LHP Reid Detmers (1-0, 3.38 ERA Spring Training) pitches for the visitors and RHP Gavin Stone (3-0, 1.93 ERA Spring Training) does so for the Dodgers.

In the major news of the day, Shohei Ohtani is scheduled to speak to the media regarding his former interpreter’s alleged gambling at 2:45 p.m. PDT. It will be televised live on MLB Network and SPNLA and carried on the radio on AM570 in LA and on the iHeartRadio app. Apparently he’s just going to read a statement and not take any questions, which will undoubtedly anger every working member of the press within miles.

  • 1934 For the third time in six days, track and field Olympian medalist (javelin, hurdles, high jump) Babe Didrikson takes the mound to face a major league team. The Orleans Pelicans’ hurler pitches two scoreless innings against the Indians and lines out in her only at-bat.(Ed.   • 1945 Tryouts are granted to pitcher Terris McDuffie and first baseman Dave Thomas when a group of blacks appears at the Dodger offices in Brooklyn. The two players will work out at Ebbets Field in front of Branch Rickey on April 7.

    While addressing reporters at Dodger Stadium on Monday, Ohtani read a prepared statement that was then translated into English by Will Ireton, who has taken on duties as interpreter for the two-way star.

    “First of all, thank you very much for coming,” Ohtani said through Ireton. “It’s been a tough week for fans and team officials, and I’m very grateful that the media has been patient in this process. On a personal note, I’m very saddened and shocked that someone who I trusted has done this.

    “I never bet on baseball or any other sports, or never asked somebody to do that on my behalf. And I have never gone through a bookmaker to bet on sports. … Up until a couple days ago, I didn’t know this was happening.

    “In conclusion, Ippei has been stealing money from my account and has told lies.”

    Ohtani added he did not learn of Mizuhara’s gambling debt until they had a conversation at the team hotel, and he never authorized payments to Bowyer.

  3. Injury news: Buehler throws Sim game for forty pitches, will do it one more time and then may go out for rehab assignment. It’s thought he might be back by mid-April. Graterol is expected back by then, as is Treinen. Others: later.
