Padres at Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, FSSD
The Padres’ righthander Trevor Cahill makes his first start of the season against the team he’s faced more often than any other in the big leagues: he’s pitched against the Dodgers 20 times with a 6-5 record and a 3.86 ERA. He spent the last two years with the Cubs and went 4-4 in 50 games with a 2.74 ERA in 65 innings. He hasn’t been a full-time starter since 2014.
The Dodgers will counter with lefty Rich Hill, who signed a three-year $48M contract after coming over from the As at the trade deadline last year. He pitched well for the Dodgers despite ongoing blister problems, going 3-2 with a 1.83 ERA in six starts.

I’m not sure Link has realized today’s game starts in about 20 minutes.
Ahem. Always check the home page, not just the most recent post you’ve been commenting on. Or check the sidebar under “Recent Posts.” The new Game Thread went up at noon PT.
So, I posted that before you did, postulating that you Hawaiians are late sleepers.
Well, except that I wrote it last night and scheduled it for automatic posting at 0800PST. 😉
Nats looked good last night with a deeper lineup and Harper coming through. They have an excellent starting five, but not much depth there. They missed out on the Jansen sweepstakes, but pen looks strong overall, as well. Old friend Blanton threw in relief. The Nats ended up getting him for same one year $4 million contract that he had with the Dodgers. We ended up with Romo at one year $3 million as somewhat of a substitute, though not sure that Romo will perform at same level as a set up guy. Dodgers don’t come to town until mid-September, but should be a nice series with division crowns on the line and as a prelude to another October matchup with them.
I don’t think the Dodgers view Romo, strictly speaking, as Blanton’s replacement – rather, they others such as Wood and Dayton in more high profile roles. Romo was not impressive last night, but he got away with some mistakes.
Certainly agree. Romo acquisition seemed more like having another warm arm in the pen.

Banned! Politics!
Glad to see the Dodgers are back on the win side. I went to bed shortly after Puig’s HR.
Woo-HOO!!! Better late…
Gnats go 1-2-3 in ninth, fatally bitten by Snakes,
We win!
How sweet it is!

Kenley time.
So – was Hill labouring in his last inning? Curious as to why he only went 5 innings and 75 pitches.
He looked OK. Never would have been pulled later in the season. Recall that he was a little behind the other starters in ST because of some very short early stints.
OK – yeah that makes sense.
He didn’t look his sharpest to me, though by no means bad.
Forgot to mention he got HBP’d on the right hand. X-rays were negative.
Nice to see (or hear actually) the Dodgers rolling along so far tonight.
Make that 8-4 Snakes in the seventh.
Sounds good to me!
Snakes have taken 6-4 lead over Gnats in sixth.
6-4 now!
Gnats have blown a three-run lead in AZ, now tied bottom of sixth.
Puig!
Is Wil Myers the new Dick Stuart?
Dr. Strangeglove!
Saw him hit a dinger in DS in his one year with the Dodgers.
Dodgers face another mediocre starter, but at least he’s not a lefty.
Off to see Nats-Fish. Will give yawl’s regards to Dee and AJ.
I’d like to have seen that ball park while I was there last fall.
Yeah, sorry you arrived a little bit too late to take in the playoff game together!
In 1993, I attended a pre-season exhibition at RFK between the Redbirds and the Orangebirds. It snowed that morning.
