Dodgers at Mariners, 4:10 PM PDT, TV: MLBN (out-of-market only), ROOTNW, SPNLA
LHP Clayton Kershaw (2-1, 2.65 ERA) pitches for the Dodgers, while LHP Yusei Kikuchi (0-1, 5.28 ERA) does the same for the Mariners. Kershaw’s last start was vintage: one hit and one run allowed over seven innings with no walks and 6 Ks. Kikuchi missed his last start with neck spasms, but he’s apparently recovered. The 29-year-old is in just his second year in MLB after 9 years in the Japanese and Australian leagues, where he compiled a 79-59 W-L record with a very good 2.85 ERA.
Yesterday’s high (and low) lights:
The Dodgers have recalled RHP Josh Sborz and have placed RHP Pedro Báez on the 10-day injured list with a right groin strain.

Today in Dodgers’ history:
- 1945 Dodger shortstop Tommy Brown becomes the youngest player (17 years, eight months, and 14 days) in major league history to hit a home run. The round-tripper by ‘Buckshot,’ who started his career as a 16 year-old high school student, will be the only run Brooklyn scores off 30 year-old Pirates southpaw Preacher Roe, who goes the distance in the 11-1 rout of the home team at Ebbets Field.
- 1974 In an 18-8 rout of the Cubs, the Dodgers collect 24 hits and set a club record with 48 total bases, including Davey Lopes’ three home runs, double, and single. The Dodger second baseman’s 15 total bases are the most ever for a leadoff hitter.
- 1978 In the visitors’ clubhouse at Shea Stadium, Dodger Blue becomes black and blue when Steve Garvey confronts teammate Don Sutton about a Washington Post story in which the pitcher is critical of him. After the right-hander confirms he had made the comments, the argument becomes physical when he makes an inappropriate remark about the first baseman’s wife.

Yahoo!
Seems like Dodger hitters are eager to see Clayton pitch some more with those quick outs.
#22 is #2 for Dodger pitching K’s.
A base hit here wouldn’t go amiss.

Almost feel bad fixing my spelling mistake because it messes with your perfect response!
A semi-Canadian band, of course.
The Kershaw curve looks on target today. He just tied Drysdale for 2nd-most Ks with 2,486.
Mookie Betts, hitting coach.
From the same article:
Dodgers win!
Kershaw was fantastic.
Woo-HOO!!!
Bell Ringer!
Cody!!!
That was fun to watch. Seattle are not the best hitting team of all time or even this season – but that was still wonderful pitching by Kershaw.
They hit pretty good last night. There’s some talent there.
Most of the K’s were against the bottom 3 hitters. Less talent down at that end of the lineup.
Nice day’s work.
I miss when the manager had to decide when to pinch hit for the pitcher. MLB ads say DH adds more strategy, which is bosta total.
Hasn’t crossed my mind once.
I guess since starters haven’t been going long in any event, yet.
Kershaw still with relatively low pitch count at 96 through seven.
From three balls to two more Ks!
Rox have lost (yay!) to Asterisks (boo!), so Dodgers can gain a game there. Pads leading early v. Llaneros, while Snakes/Gnats play later.
A very efficient 13 pitches per inning for Clayton.
Bye bye Big Bro!
Those walks last inning reminded of this game from last summer:

Kershaw’s slider is unreal today.
The curve is working alright as well. He is dominant right now.
Looking good! Hopefully we can avoid the sweep.
So you consider these 4 games against Seattle as 2 different mini-series. I still am confused how to view it.
Just view it however you want. You could be wrong, but so what. It’s like counting WP and PB with no one on base.
Totally fair. But I was thinking about Dodgers record in series this season and whether it would have been considered a 2-2 split or 2-0 sweep if they lost today’s game.
Sweep.
Just because it’s 2 games instead of 3 or 4 doesn’t mean that it isn’t a series. Now 1 would be weird.
One of the beat writers characterized it as a 3-4 home and home series, so you are not alone.
That was a lot of pitches by Seattle pitchers for the Dodgers to get just one run!
Scoop, are you with us? Hope you didn’t have to leave home.
Thinking about him today as well!
That’s better, Cody.
Small ball!
Well, Beaty did fail to get the bunt down.
That’s tiny ball.
Kikuchi actually looks pretty good.
And keeping his cool.
Beaty benefits on blue’s missed K.
Barnes running home! I always forget how fast he is.
Kikuchi robbed of strike three twice and Beaty makes him pay.
Now I think Beatty foul tipped strike three. I wasn’t sure before.
I think he missed it completely.
Clearly missed it.
Oh, I do too and thought it was good to move the runners along. But based on the result, I changed my mind.
Got it. I missed the wink.
I was wearing a mask
Barnes gets the walk.
So, does Beaty bunt?
We’re not wasting any time at the plate, are we? So much for forcing a walk…
Mutts’ games today and tomorrow canceled by COVID.
Public enemy number one.
