Nationals at Dodgers, 7:10 PM PT, TV: SPNLA, MASN, ESPN
YALHP Gio Gonzalez (4-1, 3.03 ERA) takes the hill for the Nats. He’ll face the Dodgers’ LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu (2-5, 3.91 ERA). Gonzalez has hit a rough patch. After putting up a 1.62 ERA during April he ballooned to a 4.37 ERA for May. Ryu had his best start of the year his last time out, allowing just one run in six innings against the Cardinals.
This day in Dodgers’ history:
- 1977 On Old Timers’ Day, the Dodgers retire former manager Walter Alston’s uniform number 24. ‘Smokey’ compiles a 2040-1613 (.558) record along with seven pennants that results in four World Championships during his 23 years in the dugout.
- 2000 The Marlins select 16-year-old Adrian Gonzalez as their first overall pick in the first-year player draft. The first baseman, a student at Eastlake High School in Bonita, California, comes to terms with Florida on the same day he is drafted. Note: He was 18 according to Dodgers.com

Foo. I walked into Subway down 4-0 and figured that was it. Probably just as well I didn’t know we’d halved the lead but couldn’t get closer.
Not a fun game to watch, especially as I clogged the kitchen sink midway through and spent the next several innings unsuccessfully plunging the drain while vocalizing rule one violations.
I went to Subway because last Thursday our fridge/freezer starting emitting a very loud noise, indicating the vents that channel air flow weren’t working. No repair appointment was available until this coming Wednesday. I’ve had to throw out a whole lot of formerly-frozen food. Sears will pay up to $300 for damages of that sort when their equipment fails, and you’d better believe I’m gonna claim it.
Thanks for making me feel better.
The next while umpiring youth baseball that I miss a strike/ball call I will reflect upon the called third strike on Utley leading off the inning. Atrocious call.
Terrible call at a terrible time.
Dodgers lose again when I get to watch them on TV. Still haven’t “seen” the Dodgers win yet this year.
I’m with Winnipeg Dave. Ready for Justin to get back.
What is his ETA?
From the Dodgers official website: Turner will make his first rehab start Monday night at Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga. Turner went on the DL May 19 with a strained right hamstring.
Roberts said Turner will play five innings on Monday and will play in another game on Wednesday.
“The plan is to get him back some time this weekend,” Roberts said. “It could be Friday, it could be a day or two later.”
Rats.
— no bats.
C’mon Grandal, you can do it!
He is hacking.
Just teased us.
Oh, AGon.
Who’s left on the bench if Yasmani gets on?
The ESPN announcers rather Bellinger hit a HR then be walked.
How about a double?
Belly! Okay Grandal. Up to you.
We need some two out magic.
Umps killing us so far in June.
Go time, show time.
“No” time.
Thought that throw by Puig might have been closer to getting Rendon at 3rd.
Puig was pretty deep, and Rendón is fast.
True enough.
B team fielding.
Ha! B for Barnes.
Clever, but not on purpose.
“Claim mistakes were planned.”
“Evita” . . . “Art of the Possible”
“One rarely acts the same way twice.”
Yes . . . except for slumping Dodger bats.
BTW, I was reminded of “Rainbow High” when our president returned from his foreign trip and claimed victory.
In that case…
Bad decision by Barnes.
Frustrating.
Silver Lining Dept.: if this holds, they’ll only lose half a game.
This is Enny Romero, for goodness sakes. He entered the game with an ERA above 5.
Saving the comeback for the dramatic 9th inning.
OK Hernandez it’s up to you. Cash in Cory.
B team at bats.
Missing JT.
It has caught up with us.
Can’t strand a lead off double and win against a team this good.
I expect that Gutierrez is as surprised as anyone when he looks at the lineup and sees that he is the cleanup hitter.
Seager with the double. Let’s do this Dodgers.
Still 6 outs left.
Puig on with the leadoff walk.
Will our swords be mightier than their pen?
Nice line . . . but blunt swords so far.
Great job by Ryu actually. Went full 7.
Ryu at 70 strikes and 27 balls. That’s quite good, n’est pas?
Back into this game at least. And the bullpen is probably only an inning away.
Come on Barnes. Single up the middle.
Or not.
Feast, bats, feast! Bwahahahahaha!
Nats starters average 102 pitches.
Gio is above average.
Reaching Gonzalez AND increasing his pitch count.
Cut that deficit in half . . . let’s get another one!
Taylor drove that ball!
Taylor with the double! He is on fire!
Feast Bats awoke?!!!!
Nice hit, Seager.
He has been attacking first pitch strikes recently.
Seager’s had a real power outage lately, though.
True. Lots of singles.
OK Dodgers. Let’s get that leadoff walk all the way around to home.
Ask and receive!
🙂
Not much of a homecoming. . . thus far.
Have to hold them at 3 and then try and beat them late against their pen.
First part of that is now moot — unfortunately.
Curve balls up in the zone tend not to go well.
The Dodgers have won 25 of their last 36 games. We’ve gone from third place, four games behind Colorado, to second place, a half game behind Colorado in that span,
I am with Bob. What happened to our bats?
Feast or Famine, Part 2 —
That last road trip could have been 7-0 since they scored a total of one run in the three losses . . . but it also could have been 2-5.
And we scored more than two runs only once in the last five games of the road trip. This team has a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde personality at the plate.
Totally agree.
Could be starting pitching they are facing – but to be shutout it takes a whole staff…
And any postseason play will be against such SP.
A good point, unfortunately.
3 runs is insurmountable for the “famine” Dodger bats. Hopefully the “feast” bats from Milwaukee will show up.
40+ pitches in two innings? Even as good as our bullpen is, we can’t keep using them up from the 6th inning or earlier.
Deja vu all over again — same lament from last year . . . and — unfortunately — equally true.
Nice baserunning by Puig!
Ryu started well, but ended up having to work hard that inning.
I thought Hernandez got his foot on the bag first.
Nope.
Gopher ball bites Korean.
Nice start by Ryu.
The Nats (gnot the Gnats) have a fearsome lineup and great starting pitching. On the bright side, they have a terrible bullpen.
