Yankees at Dodgers, 7:10 PM PDT, TV: MLBN (out-of-market only), SPNLA, YES
RHP Luis Severino (0-0, 1.59 ERA) goes for the Yankees and LHP Clayton Kershaw (6-4, 3.32 ERA) goes for the Dodgers. This is just the third appearance for Severino this year; he’s had a lat strain since spring training. Kershaw’s had three uncharacteristically poor starts in a row.
The Dodgers have acquired RHP Ricky Vanasco from the Texas Rangers in exchange for minor league LHP Luis Valdez. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers designated RHP Zack Burdi for assignment.

- 1995 Hideo Nomo, limiting the Mets to one run on two hits in 8+ innings of work, picks up his first major league win, a 2-1 decision at Dodger Stadium. L.A. signed the 26 year-old former Japanese All-Star in the off-season.
- 2021 On the date that marked the beginning of his streak in 1925 and his death of ALS 16 years later in 1941, MLB celebrates the inaugural Lou Gehrig Day, continuing a tradition that began a few seasons ago with the reading of his “I am the luckiest person on Earth” speech. In addition to raising money to find a cure for the dreaded disease, every team will display “4-ALS” logos highlighting the Hall of Famer’s jersey number with players, managers, and coaches wearing a special commemorative patch on their uniforms.
In another game of note, in 2010 after retiring 26 consecutive Cleveland batters, Tigers starter Armando Galarraga appears to have hurled the season’s third perfect game when the throw from the first baseman to the pitcher, covering the bag, clearly beats the batter-runner for the final out. Umpire Jim Joyce emphatically calls Jason Donald safe. After seeing the replay, the first base arbiter tearfully admits his error, apologizing to the 28 year-old Venezuelan pitcher for his blown call.

NPUT
Dodgers win!!
Woo-HOO!!!
Making the bullpen work. Has Almonte been pitching more than one inning?
No.
What we don’t want is to give them new energy for tomorrow’
Bick won’t be around after the All Star break and we get some relievers off the IL.
Huh? He’s been okay.
Not what we wanted, Bickford!
The walk makes it twice as bad.
Oh Phil.
Ouch.
Ok Freddie. Get tomorrow’s game going here early with a hit tonight.
Or save all the hits for tomorrow and Sunday…

Shorter career for Sandy, but quite an accomplishment.
Very cool.
I’ll still take Koufax any day.
Cubbies leading Pads and old friend Dean Kremer leading the Gnats for Baltimore, but Barves not yet doing their part against the Snakes. All games close.
The Yankees are the only team Kershaw’s never beaten,, Joe and Orel tell us. Huh. They’ve played 16 series since interleague play started and split them 8-8. In all those games Kershaw’s not beaten them even once?
Guess not.

