Dodgers at Rockies, 12:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, ROOTSRM
The Dodgers ask Kenta Maeda (0-1, 5.40 ERA) to keep the Rockies in check while they try to solve yet another lefthanded pitcher, this one named Tyler Anderson (1-0, 7.94 ERA). So far this season they’re 0-2 against lefties; they were 22-24 against them last year. Maeda is 2-2 lifetime against the Rockies; Anderson is 2-0 in three lifetime starts against the Dodgers.

Apparently, Brandon Crawford’s hair caught on fire: https://twitter.com/extrabaggs/status/851495904209100800
Covering up for the Gnatpen, apparently… https://twitter.com/JanieMcCAP/status/851482390937468929
People are saying…that the Gnatpen started it: http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2014/03/11/huge-fire-burn-san-francisco-building-under-construction-near-att-park/
Gnatpen tried, but couldn’t quite get the job done. MVP (Most Vapid Pitcher) Melancon put tying runs on in ninth, but mistakenly got a GIDP out of Wil Myers.
From ESPN: “Pedro Baez (strained right thumb) allowed two runs over two-thirds of an inning Saturday at Triple-A Oklahoma City during his second rehab appearance. He could be ready for the upcoming series in Chicago.”
Fans unfamiliar with Baez, mistake his slow delivery for a rain delay and head for cover and concession stands during his outing.
Old friend Zach Lee is being brought up by the Padres, as a possible starter in place of Trevor Cahill.
The Gnatpen’s going to work! Dinger and a walk with nobody out in the eighth.
Winning is nice. A few bumps (cough Jansen) but good to win this one.
By the way, Toles’s grounder was retroactively scored a hit rather than an error.
Quite rightly.
Woo-HOO!!!
These are some confusing outs (and non-outs) out there.
Meanwhile, at the Masters, Rose and Garcia are tied at -9 with four holes to go. Nobody else is within 3 strokes.
Pete may be quite a golfer, but does he bet on the matches?
Go Garcia!
71 majors, no titles. Best player never to have won…blah blah blah.
Now 5-2 in SD in sixth, Pads looking to get into Gnatpen.
Fine inning by Avilan. Now I see why Roberts let him bat for himself with two on and two outs.
Really fine outing by Avilán.
Barnes’ two hits today are the first by a Dodgers catcher since opening day.
Had Luis gotten a hit there this inning would have been an Avilanche of scoring.
Great at bat by Joc.
Way to go Gonzo!
Yes! AGon!
Umpires better not taketh away again.
Rockies taketh away, Rockies giveth back.
Umpires taketh away…
Better.
Ha!
The well deserved 7th run.
Or not.
We need Puig to get at least a sac fly here.
So frustrating. Shoulda already had that run.
Wow. Clearly Corey was there in time. Bad call.
Hot take: replay doesn’t work! Lol.
Roberts arguing Corey caught 3rd before the ball went into the dugout.
It looked like it to me.
Me, too.
Oh look, the Giants lead the Padres 5-0 in the fifth.
Maybe the bullpen can have an epic collapse.
The Gnats bullpen? Nah… oh, wait.
Even so, if they go 2-5 every week, that’ll be fine.
What was Toles thinking there?
Running hard on contact. Didn’t have a prayer.
They robbed Toles of the ribby. Called it an error.
Should still be a ribby.
I didn’t know that!
Speed is a helpful thing. Barnes was motoring there.
And unlike Puig yesterday, he didn’t admire it and then figure out it would be in play.
Toles, great hit and RBI!
A more Coors-like game?
Four-Sides starting to earn his salary.
Barnes looking over matched so far this early season.
For whatever reason, I’m not finding myself as drawn into this season as the last few years. I’m hopeful that it changes soon.
I am feeling the same way. After four straight years of winning the West, and then failing to even reach the World Series once, I am feeling a bit self-protective about leading with my heart again when it comes to the Dodgers.
I know this shouldn’t be the case, but I have the feeling that the regular season is a mere formality to gain entrance to the post season for the Dodgers. And then also the part where the post season is set up for maximum pain and heartbreak.
The season is young. Pace yourself.
Wise advice. I will do my best to live in to it.
So far they’re solving this lefty.
Fred Claire is remembered as the architect of the ’88 team by Plaschke in a column today. Claire has jaw and neck cancer.
It’s great that a new season is here. Nice to read the comments of my old friends, none of whom I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I flew down from the Monterey Peninsula to go to the opener with two boyhood friends; it’s an annual tradition. It was a great day all-around, including a reunion with some of the guys with whom I attended a few Dodgers fantasy camps in Vero Beach. The big question to each of you out there is: Can you hit left-handed pitching? Be well.
In slow pitch, yes.
I look like a Dodger when I hit against a lefty.
Absolutely! In my dreams…
