Dodgers at Orioles, 10:05 AM PDT, TV: MASN, MLBN (out-of-market only), SPNLA
LHP Julio Urías (7-5, 4.35 ERA) pitches for the Dodgers and RHP Dean Kremer (10-4, 4.59 ERA) goes for the Orioles. The Orioles got Kremer from the Dodgers in the Manny Machado trade in 2018.
Today in Dodgers’ history:
- 2017 Chris Taylor, Kiké Hernandez and Corey Seager each hit home runs as the Dodgers defeated the White Sox in a rain-shortened interleague game that went just seven innings in Chicago. Kenta Maeda gave the Dodgers five strong innings and they got two innings of relief from Ross Stripling.

NPUT
Snakes and Gnats both lose, so Dodgers’ division lead grows to two games over both (three games in loss column). Paddies have also lost, so they’re an even 10 games out. The idle Rox gain on all three.
Hey all! Flying home tomorrow- good work on the two out of three wins! Twice! We had a wild and wonderful time in Italy. But no baseball. So I’m ready to watch a few games.
The only time I ever visited Italy I hitched a lift from southern Germany through Switzerland to the Val d’Aosta, where I did see kids playing baseball – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CThDLCjKjAQ
In 1984 I dipped into Italy long enough for a lunch at Lake Como before getting back on the tour bus and heading back to Switzerland.
Three-game series against the AL West-leading Rangers starts Friday. Day off tomorrow.
Oh well. 2 out of 3 ain’t bad. On to Texas.
RBI celebrating her anniversary in Venice:

Is she also visiting Culver City?
I used to work in Culver City. It’s not a place I’d pick to celebrate an anniversary.
OK, then, how about Mar Vista?
Congratulazioni! RBI.
Congratulations to Tinker and Cameron on their wedding anniversary!
Time for Betts and Freeman to weigh in today.
Bickford. Doc is mailing it in.
Like the rest of the pen, he’s been good lately.
Not sure you want to waste higher leverage guys at this point in the game.
With this team, a deficit of three runs in the 6th inning seems anything but insurmountable.
Hasn’t Roberts seen enough of Julio today? I have.
That should be it for Urias. He needs his diaper changed.
Dodgers need innings from their starters, because the pen has been so overworked.
What a complete disaster by Urias.
Urias vs Urias
Julio gutting it out.
Gunnar has other plans.
Coulombe pitched in 10 games, all in relief, for the Dodgers in 2015 and 2016.
Drafted twice by the Dodgers.
Interesting.
17th round out of HS, but 4 years later 25th round out of college.
Ok CT3.
Ugh.
Peralta with a hit off of a lefty.
Alright. Back in the game.
That HR upped my confidence in Muncy. Let’s hope he can straighten things out.
Muncy is much better defensively than Kingman was, but his offense is reminding me of him: horrible BA but huge power numbers.
That’s your “opinion of Kingman’s performance?”
It ain’t over till it’s over…
Max says hello to Scoop.
Julito is not at all sharp.
With a few exceptions, that’s been his history all season.
It’s a testament to the others in the lineup that the Dodgers are doing so well with no contributions lately from either Muncy or Barnes. I have some confidence — not sure how much — that Max will snap out of it; I have no such confidence regarding Barnes. Since the A- S break, and including today, Munncy is 1-for-22 and Barnes 0-for-7.
Barnes isn’t in there for his offense – he’s in there to give Smith a breather. Max is a decent infielder, but he needs to produce at the plate.
I know that Barnes isn’t there for his offense, but the Dodgers should not continue to carry a catcher who is barely hitting .100. And the other day, which was a day off for Smith, Roberts had to pinch-hit Smith for Barnes because it was a crucial juncture and Smith caught the rest of the game. I think it was only two or three innings. There have to be other options out there. Barnes is en route to having the LOWEST batting average with 100 or more ABs in MLB history, starting with the Modern Era, 1900. Regarding his defense, it is neither spectacular nor awful. As far as throwing out base stealers and arm strength, look at this chart:

That was an ugly inning.
That was an ugly inning.
Rats!!
Well, this is a fine how do you do.
Urias doubles off of Urias.
Twitter is living down to Musk’s standards: poor Marisnick got hurt and a whole slew of people said “Great! We don’t want him on our roster anyway!”
People, he didn’t play a single inning in the 2017 World Series. He didn’t hurt the Dodgers at all.
“Musk” is an anagram for “skum.”

Very fine AB by Smith!
Will with the two bagger and rbi!
Sunny sky rain delay? They didn’t put the tarp on last night and it rained.
Really? How long a delay do they expect?
1:45 local time start.
Thank you.
Speaking of blackouts, read where MLB is taking over broadcasting of the Snakes from the bankrupt regional sports network. These cable-based networks are behind the blackouts. A transition to a flexible national streaming package with no blackouts might be possible sometime in the future, though teams that own their own networks such as Mets, Yanks, Bosox, and the O’s/Nats would likely object to such a model.
I’ve always been willing to pay a bit extra to eliminate local blackouts (Spoiler – I get MLBTV at no additional cost on my T-Mobile account).
