Dodgers at Rangers, 1:05 PM PDT, TV: Bally Sports Southwest, SPNLA
RHP Bobby Miller (5-1, 4.25 ERA) takes the mound for the Dodgers while RHP Dane Dunning (8-2, 2.82 ERA) does so for the Rangers.
- 1913 In a game against the Superbas (Dodgers), Slim Sallee becomes the first pitcher in Cardinal history to steal home. In the third inning, the Redbird southpaw scores the first run in St. Louis’s 3-1 victory over Brooklyn at Ebbets Field.
- 1966 The Mets left fielder learns he is a new dad when the Dodger Stadium scoreboard relays the message, “Congratulations, Ron Swoboda. Your new son is born tomorrow morning”. Cecilia Swoboda gave birth to Chipper, the couple’s first child, at 1:05 AM Eastern Daylight Time, making it the next day on the West Coast.
- 2005 Yhency Brazoban records his 18th save when he works a perfect ninth inning as the Dodgers beat the Mets, 6-5. The Los Angeles freshman, who is filling in for injured closer Eric Gagne, breaks Steve Howe’s club rookie record for saves established in 1980.

Such a fun game! We are on fire right now.
Muncy now tied at eighth most LA dingers, with Green and Ethier, 162.
Karros tops?
Yep, 270.
The Dodgers have scored 12 runs in their last six innings: 2-3-2-0-3-2.
We need an update!
2-3-2-0-3-2-2.
14 runs over the last 7.
Update:
2-3-2-0-3-2-5!
17 runs through 7.

Smith is starting behind the plate for today’s mid-afternoon game (Texas time) after starting in a night game yesterday. No wonder: He is 10-for-17 in his last four games, with three doubles and five RBIs, raising his batting average from .270 to .291. Smith has also walked twice and not K’d over that quartet of contests.
He’ll have a day off tomorrow, I suspect.
Seager’s baserunning foolishness confirmed: https://www.si.com/fannation/mlb/fastball/injuries/texas-rangers-likely-to-lose-corey-seager-to-injured-list-with-sprained-thumb
I didn’t see the play. Why “foolishness?”
Trying to take an extra base on Mookie while four runs down in the eighth. He was safe, on appeal, but injured himself in the process.
Yeah, don’t understand that tag as well. For me, it was a risky decision given the score and the need for runs. Guessing he was looking to challenge Mookie and fire up his team. He made it. Injury is something apart. Don’t see how it “confirms foolishness”.
I doubt either the Dodgers or young Mr. Miller expected he’d be 6-1 for the big club in July of this season. Thank goodness, too.
Woo-HOO!!!
Dodgers win!
2 pitches. 2 outs.
Always nice when you can trade Grand Slams for outs and still win.
Nice maths.
Jonny likes the coffee up here.
Can DeLuca play third. It would be fun to see a Cey clone playing third.
Only Dodger fans left…
DeLuca gets a 3 run dinger – but not a fair fight.
This is a bit painful.
Agreed. But happy for Jonny D.
Another B Miller pitching today.
Let’s go Dodgers. Working on that RD.
Talk about stopping a team’s momentum. The only issue is I wish they would stay ahead of the Astros.
I was thinking the exact same thing! To the point of wondering for a nano-second who I wanted to win tomorrow.
I know. Heresy! But still…
But still… one doesn’t not like the Astros! Lol
Maybe better to root for the beleaguered Oakland A’s.
Position player gonna pitch.
Max dance!
6 innings and 85 pitches. Is he done?
7 hits over 6 innings is high but at least no walks.
Miller going for the win this inning.
Qualifies
A few bumps and a bruise – but made it through 5.
Mookie tags the ball hard twice and nothing. Gets the dink hit.
Now Freddie needs a dunker
Almost got one
I have often been critical of Friedman, but he deserves praise for the Martinez-Peralta-Heyward triple.
Now we need Mookie to get in on the fun.
Dodgers now have scored 17 runs in their last 7 innings.
Seems alright to me.
Also – it’s nice it is spread out over 2 games rather than just one. Going for the series win here.
Good job Bobby. Run prevention.
C’mon Bobby. Settle down.
Be disappointing (and concerning) if Miller does not get the W today.
Yes it would. Would be great if he can at least go 6 innings. Rest our bullpen and wear out theirs.
Bochy looks nauseous.
No longer comes across as Darth Vader now that he isn’t with the giants.
Good point.
Jar-Jar
It’s a good look.
Big fly from JD!
JD!!!
Doin’ the Freddie. Woot!!
It’s Freddie world and we are all just dancing along!
Freddie gotta be in the MVP conversation.
Yes.
I thought Acuna was going to run away with it but Freddie is saying wait a minute.
Are you doing the Freddie at home on your couch while watching the game?
Yes!
Freeman is beyond belief.
He is on fire!!
Miller cruising
40 pitches through 3 compared to 79 for Dunning.
Dodger: RBI leaders (at this moment): Martinez 69, Freeman 68, Betts 67, Muncy 58, Smith 52.
Update:
Freeman 70, JD 69, Betts 67, etc.
Update:
JD 72, Freeman 70, Betts 67…
JD scoots down the line.
Just saw a blurb in the Reds game that they have a 3-2-1 Tuesday. $3.00 12 oz beer, $2.00 Hot Dogs, and $1.00 Ice Cream Cup. Nice deal. Should be that way everyday at every ballpark.
Presumably a day game.
Tuesday games in Cincinnati are almost always at night. Most of their day games are on Thursdays and Sundays.
The food/drink prices at Dodger Stadium are through the roof, as I was reminded while attending two of the games vs. the Asterisks last month.
They have 30 20 10 promotions.
But I sure loved my churro sundae!!!
Ha!
Did you ever attend a game at Crosley Field? That centerfield slope was really weird.
No. Unfortunately. All the old ballparks were gone by the time I was old enough and had the means to attend games. I cut my teeth on the cookie cutter parks.
Maximum Force!
Freddie wood!
He is remarkable at the plate and in the field. And he seems like a top notch person.
I always thought he fell into the “pretty good” category when with the Barves. Seeing him on a daily basis with the Dodgers, I think he’s considerably better than that.
Same
Rojas is so slick in the field.
Where’d we get this second baseman again?
Ha! Saw that Lux was on the field earlier doing some routines. Said that he will hit off a tee in August.
Dunning at 48 pitches with none out in the 2nd.
Seems like a lot of Dodger fans there acoustically.
So it seemed last night as well.
It’s the little things that count: Martinez and Peralta combined for eight foul balls before the two reached base.
Will Smith had a bunch in his AB too.
Yes. He had four.
Peralta heating up again.
Max is a better baserunner than Seager.
That’s one dusty field.
Freddie leather!
Shortly we are off to Rancho Nicasio for https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLL7Eu7mdIo
