    • But does he realize that? Heyward, Lux, Enrique are all hanging on as are several of our relievers. Biggio should be the first to be cut. All our injuries are catching up with us.

      • I would not be unhappy if they got rid of all the aforementioned and Biggio. Bring up the kids/prospects. Can't be any worse.

    • I was willing to cut him some slack, but that's tightened to the breaking point.

  1. Big pool day w kids and grandkids. I’m glad it’s at least within reach. Why are we even pitching to Walker???

  2. Rox have beaten Keggers, who are dangerously close to taking second seed spot from Dodgers. Three-gamer with them starts tomorrow.

  5. Before expansion and interleague play, Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day used to be when virtually every team played a doubleheader. One ticket got you into both games. No day-night affairs. On their first Fourth of July as the Los Angeles Dodgers, in 1958, there were 15 doubleheaders. The only two teams who didn't play a doubleheader, in fact didn't play at all, were the Dodgers and the Cardinals, who had played a twinbill the day before in L.A. Why no doubleheader in L.A. on July 4th that year? Because the L.A. Memorial Coliseum was staging its annual Fourth of July fireworks show.

    • Good stuff Scoop. I remember scheduled twi-night double headers well. Usually on a Friday night. I went to a number of Dodgers-Reds double headers at Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati. Saw the Garvey, Lopes, Russell, and Cey Dodgers play the Big Red Machine. If I recall correctly it cost $3.5O.

  7. Today in Dodgers History
    July 4th

1884 In American Association action, Louisville right-hander Guy Hecker pitches complete games to win both ends of a doubleheader. The Youngsville, Pennsylvania native does not walk a single batter when he beats the Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers at Eclipse Park, 5-4 and 8-2.

1998 The National Baseball Facility of Ireland, considered the primary home of the Irish National baseball team, officially opens in Corkagh Demesne Park in Clondalkin, West Dublin, when US Ambassador Jean Kennedy throws out the ceremonial first pitch. Dodger owner Peter O'Malley played an instrumental role in constructing the diamonds now known as the Fields of Dreams, which includes a regulation-sized adult field and an international standard Little League field.

2006 Nomar Garciaparra ties the major league record for being hit by a pitch in a game as he is plunked three times by three different Diamondback pitchers in a 10-4 Dodger victory. The LA first baseman is the first National Leaguer to equal the mark, literally and figuratively, since April of the 2000 season when Astros outfielder Richard Hidalgo thwacked thrice in a game.
