Phillies at Dodgers, 1:10 PM PDT, TV: NBCSP, SPNLA
The Phillies RHP Aaron Nola (2-2, 4.46 ERA) goes against the Dodgers’ rookie RHP Gavin Stone (0-0, 0.00 ERA).
- 1947 In a controversial move, Branch Rickey trades five Dodgers, including southerner Kirby Higbe, to the Pirates for five-foot, six-inch left-hand-hitting outfielder Al Gionfriddo and $100,000. Some believe ‘the Mahatma’ made the deal to send a message to the team about his commitment to breaking the color barrier and his support of Jackie Robinson, the first black to play in the major leagues this century. It’s a darned good move, considering that Gionfriddo made a game-saving catch of a DiMaggio fly ball in Game 6 of that fall’s World Series.
- 2004 Similarly to last season, the aging outfielder Rickey Henderson re-signs with the Atlantic League’s Bears, hoping for a shot of returning to the big leagues. The 45 year-old future Hall of Famer batted .339, hit eight home runs, drove in 33 runs, scored 52 runs, and stole nine bases for the Newark team last season before joining the Dodgers in July.
- 2009 Defeating San Diego 2-1 in 10 innings, the Dodgers tie a franchise record, winning their ninth consecutive decision at home from the start of the season. The 1946 club also reeled off nine straight victories at Brooklyn’s Ebbets Field at the beginning of the post-war campaign.
Lineups when available.
Kershaw doesn’t have it tonight.
Phooey times two.
Way to go Max…
Listened on the radio as I had an electrician here replacing my Federal Pacific circuit breakers and panel. That outfit lost its Underwriters Laboratories certification in the 1980s and its breakers are susceptible to not tripping.
We found an old unused one of these on the roof of the old house and our inspector flipped out and said “Get rid of it ASAP, even if it’s not hooked up!” So when we found we had one in service at the new house we freaked out and hired somebody to replace it.
Nice ending to a tight game!
It’s a bit earlier than last night’s 4:10 am first pitch. My sleep schedule is still skewed, but I’ll try to make it all the way through.
For those of you keeping score in the Western Hemisphere, this is MLBTV’s free game of the day.
WBB is it bedtime for you or time to get up?
It was well past bedtime, and I crashed quickly – but I was pleased to have stayed to the end. Muncy definitely atoned for his error.
And that’s that, I guess.
Epic grand slam!!!!
Even sweeter coming off of Kimblow.
MAD MAX!!!!!!
What a game. Nail biter.
Missed most of it, so my nails intact.
Maybe you can watch it again somewhere?
Nail bite context would be missing, so will catch the highlights
Oops, forgot this was a getaway game.
Your timing is immaculate.
Just in time for the walkoff it seems!
CT3 has crossed the Mendoza line.
Phooey. Such bad luck there.
Two bloopers and a walk.
Go Brusdar go!
Closed captioning says “Bruce Tarr Graterol.”
Big hit for Sam (though it coulda been scored an E).
The Fillies’ corner outfielders are not Gold Glovers.
We need a big inning.
Or a few more ABs by Vargas.
Ooph. Bunt scores Phillie run number 5.
Not an optimum inning.
Shakier third.
Stone getting schooled. Doing well.
Shoulda been scoreless.
