Braves at Astros, 5:09 PM PDT, TV: Fox
LHP Max Fried (Postseason 1-2, 5.40 ERA) tries to nail the series victory down for the Braves. Standing in his way is RHP Luis Garcia (Postseason 1-2, 7.62 ERA) of the Astros.
Fried had a shaky outing in Game 2, giving up five runs in the game’s first two innings. But much of the damage against him came on ground-ball singles through the holes, and he settled in as the game evolved. Garcia allowed one run on three hits with four walks and six strikeouts in only 3 2/3 innings in Game 3 on Friday.
On this date in baseball history Chase Utley homered twice in Game Five of the 2009 World Series, staving off elimination by the Yankees for one more day. The Cubs beat the Indians 8-7 in ten innings in Game Seven of the 2016 World Series to win their first title in 108 years.

Gnatfans are freaking out. https://twitter.com/extrabaggs/status/1456013034980212738?s=20
There goes the one Giant I liked and respected.
Mays was the last Giant who deserved respect (all since have been Gnats).

Well, if you count Baltimore – Washington as one metro area Peter Angelos of the Os and Dan Snyder of the NFL team would give these two a run for the title.
I know almost nothing about handegg (and couldn’t care less), but Johnson and Fisher are in a league of their own.
C’mon Braves. Beat the cheaters.
Going well so far!
HOT STOVE!!
The right team won this one.
Totally agree.
Athletically AND morally! 😉
The arguably less deplorable team won. The right team lost.
It must have been satisfying to see the Trashtros take it on the chin at home (Full disclosure: I did not see a single pitch).
I think we would have gotten clobbered by the Astros – we had run out of steam. So I’m glad the Braves did the clobbering.
And chopping
BALLGAME. Congrats to the Braves.
Hard to believe it has been 26 years since the Maddux, Glavin, and Smoltz Braves won the series.
They should have won a lot more than one. 14 division titles in a row and just one WS win to show for it.
Agreed. Especially with that pitching.
One more to go.
Done!
Woo-Hoo
2 outs away.
Given the choice, I find myself less unhappy with the Braves winning than the Astros. Freeman is a tremendously likeable person. I have watched how pleasantly he speaks with runners at first base, particularly Mookie. Anyway, pitchers and catchers report in about 3 1/2 months.
I have always liked Freddie Freeman as well.
He is a free agent after this season. How good would he look in Dodger Blue?
He doesn’t want to move, he’s made that clear. And we’ve got a first baseman (or two, counting Bellinger) anyway.
Goodness gracious. 7-0 on a Freeman HR.
And somehow enough Atlanta fans to execute a mild chop chant…
Astronomical odds of a chant breaking out.
Noticeable because Astro fans are so quiet.
They should bang trash can lids with the chop.
A lot of good things happening in this game starting with Fried surviving the play at first base which could have resulted in a big time injury. Go Braves!
Hopefully the Deplorable Series ends tonight. The Trashtros will be insufferable if the Barves lose in seven (“We never needed to cheat!”).
