  1. Arizona beat San Diego 7-5, in 10 innings. The Dodgers now lead by 7 1/2 games again,

  2. Meanwhile, Oakland scored 19 runs at home today, which means that is one for about every 100 fans. Baltimore had 8.

  3. Woo-HOO! Once again I tuned in in time for the winning runs to come in. Great game!

  4. Vargas has got to play everyday. And Lux needs to play everyday at OKC.

  5. We haven't led a game wire to wire since the 4-0 win over the White Sox on June 26. Today marks eight in a row.

  6. I have a bad feeling that 3 runs is not going to be enough to win this game.

  7. A lot of people don't like the new Dodger City Connect uniforms. I don't think they are all that bad. I don't care for the cut off numbers on the back. Not sure what it means or the sense in it. Definitely not the worst I've seen. Should only wear them once a month however.

  8. The Guardians just beat the Giants, 5-4, in Cleveland. The Padres play host to the Diamondbacks tonight.

  9. Brewers (52-37)
    Dodgers (54-35)

    SP Freddy Peralta R
    6-4 3.83 ERA
    vs
    SP James Paxton L
    7-2 4.28 ERA

    Lineup:
    DH S. Ohtani L
    C Will Smith R
    1B F. Freeman L
    LF T. Hernandez R
    RF Andy Pages R
    CF James Outman L
    SS Miguel Rojas R
    2B Gavin Lux L
    3B Chris Taylor R

    • I would have started Vargas at second over Lux, regardless of the lefty-righty platooning. In limited appearances, Vargas is hitting .240 vs. righties this season; in far more appearances, Lux is hitting .213 against righties. Also, let's see how Outman does in his first game back.

      • Yep Scoop, I would have tried to keep Vargas in the lineup. I would have given Vargas the start at 3B and moved Taylor to start at 2B. I too am hoping Outman kind find his groove.

        • OD: I would have been OK with Vargas at third, but he has far more experience at second. Outman was hitting .279 at OKC with nine homers in 38 games.

          • Actually Scoop, I would have DFA'ed Biggio and brought up Lipcius to play 3B. Start Taylor or Kike at 2B.

          • Lipcius — sounds like a Roman Centurion — is hitting .291 with 19 HRs and 63 RBIs for OKC in 80 games. He is priarily a third baseman and seems ready to me.

  10. Today in Dodgers History
    July 6th

1953 In his first major league start, 24-year-old right-hander Al Worthington throws a two-hitter, blanking the Phillies, 6-0. The Giants' rookie, known as 'Red,' will become the first National League freshman to throw consecutive shutouts at the start of a career when he repeats the feat in his next outing, blanking the Dodgers, 6-0.

2000 Vin Scully, 72, is voted the No. 1 sportscaster of the 20th century by members of the American Sportscasters Association. The Dodger veteran broadcaster's 51-year career has included play-by-play of 25 Fall Classics and a dozen All-Star Games.

    • With the death last month of Willie Mays, Al Worthington and Joey Amalfitano are the only two members of the Giants' 1954 World Series championship team who are still alive. Amaliftano (90), because of the bonus baby in effect then, had to waste two entire seasons on the Giants' bench. In 1954 he appeared in nine games and went 0-for-5. In 1955 he appeared in 36 games in 1955 and went 5-for-22. He didn't return to the majors until 1960. He managed the Cubs for parts of four seasons. Amalfitano was the third-base coach for the Dodgers in 1988 when Kirk Gibson hit his monumental home run in the first game of the World Series. Here is a long and interesting story about Worthington, who is now 95:
