Diamondbacks at Dodgers, 6:10 PM PDT, TV: FS-A, SPNLA
The D-Backs send RHP Zack Godley out to make his first start of the year. He was 15-11 with a 4.74 ERA last season. He’ll face the Dodgers’ RHP Kenta Maeda, in his first start of the year. Maeda was 8-10 with a 3.81 ERA in 39 games, 20 as a starter. He only threw 125 1/3 innings all year, but astonishingly he struck out 153 in those innings.
Today in Dodgers’ history:
- 1966 Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale’s refusal to report to spring training ends when the hurlers agree to the Dodgers’ offer of $235,000, signing for $130,000 and $105,000, respectively. The LA starters’ joint holdout lasts for 32 days, paving the way for other players to be more aggressive when negotiating with owners.
- 2012 Jamie Moyer becomes the oldest starting pitcher to make an Opening Day roster when the Rockies announce that the 49 year-old southpaw will face Houston in the second game of the season. Knuckleballer Hoyt Wilhelm was the same age as the Colorado left-hander when he opened the season with L.A. in 1972, but ‘Old Sarge’ appeared strictly in relief for the Dodgers.
Lineup when available.
Tonight’s Dodger lineup vs. D-backs:

NPUT
I managed to stay awake through six innings, then dozed off with reasonable confidence in a victory.
Kershaw threw a 50-pitch simulated game today and will probably have at least one minor league rehab start beginning on Thursday.
He might want to ramp it up, with Russell Martin, looking good on the mound.

Martin has considerably more velocity.
I love a parade!
It’s a party for sure.
Woo-HOO!! My goodness!
Nice catch by Joc but paled to the quality of the video. Technology sneaks up on me sometimes.
Lead off walk (probably) better than lead off home run.
We win. Battle of the slinging catchers.
18-5. This helps make up for last night.
This could turn out to be more tiring than last night’s game.
Well. This should help the Dodgers Pythagorean percentage.
Murphy seems to be gaining velocity.
Both pitchers have doubles now. Poor CT.
Always fun when the back up catcher comes in to pitch.
He is messing with their timing.
Used to be fun, but now it is a feature. Talk of banning it, perhaps in return for 26 person roster.
Hopefully Brock Brock can lower his era tonight.
Maeda gave up the long ball thrice – but still a good outing. One strike away from 7 full innings.
That was a wild inning.
Officially a laugher yet? See you guys later – I have to see my daughter in law’s band now. Will hopefully chime in with you know what later!
Taylor only Dodger without a hit so far tonight.
Even with two chances in one inning.
Seeing the impact of Chase’s coaching. He is VPHBP, no?
Koch is struggling cooking it up in the kitchen tonight.
Mucho runs!
Runs are nice. Lots of runs even nicer.
Love how the Dodgers have matched the AZ home runs – and scored 4 other times as well. So far. Looking for more right here.
Belli bello!
Puig and Reds having trouble getting started. Played on Thursday, but Friday and Saturday games postponed due to rain. Might snow tonight in Cincinnati, but tomorrow party sunny with a high of 39.
Good time to check in. Started at 1-1!
0-0!
CT ends the fun.
Couldn’t he have just struck out?
Good time for Turner to introduce himself to the 2019 season.
And so he does.
Let’s go JT. Time to get hitting.
Turner agreed.
No eyes. Did he look safe?
I have the same question.
The question was whether or not the catcher kept his foot on the plate otherwise not that close.
So Snakes throwing a righty tomorrow with Seager and JT scheduled to rest. Max to play second and Quique third? (And Verdugo getting a start).
Doesn’t Muncy play third or do you already know Muncy will play second.
Recall he had some trouble there last year, 7 errors in 38 games (30 starts)
Freese didn’t look great at third during the spring. Kike’ finally gets a position so I don’t think I would move him to third.
Freese better fielder than Max, but guessing Doc goes with the lefty bat. Good point about Quique. Let’s see how Doc plays it.
Just got back home from dinner in Barrio Bellavista, and now to watch as long as I can in bed on the iPad. The last you’ll hear from me tonight, probably.
Recall a couple of good restaurants in that barrio, including a Peruvian one.
Lots of good restaurants in Bellavista. We chose a Spanish one, which I was only so-so, but I can’t eat their paella because I’m allergic to mussels.
Frustrated all last night with spotty mlb.tv link, so going with Gameday and audio.
Turner not really on track yet – despite looking sharp in ST.
Turner owned Spring Training.
Battle of the lead-off home runs! Let’s go!
One was more funner
Much more funner!
Here’s hoping Maeda goes reasonably deep into the game. And let’s say no to a losing streak.
Tonight’s game starts at 10 p.m. Chilean time, and I have better WiFi in Santiago. After returning from an early dinner (8 p.m. start time), I should get to see at least some of it.
I still have an extra-innings hangover from last night… no alcohol, just frustration.
That game ended around 5 a.m. Chilean time, but my rural WiFi shut down at midnight.
