  1. It’s got to be close to Snell’s bed time right? Doesn’t he usually only go 5 or 6 innings?

  2. Smell has a history of high pitch counts, rarely goes more than six innings, has never gone beyond eighth.

  3. Thank you Mr Paxton. You have been a worthy contestant. And now the lovely Carol Merrill will show you your parting gifts behind door #3.

  4. Must be very rare for a winning pitcher to be DFAed the next day, but is testament to the glut of pitchers due to come back to the Bigs soon coupled with the need to get a new guy on the roster to pitch right now. River to be the sixth rookie starter for the Dodgers this season (Yamamoto counts).

      • They apparently calculated that by the time his turn came around again there wouldn’t be any room so might as well do it now to have an arm for tonight.

      • I am surprised as well. Only one pitcher on the Dodgers, Stone, has more wins than Paxton, 9-8. Glasnow also has 8 wins.

  5. Dodgers up 8.5 on Fryers, 9.0 on Snakes, 12.0 on Gnats (who're closer to last place than first).

    • Best signing of the year for the Dodgers. Lol Well, better than Paxton anyway I guess.

      Too soon Dave. Too soon.

    • Home runs are fabulous, and always welcome – but a clean single up the middle seems more repeatable and reliable.

  6. Joe Davis: “You might not see Phillips today.”
Me: I think I’m okay with that.

    • Especially since Ohtani won’t be a full time DH next year, what with the pitching and all.

  7. Southpaw Vesia at ERA 1.23 is in Kuo territory, who had 1.20 in 60 innings in 2010.

  8. Can the Dodgers overcome the Gnats' Smell tonight? After horrendous start to the season, his last couple games have been pretty good.

  9. Wow. I was shocked to hear they DFA’d Paxton. I would have thought it would be Biggio if anyone. Something is brewing..

1913 In a game against the Superbas (Dodgers), Slim Sallee becomes the first pitcher in Cardinal history to steal home. In the third inning, the Redbird southpaw scores the first run in St. Louis's 3-1 victory over Brooklyn at Ebbets Field.

1966 The Mets left fielder learns he is a new dad when the Dodger Stadium scoreboard relays the message, "Congratulations, Ron Swoboda. Your new son is born tomorrow morning". Cecilia Swoboda gave birth to Chipper, the couple's first child, at 12:02 am eastern standard time, making it the next day on the West Coast.

2005 Yhency Brazoban records his 18th save when he works a perfect ninth inning as the Dodgers beat the Mets, 6-5. The Los Angeles freshman, who is filling in for injured closer Eric Gagne, breaks Steve Howe's club rookie record for saves established in 1980.