May tonight be the night!
Looking good…
Maxy!
You Bettscha!!
Orioles swat Gnats (who fall below .500, where they belong).
In Mike Lupica’s story about the renewal of the longtime rivalry between the Yankees and the Dodgers is this nugget:,
Then they spoil it by mentioning the World Series record (Yankees 8, Dodgers 3).
Kersh beats Yankees
Grove tomorrow.
Yeehaw!
Kersh, 204.
Bick raises his game when the adrenaline gets going.
Jack in the Box for you LA residents tomorrow. Not for me, though.
Cubbies devour Pads 3-2. Orioles gobbling Gnats 3-2 after eight.
Turkeys are birds
Orioles are birds
therefore Orioles gobble?
Insects as dinner.
Young birds just out of the nest are perplexed when first trying to eat insects that just don’t hop into their mouths like they remember them doing back in the nest.
Strange strike zone.
It has been all night, and I have to acknowledge that it’s favored the Dodgers.
At least it is consistent.
Phil asked to close.
Mookie working on player of the month for June.
April Rookie of the month = Outman
May player of the month = Freeman
June player of the month = Betts
Kersh pitcher of the month in April as well.
And now working on June
Amen to that.
Mookie is having quite a night.
Another chance for Freeman
Mookie gives Freddie another shot.
So, who closes this out?
Almonte?
That’s more like it!
Tell me again, is it wise to walk the leadoff hitter?
Old friend Calhoun helps out.
Umm, Almonte? Don’t make me look like a jinx!
He’s been very good recently.
Throw strikes, Almonte.
Strike zone has been wide all night.
Indeed it has.
and low
I didn’t see anybody’s mouth moving calling for the catch
Way to go Kersh….
Yep. Great outing. 9 k’s and only 1 walk.
Just got the grandkids down for the count. Great to see this score!
A day off followed with Kersh going 7 gives the bullpen some rest
Might need some of it tomorrow with Grove pitching.
Easy seventh for Clayton.
Came in late but he looks like he didn’t need my support
one bit!
We can all use your support RBI. LOL
Gets a chance to go 7
And succeeds getting through it.
Ok. One more shutdown inning here Kersh.
Happy to see Max going the other way
Kersh at 2890 k’s for his career.
Freddie’s hit streak in jeopardy. Need the team to keep hitting to give him another at bat.
Mookie! Team HR # 100 on the season.
Mookie loves to pull those down the line and into the stands.
On pace for 45 home runs
Barves blow a golden opportunity in the ninth, lose 3-2 to Snakes.
Eventually the Dbacks are going to lose a few.
7 innings?
Yep
Outman screwed on the 4th pitch…
Ok James. Let’s get a 2 out RBI here.
Max stays with it! That’s how I used to play third.
I knew you played but I don’t think I knew you played third. Did you play other positions regularly as well or mostly third?
I played everything but short and catcher, but I enjoyed third the most.
I stopped playing at the little league level. But third was my favourite as well.
Once I realized I should play even with the bag – to avoid bad hops – it was the most fun.
That makes sense!
I played first base in softball.
Me too. Baseball was my favorite, but, I was not very good. I was better at football and track. Fast runner.
I’ve played more shortstop than any other position and played third eventually. I liked 3rd a lot more than I thought I would.
Dodgers making good contact.
More Wheaties Freddie
Freddie wishes it was still May.
Severino has settled in since the first.
If you ignore JD’s dinger…
Kershaw not shy about giving up the long ball.
He also has seven Ks in four innings.
Moving ever closer to 2900…
Giving one up to Stanton doesn’t put you in elite company, more like in multitudes.
It wasn’t a criticism. I almost feel like walks bother him as much (or more?) than HR’s.
Seems like criticizm would be the better spelling
In Canadian?
They’re woke and don’t use zzzz’s
Solo homers sting and are annoying, but, they don’t kill you.
Might want to mix in some more curve balls.
Rats!!
If it is close tonight, you better be swinging.
jd – just delightful.
JD Boom!!
Slugger
A few more feet traveled than his first hit
Klayton’s getting the benefit of some borderline strikes, to say the least.
I have thought about it.
And I’m ok with that happening.
I too.
When the game began, Severino’s ERA was less than half Kershaw’s. Now it’s almost double.
Why is the radio feed sooo far behind gameday?
It usually is.
speed of sound vs speed of light? 😉
TV feed the same.
https://twitter.com/FabianArdaya/status/1664823340983533570?s=20
That was a terrible hanger, Klayton.
Slider didn’t slide..

Oh James. Wrong way to get out, man.
TOOTBLAN.
Two more runs and the Yankees can put a position player in to pitch
Score early and score often.
What is the projected score?
Ok Freddie. Join the party here.
Woozer!
Mookie!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDcmo-5Qht4
Stone might feel better if he is watching
This is fun!
This is nice.
Let’s go James!
Let’s go James. Keep it rolling.
Ya think our first 3 hitters are good, wait until you see the next 3
Slugger up.
Don’t stop now!
Ha! Infield hit.
I see what you mean
Max!!!
Hot wheels Smith
Nice play by Volpe, but…
Nice plays finish last
He’s safe!
Well, that’s a start!
