Game 100, 2023

Blue Jays at Dodgers, 7:10 PM PDT, TV: MLBN (out-of-market only), Sportsnet, SNET-1, TVA Sports, SN NOW App, SPNLA

RHP Chris Bassitt (10-5, 3.92 ERA) takes the hill for the Jays and Julio Urías (7-6, 5.02 ERA) does the same for the Dodgers.

Today in Dodgers’ history:

  • 1962 At Sportsman’s Park, Stan Musial surpasses Giants’ legend Mel Ott as the National League’s all-time RBI leader. ‘Stan the Man’s’ two-run home run off Don Drysdale in a 5-2 loss to the Dodgers gives the Cardinals’ right fielder 1,862 career runs batted in with the Redbirds.
  • 2017 The Dodgers defeat the Minnesota Twins to run their record to 70-31. Kenta Maeda gets his ninth win of the season and Josh Ravin posts his first save.

Lineups when available.

  1. Tomorrows pitcher for the Blue Jays.

    Yusei Kikuchi
    Position: Pitcher

    Bats: Left • Throws: Left

Do we see Kike in the outfield? I hope so.

  2. Redbirds have blown it, now trail Snakes 3-1 in eighth thanks to employing ex-Gnat Stratton. A’s have fallen behind Gnats 2-1 as well, and now have to score against SF’s only quality reliever.

  3. Quique’s been terrible at SS for the Sawx, but Dodgers can use him more at 2B and in the OF v. RHPs.

      • I like that he is returning, bringing with him joy and excitement that is not common in MLB. We still need a right-handed bat and starting and relief pitching.

        • Probably takes Deluca’s place. I would have liked it if they had given Deluca a longer look.

          • They might keep Deluca because he is a right-handed bat. I hope that Yonny goes down instead. Hernandez can match Yonny’s versatility.

          • I should add, however, that Yonny is a switch-hitter, which I wasn’t aware of.

          • Yeah, but his forte is hitting righties, which is not where the Dodgers are thin,

          • I guess that is possible, but seems highly unlikely they bury him in the minors.

  4. Oh, me, of little faith. I was going to take my dog out for a walk after 8 1/2.

  5. “Beginning in the eighth inning, a crew chief may conduct a replay review of all reviewable calls upon his own initiative or upon the request of a manager who has no remaining manager challenges.”

    Replay review from MLB.

    • So it really doesn’t matter if you burn your challenges. You can just ask the crew chief for another one. Total crap.

  6. Dodgers will probably score 2 or 3 runs to make it close. They have answered back in the bottom of each inning the Jays have scored.

  7. Come on Dodgers. At least pretend you still have a chance to win this game.

  8. Haven’t looked into the actual numbers, but recently it feels like the games are getting a bit longer in terms of time again.

Or maybe I have gotten used to shorter game times and now anything 2:45-3 hours feels longer.

  9. Redbirds and Atléticos both blow games to Snakes and Gnats, respectively, so Dodgers must win to maintain their four-game lead.

  10. Snakes have tied Redbirds in eighth, but Atléticos have also tied Gnats in eighth.

  11. Just an aside, but, speaking about Julio losing money, do you think Juan Soto will regret turning down the Nats 15 year/$440M offer.

  12. 2 singles, a double and 2 walks in the last 6 batters. But no one has touched home plate.

  13. It’s almost like the Dodgers are in a bit of a let down mode coming off their successful road trip.

Or, they are need of starting pitching at the trade deadline.

Uriás might be costing himself a few million on his free agency deal if he keeps pitching like this.

        • He is a free agent next year so he is a very short rental.

Also, I can’t think of a first place team that has traded away a very established starter at the trade deadline. Especially a team that needs pitching.

But honestly – it’s free to listen.

        • I’d listen, but I doubt I’d get one I’d take. They think they can fix pitchers (and they’re often right), so they’d try to keep him and correct whatever’s wrong, I suspect.

  14. I noticed Muncy’s pants were dirty. Is he reluctant to take them off and be washed?

  15. It’s hard to dislike the Scrub Jays but, on the other hand, they do have Springer and Belt.

    • There are teams even with their own division that I would root for more. Not to mention others in their league – or (obviously) in the NL.

If I were to make a list from 1 (Dodgers) to 28-30 (some variation of NYY, Houston, SF depending on my mood and/or what works best for the Dodgers), Toronto would be probably be in the 12-15 range.
