I got news about the result of last week’s scans today. I didn’t exactly get it in the approved fashion, but I got it. The Radiation/Oncology appointment nurse called me this morning to say her doctors had gotten the results and based on those didn’t see any need for me to come in for consultation. In other words, as far as they were concerned I had no cancer cells to kill with their treatment.
Well, that was nice to hear, but I thought I’d rather hear it from some doctor I’d actually met rather than a harried nurse trying to keep her appointment book clear, so I called the ENT Clinic’s Nurse Manager and explained what I’d heard. Then I told her that I’d really like to get confirmation from one of the people familiar with my case. She agreed to put the scan results along with my message on the desk of one of the doctors who did the surgery back on July 12th.
A little while later I got a call from Dr. Kolb, who (I think) actually wielded the blade a month ago under Dr. Sniezek’s supervision. She told me that the scans showed no evidence of any cancer cells in my lymph nodes, my liver, lungs, or any other organs “and that’s what we were looking for.” She said the scans confirmed the biopsy results after surgery; that the removal of the uvula seemed to have gotten all of it. She told me they still want to see me every couple of months to be sure there aren’t any signs of recurrence, possibly for as long as a year, but that I looked to be home free at this point. We confirmed that I’ll be at the clinic on the 21st for the first of those checkups, although I suspect it will be more of a “how does our surgery look six weeks later” than anything else.
So there you have it. I’ve been extraordinarily lucky, and all I’ve paid for that luck was a uvula. Cheap enough, I’d say.
Congrats Steve. May your good health continue!
Not the best way to get good news but I’m glad she was correct! Glad you’re on the mend!
Good for you for getting it confirmed (and perhaps making a point in the process), and congratulations on the excellent news!
Whew! Congratulations on the good news!
Excellent news! Not having to go through radiation to the head/neck area and no chemo is a very good thing indeed (and I should know). Despite what the comic books and movies suggest, you really don’t get any superpowers after being blasted by radiation.
That’s the verdict we all were hoping to hear. Congrats, buddy. Big relief, huh?
Great news, Link! Still off the cigs?
Are you kidding? Of course I am! If I’ve made it five weeks without them I’m not going back now!
Yay! Excellent news! May it stay that way.
Very good news!
Oh good! And glad to hear this!
That’s what I’ve been waiting to hear/read!
What’s the state of the art in prosthetic uvulas? 🙂
Good news.
Awesome Steve
Heh. Karen, somebody’s thought of that: Uvula Industries. I began to have my doubts about the site’s veracity when I read about the company’s diversification.
HOORAY for you! Great news, we needed something positive here at the Murray-Bahm manse.
So glad you double-checked. Thanks for letting us know.
So very glad to hear this!
Excellent news! May all your checkups be clean.
Congratulations! That is the best news that I have heard all week. I am glad that you are well in body. And it is good to hear that you are staying away from the cigarettes. Hope that your health stays well.
