Game 8, 2016 (aka Opening Day at Dodger Stadium)

Diamondbacks at Dodgers, 1:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, FS-A, MLBN (out of market only)

The visiting D-Backs send Patrick Corbin (0-1, 5.14 ERA) to the mound to face the Dodgers’ Kenta Maeda (1-0, 0.00 ERA). The next run Maeda gives up will be the first one of his American MLB career. All the runs Corbin gave up in his first start were via home runs; the Dodgers only have three so far this season so he may be safe. On the other hand, Maeda has one of the Dodgers’ HRs; Corbin may need to be careful pitching to him.

The Dodgers are expected to activate Howie Kendrick and Yasmani Grandal from the disabled list for this game, which means they’ll have to put two players on it or send two down to Oklahoma City. I hope I don’t have to type that too often. I still think of Albuquerque as the location of the AAA affiliate, even though Las Vegas was the site for a few years recently.

Lineup when available.

And there’s this news from Ken Gurnick as well: “Roberts said Van Slyke on DL. Grandal active.”

    • Bright side? Relatively easier to fix at this point if it keeps up this way, as compared to offense and starters.

  1. Oh, man. This bullpen is not living up to expectations, or maybe not up to management’s expectations. The fans may have expected this.

  2. You hate to lose a shutout, but it wouldn’t matter if the Dodgers were up four or five runs. Tying the game when you lose it is more painful.

  3. The material on the backs of the Dbacks uniforms are darker than the fronts, so they all look like they are drenched in sweat…

  4. 6:30 p.m., and it’s already getting dark in Buenos Aires. The trees on our block still have their leaves, though.

  5. Nice escape, but pitch count sneaking higher. With the disarray in the bullpen these days, that does not lead to an unsettled mind.

    • The bullpen is better than it’s shown so far, but I’d like to see Maeda go at least seven.

  6. It’s 5:30 p.m. in Buenos Aires, and I can open that bottle of Torrontés in the fridge, even though it’s a cool autumn afternoon.

    • Good for you!

I really think it would have been more poetic and suitable for Vin’s style if they’d named it Vin Scully “Way,” but maybe that’s just me.

  7. SVS on the 15-day DL with back stiffness. Grandal and Kendrick return from the dead. Kendrick could see some time in LF, where he played a bit with the Angles.
