RHP Chris Bassitt (10-5, 3.92 ERA) takes the hill for the Jays and Julio Urías (7-6, 5.02 ERA) does the same for the Dodgers.
The Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers are finalizing a trade that would send superutilityman Kiké Hernandez to the Dodgers, sources tell ESPN.
He has spent most of the 2023 season at shortstop but can play second base and center field as well.

- 1962 At Sportsman’s Park, Stan Musial surpasses Giants’ legend Mel Ott as the National League’s all-time RBI leader. ‘Stan the Man’s’ two-run home run off Don Drysdale in a 5-2 loss to the Dodgers gives the Cardinals’ right fielder 1,862 career runs batted in with the Redbirds.
- 2017 The Dodgers defeat the Minnesota Twins to run their record to 70-31. Kenta Maeda gets his ninth win of the season and Josh Ravin posts his first save.

NPUT
Tomorrows pitcher for the Blue Jays.
Yusei Kikuchi
Position: Pitcher
Bats: Left • Throws: Left
Do we see Kike in the outfield? I hope so.
Unbelievable tag by Will Smith!
Redbirds have blown it, now trail Snakes 3-1 in eighth thanks to employing ex-Gnat Stratton. A’s have fallen behind Gnats 2-1 as well, and now have to score against SF’s only quality reliever.

Quique’s been terrible at SS for the Sawx, but Dodgers can use him more at 2B and in the OF v. RHPs.
Versus LHP. Can platoon with Peralta or Heyward.
I like that he is returning, bringing with him joy and excitement that is not common in MLB. We still need a right-handed bat and starting and relief pitching.
Probably takes Deluca’s place. I would have liked it if they had given Deluca a longer look.
They might keep Deluca because he is a right-handed bat. I hope that Yonny goes down instead. Hernandez can match Yonny’s versatility.
I should add, however, that Yonny is a switch-hitter, which I wasn’t aware of.
Yeah, but his forte is hitting righties, which is not where the Dodgers are thin,
Vargas may not be coming back this year.
I guess that is possible, but seems highly unlikely they bury him in the minors.
Yeah, pretty sure the tradeoff here is Kike for Yonny.
Colorado didn’t get the NL West memo: It’s Win Night.

