Rockies at Dodgers, 7:10 PM PDT, TV: ATT Sportsnet-RM, SPNLA
RHP Chi Chi González (0-6, 8.07 ERA) goes for the Rockies and LHP Julio Urias (4-3, 2.53 ERA) pitches for the Dodgers. In his last two starts González has lasted a combined five innings and given up 12 runs, ten hits and seven walks. It’s actually even worse: in his last start he gave up seven runs and seven hits in just 2/3 of an inning. Urias will be making just his seventh start of the season. Returning from a suspension, he’s expected to go no more than three innings.
Did you notice the Dodgers hit seven home runs in yesterday’s game?
Today in Dodgers’ history:
- 1917 Grover Cleveland Alexander goes the distance in both games of the Phillies’ doubleheader sweep of Brooklyn at Ebbets Field. In his 18 innings of work, the Philadelphia right-hander limits the Dodgers to seven hits en route to posting 5-0 and 9-3 victories in the twin bill.
- 1978 At Dodger Stadium, Lee Mazzilli becomes the first Mets player to hit a home run from both sides of the plate in a game. The center fielder’s first and seventh inning blasts, respectively hit off southpaw Tommy John and right-hander Charlie Hough, pace the last-place club to an 8-5 victory.
Lineup when available.

Wednesday Wrapup – On balance, a good day yesterday. Yanquis won, but Minute Maids lost, so Dodgers remain 1/2 game behind NYY but are now 1/2 ahead of Houston. Projections give Houston 104.5 wins, NYY 104.3, Dodgers 104.1, so it’s tight for best record in baseball.
Barves (projected 97.7 wins) keeps beating up on bad teams, so Dodgers remain 4-1/2 ahead of them for best in NL. In the division, it’s almost all over, as the magic number over Snakes is Urbie. Gnats are stuck to the flypaper, Friars defrocked, Rox crushed.
“Urbie,” huh?
Common nickname…
NPUT
Martin!!!!!!!!!!!
Future person finally delivers!
Dang, Kiké. Close but no cigar.(Base hit close, not HR close.)
Inadequate future person.
Meanwhile, the magic number is… https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/a18d55226962df627b299e277866734241b5851c06e99ce2f45ec9f80f235f19.png
Ureeeebay!!!!
By the way, we’ve hit 14 round-trippers in the last three games.
It’s become torturous watching Jansen try to save games.
Giving me an ulcer. I really like the guy and want him to succeed.
But in a short series, such as the five-game NLDS, one bad outing by our closer could prove fatal (metaphorically speaking).
Thus, the ulcer.
nice comeback win
Yessiree
Woo-HOO!!! And Phew!!!
Opposing hitters must be licking their chops when Kenley’s pitching.
Dodgers need him, though.
They need him to be good, not like this.
An out for a run. I’ll take that.
i’ll accept a groundout
Ground out = heart attack.
He needs a shrink. Or I do.
nervous
Kenley has become our Stanhouse.
There’s one.
Pleeease do well here, Kenley.
Three-run lead safe enough for Kenley?
The ERAs of so many of the Rockies’ pitchers are astronomical, or at least a mile high.
JT!!!!!!
It took a while for you future people to warm up tonight.
I am going to see if the free baseball channel will pick up the bottom of the 9th, which it often does on close West Coast games.
Kolarek time?
He pitched earlier, to one batter.
Ah, I missed that. Thanks.
Oh man. Get the third out, please.
Your wish has been granted.
I don’t like Arenado being the potential tying run.
Yikes. Good point.
Blackmun looks marginally homeless but the guy sure can hit.
The Snakes hung on against the Pads, 2-1, so magic number can only drop to 5.
I wish the Padres would steal at least one from them.
What the Dodgers thought of the first Rockies reliever: “Pshaw!”
In play run(s) is like reaching into a bag of candy on Halloween when you’re a kid. You’re going to get something good.
“Runs” is Mounds bars or Reese’s cups.
Yes, and add Almond Joy to that twosome.
Almond Joy is my favorite but hard to find in Halloween size…
Sad, but true.
I’ve seen it in Halloween size, but I prefer Endangered Species dark chocolate with sea salt and almonds.
Joe says, “It’s senior night at the ballpark!”
Funny, they both look like kids to me…
I mean, please. Seniors? Only Joe (32) could get away with that.
Freese!!!!!!

in play (runs)
I was hoping for some, pleased for 3
Wow, Russell. Way to go!
OK, future people, get to work!
How far behind are you on the play-by-play?
On the so-called SmartTV, quite a bit. Not so much when I use the iPad, but its screen is much smaller.
I am no fan of watching baseball on a real small screen. When I was a little kid our first TV set was a nine-inch black and white.
Other things being equal, I prefer the larger screen, but the iPad is much sharper than the TV.
i’d be up for an SB here.
Can’t get rid of this guy. Sheesh.
The sound has gone out on my TV feed. Anybody else with the same issue?
This is getting distressing.
Tedious, but hardly distressing.
To each his own.
Chichi pitching the game of his life. He appeared to be arguing forcefully to stay in.
Jedd Gyorko sounds like something that would be found in the bar scene in the first Star Wars film.
I think Garcia is pitching himself off a spot on the post-season roster.
Yimi’s getting a fair audition, and he’s failing it. He was always borderline at best.
Agreed. I think Sadler has moved ahead of him.
Floro’s looked very good tonight.
Also ahead of Garcia, IMHO.
Floro really sharp.
That homer was the 35th hit allowed by Yimi this season, 15 of them home runs. That’s 42.9 percent. Remarkable. The next time the Dodgers have a player in the home run derby, he should be on the mound.
Haha.
No gopher balls, Yimi.
Too late.
I guess he doesn’t read Link’s blog.
What did I say about him or about gopher balls?
You didn’t say anything about him or gopher balls. It was me. I was referring to my plaintiff plea above imploring Yimi not to throw any gopher balls.
Ah, gotcha.
Seriously!?! We have not had one hit off this guy!
Did we use up all our hits last night?
Two short innings for Julio.
The Nats (gnot the Gnats) scored seven in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Mutts 11-10. NYM had scored five in the top of the ninth.
Rockies score first again.
Need any beer glasses? How about ones etched with an overhead view of your favorite ballpark?
If the Dodgers smash the Rox again, the Gnats will be mathematically eliminated from the NL West.

Good for them.
Joc, post-game yesterday:
Also from the same article:
Doubtful he’ll play today, even with a bat on fire and a righty going.
George Springer of the Minute Maids just had a confrontation with the centerfield fence in Milwaukee, and was carted off the field. He caught the ball but slid in the wall and, it looked to me, he twisted his neck. He stood up, but it took him several minutes.
Chi Chi Gonzalez should become an opener’
Or a golfer on the pro tour.
