof I need.
Lets see yours first.. It is totally subjective. I doubt there is any tangible evidence to prove it either way.

Yep. They both need a trip to OKC.
You can’t send CT3 to OKC without his permission.
In Tim Cahill’s words… https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/e18b48593e8d98ef678d545168964da669bb21654bc90ce272e39d0fb8d7dfb8.png
Surprised? Not in the least. We’re moribund.
And fetid.
Not looking good. Wish it would rain.
