Giants at Dodgers, 7:10 PM PDT, TV: NBCS Bay Area, SPNLA
LHP Madison Bumgarner (3-6, 3.87 ERA) goes for the Giants in the final game of the series tonight. He’ll face the Dodgers’ young LHP Julio Urias (3-2, 3.05 ERA). Bumgarner may be pitching for the last time against the Dodgers as a Giant; he’s the subject of many trade rumors. Urias has been pitching in relief since mid-April, but he went five scoreless innings in a game he started against the Giants on April 1.
Hill is headed for the IL. He’ll have an MRI today to examine his forearm “discomfort.”
Four of CT3’s seven HRs this year have come off the Giants’ Pomeranz. Here are the two he hit last night:
Today in Dodgers’ history:
- 2008 In recognition of their significant contributions to the community, the Dodgers become the first sports franchise to be honored by the Hollywood Historic Trust and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The team receives an Award of Excellence star, which is placed in the Walk of Fame, which includes a constellation of celebrities, real and fictional, who have had a major impact on the entertainment industry.
- 2009 Jeff Weaver beats his kid brother Jered when the visiting Dodgers best the Halos, 6-5, at Angel Stadium. The Northridge, California natives become the eighth set of siblings in major league history to start against one another.

It was 6-0 when I went to bed. At least I’m comforted to know that it was mostly AAA guys only up for a short holiday in the bigs.
Ummm. Kenley?
I missed another one-run game against the giants! Can’t wait to go through the comments.
Same here
Holy cow. Last I knew it was 7-2. Take the dinner plates out to the kitchen, turn on the game and WHAT?!? 9-8 with two on and no outs in the ninth?
Glad we hung on.
I hope Walker Buehler goes at least 8 1/3 tomorrow.
all 9 on 90 pitches would be even better
Easy win? , well we had 16 hits and didn’t even have to bat in the 9th 🙂
Glad that wasn’t a playoff game. None of us would have hair or fingernails left.
Woo-PHEW!!!
phew and phew
Well that was not the easiest win ever.
Dodgers win!!
one more
Verdugo. Phew.
Experienced 1B Joc makes the play!
Not according to Steiner. He and Monday attributed it to Bellinger.
No video now, and that’s what Gameday told me (also I wouldn’t trust Steiner without independent confirmation).
I’m not doubting you of course. I’m doubting Steiner.
Although – in the end – I guess Steiner was correct. Apparently at some point in the ninth Joc and Belli switched positions.
possibly just in time
No eyes, but according to gameday it was Bellinger

Time for the pitcher’s very best friend. The triple play.
Ha!
Can we get Kelly in there instead?
I’m joking. I want Báez.
Let’s not blow this, guys.
for something different, lets try some outs
OK, Ok, that will do
From 0 to 18.00 ERA in two innings? Yikes, Sborz.
He had two strikes on all three hitters in the ninth.
Still doing better than the other J Sborz. ERA of 67.50
This isn’t what I signed up for.
What did you sign up for?
A 1-2-3 ninth.
Fair enough. I guess it’s more like the lottery. You buy your ticket and take your chances.
Just get the win Dodgers. Close this one out now.
Josh Sborz already pitching better than Jay Sborz. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/sborzja01.shtml
Joc with the play at first. His first at first.
Dodgers at +20 in run differential at this point in this series.
Joc! 20!
As of right now, I see a trend over the last 3 games. 9-0 Dodgers. 9-2 Dodgers. 9-4 Dodgers. San Fran must be so excited that they are getting closer each night.
Too close for comfort, as it turns out!
Jocularity!!
Silly Giants. Cutting into the Dodgers run differential.
Not for long, though…
Just joined in watching. Jinx. Should I leave again?
Sweet night for Garlick.
Good inning. Could have been even more but I am not complaining.
Could not happen to a better person.
Absolute madness against Madison.
Bottom of the order beat up on him.
So much for BadGums!
Keep. It. Going.
Barnes!!! 5-0!!
Dodgers starting to push Bumgarner around a bit.
BadGums’s trade value is sinking fast.
Garlick just hooked one foul earlier in the AB but is able to find another pitch to his liking.
Smoked by Garlick!
Garlick!!!
CT3 has really come alive.
Thought Urias might go another inning. But pitched well in his three innings.
Oh well. At least he threw more pitches than Urias through the first inning.
Make it 3-0 again tonight CT3
Max and MadBum continue their disagreements.
Entering tonight’s game, the Busted Poseur is on a pace for 6.75 HR and 40.5 RBI.
Lat’d from earlier today:
I’m hoping that tonight’s Dodger victory will make yesterday’s look like a pitchers’ duel. Then I hope the loathsome BadGums will get traded to the equally loathsome Yanquis. who’ll force him to shave his beard off.
At The Athletic, Grant Brisbee looks back on Bumgarner versus Dodgers over his career:
The commenters to that post have memories (possibly false) that Bumgarner always seemed to face Kershaw, and the Giants have never hit very well against him. That partially explains his W-L record against the Dodgers, they think.
Rockies just finished three-game sweep of Diamondbacks in Arizona, 6-4, in 10 innings. Colorado scored one in the 9th to tie, two in the 10th to win. Diamondbacks loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the 10th but failed to score.
Just a day of rest for Bellinger or something else? He is 4-for-17 in his career vs. Bumgarner with 1 homer and two walks and two strikeouts.
Apparently scheduled off day.
Personnel news.
Hill’s injury and resultant bullpen game after the first inning wound up costing Beaty his MLB gig.
Yeah, but if plans are to have Joc play first when Pollock comes back, he was on borrowed time anyway.
The Mets fired their pitching coach,Dave Eiland, today. His replacement? Old (and I do mean old) friend Phil Regan. Yes, the Vulture is back, 82 years young. Fun fact – Regan first pitched in the majors in 1960, two years before the Mets existed.
If Rich Hill goes to the IL, which is likely, it will be interesting to see the corresponding move. Obvious would be to move Urias or Stripling into the rotation, but is the bullpen arm then just reactivating Alexander or recalling Chargois? Seems time to try something fresh.
Hill is lobbying for protective netting. He’s advocating it extend far beyond the outfield end of each dugout, where Dodger Stadium’s nets stop.
