  1. Yankees scored four in the top of the 9th off Giants’ closer Doval and won, 7-5.

  2. Well, the Rocky Mountains do extend into British Bolivia (I stole that one from the editors of National Lampoon, who came from Toronto).

  3. Very sorry to hear about Steve. I will contact his sister soon.

I'm presently in port at Ketchikan, on the ferry. For some incomprehensible reason, Dodgers and Rox are blacked out in Alaska.

    • Has been pretty much that all season. He suffers from 2023 when he was an average pitcher. So that's what people remember about him. This year his ERA has been under 3.00 since April 15th and is now 1.35.

  4. I am really enjoying this game, as I make granola and putter around the kitchen. Still recovering from my four days of reunion festivities. But I loved every minute of every day.

  5. Barnes is 3-for-25 in his last 10 games, 6 Ks, 2 BBs, 1 run, 1 RBI. These numbers include today.

    • Well, he is obviously not there for his bat. I have resigned myself to the fact that he isn't going away this year.

    • You don't expect a lot of offense from your backup catcher, but he was serviceable for several years. Contract runs out at end of this season.

        • Dodgers have a lot of catching talent in the minors, but you want to develop those guys rather than making them backups. One exception might be Feduccia at OKC, who's hit well, but I know nothing about his D.

    • Would want him to contribute more on the offensive side, of course, but a backup catchers offensive contribution are generally marginal. To have some perspective, he has had less than 50 PA. To reach NL average average of around .240 he would have needed to have two more hits than the nine he has.

    • Barnes offensive woes are greatly magnified by the drop off from Willie.

  6. If I were given administrative privileges for a couple of days along with passwords, I think I could schedule the Posts based on the Dodger schedule.

      • On June 2 in Baseball History…

1935 – Babe Ruth announces his retirement as a player at age 40.

1941 – New York Yankees first baseman Lou Gehrig dies of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis at age 37 in New York. From that time on, the illness is known primarily as Lou Gehrig's Disease.

1942 – Red Sox star Ted Williams enlists as a Navy aviator. He will finish the season with his team, as will many other players who enlist or await draft. Among A.L. regulars of 1941 who are now in the service: Johnny Rigney, Joe Grace, Johnny Berardino, Cecil Travis, Bob Feller, Pat Mullin, Buddy Lewis, Sam Chapman, and Johnny Sturm.

1958 – Yankees pitcher Whitey Ford fans six in a row to tie an A.L.
record as he shuts out the White Sox 3-0.

1987 – The Mariners select Cincinnati high schooler Ken Griffey, Jr., the son of Braves outfielder Ken Griffey, with the first overall pick in the free-agent draft.

1990 – Seattle's Randy Johnson, at six feet ten inches the tallest pitcher in major-league history, pitches the first Mariners' no-hitter, a 2-0 win over the Tigers. He walks six and strikes out eight.

1995 – John Valentin hits three home runs and has five hits in Boston's 6-3 win over the Mariners. His 15 total bases are a season high.

  7. Fryers just blew one big in bottom of ninth at KC. so Dodgers now in position to pick up a game in the standings.

  8. I'd have been more impressed if it hadn't taken Mookie 3 pitches before he hit it out.
