Brewers at Dodgers, 7:10 PM PDT, TV: FSWI, KTLA, SPNLA
RHP Corbin Burnes (0-1, 9.90 ERA) goes for the visiting Brewers while LHP Julio Urías (0-0, 3.12 ERA) goes for the Dodgers. In his first two starts (and first MLB starts) Burnes has given up three home runs in each game. He was 7-0 as a reliever for the Brew Crew last year, so this is probably an aberration. Urías only went 3 2/3 innings in his last start against the Rockies but was rescued by the Dodgers’ offense and got no decision.
Rich Hill says
he felt great after throwing his simulated game today. He said he didn’t feel any problem with the knee. “Good step in the right direction.”
On this day in Dodgers history:
- 1906 At Brooklyn’s Washington Park, Boston Beaneater rookie Johnny Bates becomes the first modern player to homer in his first major league at-bat. The 23 year-old outfielder connects off Harry McIntire in the top of the second inning in the team’s 2-0 Opening Day victory over the Superbas.
- 1962 Pete Richert, making his major league debut, comes out of the bullpen and strikes out the first six batter he faces, a major league record. The rookie southpaw fans four in the third inning in LA’s 11-7 comeback victory over the Reds at Dodger Stadium.
- 1976 The game against the Padres is rained out at Dodger Stadium for only the second time in the 14-year history of the ballpark. The washout ends a streak started in April 1967, covering a span of 724 straight contests, with subsequent postponements coming much sooner when inclement weather cancels two consecutive home dates in September.

NPUT
Tonight, shortly after game time, I’ll be on a flight from SCL to LAX.
Is there a TSA equivalent at international airports abroad?
Not quite so bad, but when you’re flying non-stop into the States you get extra scrutiny (also true from Scandinavia and, I presume, other airports). One of the advantages of a Lima layover is avoiding that.
It turned out to be a breeze this time – no inspections of electronics, no shoe or belt removal. It doesn’t have to so hard. Today at LAX, by contrast, I got extra questioning because I’d put my passport and wallet in my shoes.
Well, that game did not end well. This is starting to play out like last years start.
5 losses in a row. Yay, bullpen.
Edited: I take it back. Bullpen wasn’t responsible, The Teenager was.
Starter gave up 6 in 5; pen, 2 in 4. Plenty of blame to go around.
Pitching hasn’t been very good after the first two weeks.
Orel was talking about a pattern where the starters not providing length even when they do well. The first reliever in not doing the job and then a parade of relievers coming in with guys already on base. Said that inherited runners are scoring at a 60% rate.
Ouch.
Light at the end of the tunnel isn’t an oncoming train, at least. Of our top 4 starters, three are on IL and the fourth, Buehler, had an abbreviated ST. Still, we won’t get much length right away from Klayton and Hill.
Freese warms the crowd?
Great AB for Verdugo.
Seaver’s hr really needed to be a 2 run shot. Or a Grand Slam.
I wonder if Bellinger could do what no Dodger has ever done before? Hit 50 or more HRs in a season.
Shawn Green came close. So did Beltre.
Cody!!!! He hammered that!
It’s not that late in Santiago, but it’s late enough that I’ll just check in now and watch for a while in bed. Flying tomorrow night from SCL to LAX.
I wasn’t aware of how much help Steve Yeager gave to the makers of the movie “Major League”.
Misery.
Three runs with two outs? Anything’s possible, right?
Yeah, but the probabilities ain’t good.
Stretch Hader a bit more and we might not have the see him the rest of the series.
Welp, they did make him throw a lot of pitches. Guessing they had wanted him to pitch the ninth as well.
I feared as much
Now’s the time for the first JT dinger.
Now would be a rather good time for Turner to hit his first Hr ( I’m not greedy, a bases clearing double would do)
Making Hader work.
Let’s move up Hader’s ERA here, Max.
Average now up to.121
Nice, Taylor.
That’s some four-seamer Hader throws…
Out!
The Executioner’s song is Volver.
Uh oh. Kelly.
6th inning against bottom of the lineup. Doc trying to get him back on track with less pressure.
Uh oh Taylor
I was happy with the one inning. Surprised that Doc had him try to go another.
Ugh
I still think we can win this one.
Meanwhile the Padres keep on keeping on.
Ugh. I jinxed him.
Barnes has a really good eye.
Oh for the love of – what the heck is going on? !
Stop it already
Good grief.
Turner is wondering how to get one of those home run things.
He would have not been my pick as the last regular to get one
Mine either.
Of his 93 dingers as a Dodger, only two have been hit before May 1.
Burnes has given up 3 home runs in each of his 3 starts this year.
That’s enough of the back and forth then
Joc with the Tomahomer!
Worked better than the bunt attempt.
Psych!
Jocular!!
Hang in there Joc.
Urias with the successful bunts!
Back and forth we go…
Dodgers seem to be playing a few yo-yo games recently.
Nice to see Grandal, but I don’t miss him. I never really warmed to him.
One of the best at his position, but he’s replaceable.
Goodbye baby!
Bellinger!
Number 8!
Let’s bring Seager home, JT!
Seager half way to the cycle. So he has what a unicycle right now?
Bicycle, no?
I guess he would be shooting for a 4 wheeler?
First needs a tricycle.
True. And with that I think we have it all covered.
More better for Urias.
Runs per minute not that high for the Dodgers.
Bellinger really gets down that line quickly.
Dangerous but safe.
Sliding rarely makes sense, but you can also avoid the tag.
Belli gots wheels.
Pederson, Turner, and Bellinger really crowd the plate.
Ok JT. Your turn now.
Double! Sweet.
Seager you later!
Seager was eager!
Dodgers offensive half inning now as long as the Brewers.
That really rung the umpire’s bell. Good thinking to take him out.
What’s with all the 2 strike hits? What’s with the struggles with starting pitching?
Bad haircuts?
That MUST be it.
Fairly typical high first inning pitch count for Urias.
This is not starting well.
Nice cheer for Yasmani.
Good for the Dodger fans. He is off to a good start.
Guessing that Yasiel gets a standing O.
neigh
Solid first 4 hitters for the Brewers
And fifth hitter with OPS 1.054.
The Wild Horse! https://twitter.com/reds/status/1116785060798136321?s=21
A creative bobblehead.
Let’s serve up some bad hops to the Brewers.
Clever.
