Yesterday was Game Five of the American League Division Series, and the Tigers managed to hold on to beat the Yankees in a game which had anxiety dripping off every pitch from the first inning on.

Today there are two more of these high-wire acts. Over the past few years there have been relatively few series which have gone to the last possible game, so it’s a treat to see three of four divisional series go to the limit.

And the Brewers beat the D-Backs in ten innings to advance to the NLCS in another tight game. The Brewers led 2 – 1 into the ninth when the D-Backs tied it on a safety squeeze. In the bottom of the tenth the second Brewer up doubled and the next guy up singled to center to score him. That was exciting.

Wouldn’t you know it? Yet another one-run game, this one a three-hit shutout by the Cardinals’ Chris Carpenter. The Cards got one run in the first inning on a triple and a double and Carpenter made it stand up the rest of the game.

This is turning out to be quite a post-season so far, and when you add that amazing last day of the regular season when the Cardinals and the Rays got into their respective division series by the skin of their teeth, well, baseball fans should rejoice.
