Neil Armstrong

The taciturn commander of Apollo 11 died today at the age of 82.

In his honor, here’s Gahan Wilson’s satiric tribute to Armstrong’s first step onto the surface of the moon in 1969.

The moon landing is one of those images I’d swear I saw, even though I know I didn’t. We lived on Guam at the time, and there was no live television on the island in 1969. We heard the AFRTS live radio broadcast of the event, but it wasn’t until years later that we actually saw the video.

Godspeed, Mr. Armstrong.