Oh, me, of little faith. I was going to take my dog out for a walk after 8 1/2.
I took the dog out after Outman’s AB.
I almost bagged it Scoop. Glad I stuck around.
Glad we stuck around and didn’t go to bed! Lol
One of the sweetest wins I have ever witnessed. Way to go boys..
Great game.
How about that!
Outman and Rojas ROCKED the bottom of the lineup tonight.
Wowwwwww!
James does another thing!
What a sweet moment for Outman!
Not quite Out, man!
WAH-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dodgers win!!
Woo-HOO!!!!
Woof. Bunt line out to third.
Good feelings and nice comebacks are great.
I want a win.
Yonny is a good hunter. Sacrifice.
Hunter, maybe, but not bunter.
Old friend Mitch White coming in.
Brusdar rocks!
Great job Graterol.
And Mookie and Smith…
He’s out, IMHO.
Very close but clearly out, and the blocking complaint was ridiculous.
He’s out.
Can’t imagine they won’t challenge, but no way he was blocking.
“Beginning in the eighth inning, a crew chief may conduct a replay review of all reviewable calls upon his own initiative or upon the request of a manager who has no remaining manager challenges.”
Replay review from MLB.
How many times can they request a review I wonder?
So it really doesn’t matter if you burn your challenges. You can just ask the crew chief for another one. Total crap.
Mookie guns him down.
YES! MOOKIE!!!!
Who initiated the challenge? The jays already lost theirs I thought?
Crew chief
Total bullshit.
Why is he able to do that?
Smith ran right thru the stop sign. Poor Espinal didn’t know what to do with the ball and Will kept on going. Wow.
RATS! He looked safe at second.
I thought he was safe.
Unbelievable!
Tie game!!
CT3. Tie game…
CT3!!
Wow! Amazing!
Struck out at the exact same pitch three times. Ugh.
Good job by Dino. And Smith.
Oh JD. That hurts.
Well this has gotten exciting.
3 on. 1 out. Down by 2.
This reliever getting a lot of rope.
They burned a bunch of relievers yesterday.
Good point.
Keep it alive Maximum.
7-5!
Nice work Smith.
Freddie is close, but he’s not Superman.
Need at least 2 more big hits.
Shoot. Freddie needed to keep it rolling.
It ain’t over until…
Nice work Mookie.
Glimmer of hope.
Just logged on. (Writers group tonight.) What the heck?!?!?!
Dodgers will probably score 2 or 3 runs to make it close. They have answered back in the bottom of each inning the Jays have scored.
Well that takes care of that.
Come on Dodgers. At least pretend you still have a chance to win this game.
Or are you trying to lose 6-3 again tonight?
Proved me wrong. 7-3 Jays.
Bruihl is not helping with these walks.
Kiké might be getting here just in the Nick of time if Deluca is out.
Haven’t looked into the actual numbers, but recently it feels like the games are getting a bit longer in terms of time again.
Or maybe I have gotten used to shorter game times and now anything 2:45-3 hours feels longer.
Games feel longer when you are losing.
Sometimes I guess. Other times it feels like once you get behind the opportunities and innings go by far too quickly.
Especially when you strike out 30% of the time and strand runners.
CT3 is back to striking out. 2 k’s on a total of 7 pitches.
Two more shots. Rally Time. Clap..Clap.
Kiermaier has become a pest.
Well, that hurts.
Yup. Just not feeling it tonight are the Dodgers.
Offense is cold all of a sudden. When Mookie is not hot, we don’t fair well. And he has been cold the last week.
He will get one more shot in the 9th.
Offense asleep.
I’m about to join them
Probably smart.
I hear that.
He catches, he steals, he takes the extra base, he walks, he hits.
He crawls on his belly like a reptile.. Step right up folks. One thin dime, one tenth of a dollar.
He is going to sell tickets
First row.
Too close to overturn.
Even if so, reckless baserunning.
Good throw by Kiemaier to third and Chapman doesn’t have a shot.
I fear Outman just ran into an out.
Redbirds and Atléticos both blow games to Snakes and Gnats, respectively, so Dodgers must win to maintain their four-game lead.
Urias with a gritty performance.
I know I was gritting my teeth a few times while he was pitching.
Julio, quality start.
Phew. Got through the 6th. Quality start. Lol
C’mon Julio..
Julito just can’t put ’em away.
Snakes have tied Redbirds in eighth, but Atléticos have also tied Gnats in eighth.
High pitch count for Bassitt.
Time for the offense to show up.
Just an aside, but, speaking about Julio losing money, do you think Juan Soto will regret turning down the Nats 15 year/$440M offer.
He’s doing pretty well for the Pads, so we’ll see.
https://twitter.com/themunson/status/1684042508316319745?s=20
Mook’s looking awful tonight.
Julio’s body language is terrible
How about his spoken language? Any spicy words being used do you think?
Ask his glove. It has a front row seat as he walks off the mound and back to the dugout.
He does look frustrated.
Julio was worried about that one
Hung the slurve.
2 singles, a double and 2 walks in the last 6 batters. But no one has touched home plate.
No but Smith did the Freddie
Freddie did.
Way to try and change the past big guy.
That green patch on the Jays’ uniform sleeve is an advertisement for TD Bank.
Toronto Dominion. I used them when I lived in New Hampshire. The worst bank I have used.
Obviously you’ve never used an Argentine bank.
I tried but couldn’t find one.
It’s almost like the Dodgers are in a bit of a let down mode coming off their successful road trip.
Or, they are need of starting pitching at the trade deadline.
Uriás might be costing himself a few million on his free agency deal if he keeps pitching like this.
Would the Dodgers trade him?
I would listen to offers if I were AF..
He is a free agent next year so he is a very short rental.
Also, I can’t think of a first place team that has traded away a very established starter at the trade deadline. Especially a team that needs pitching.
But honestly – it’s free to listen.
I’d listen, but I doubt I’d get one I’d take. They think they can fix pitchers (and they’re often right), so they’d try to keep him and correct whatever’s wrong, I suspect.
He’s playing himself out of ace money.
I’m doubting Julito will get a qualifying offer.
$20 million or what ever it would be is light work for the Dodgers next year. I think they would take that deal.
He will get the qualifing offer.
Dang
Is Dang the past tense of Ding?
Ding, Dang, Dong.
Pfffffffffffft!!!!!!
Why, with two out, did Heyward not try to score?
Dino. And Mookie coming up.
Betts?
Rats!!
Jason making hay
I noticed Muncy’s pants were dirty. Is he reluctant to take them off and be washed?
Had to dive to try to get the first hit of the game.
I like my made up story better, players being superstitious and all.
So do I.
Tied
Freddie!!! Woot!!!
Hammered!
Freddie overtaking Acuna for MVP.
Mook called out on a ball. Geez.
It was a strike, a hittable one.
Not on GameDay.
Seen live, it was right on the corner.
I saw it live and it looked outside. And it was not in their little square.
It’s hard to dislike the Scrub Jays but, on the other hand, they do have Springer and Belt.
There are teams even with their own division that I would root for more. Not to mention others in their league – or (obviously) in the NL.
If I were to make a list from 1 (Dodgers) to 28-30 (some variation of NYY, Houston, SF depending on my mood and/or what works best for the Dodgers), Toronto would be probably be in the 12-15 range.
Why are you anti-Canadian?
Interesting question coming from a Giants hater
Who are the “Giants?”
An American baseball team in your backyard.
You misspelled “Gnats” (which are more annoying than hateful).
Hope the good Urias shows up tonight.
Among other things, he is back to his dreadful 1st innings thing.
And here we go…
So far, so bad.
Has Julio lost velocity on his fastball?
As Bob said below, we might have to wait for the second inning
