Dodgers at Rays, 3:40 PM PDT, TV: Bally Sports Sun, SPNLA
The Dodgers’ RHP Noah Syndergaard (1-3, 5.88 ERA) hopes to win a second consecutive game for the first time this season. In his way is the Rays’ LHP Jalen Beeks (1-2, 4.68 ERA), who’s been in the big leagues since 2018 and has a career record of 15-10 and a 4.15 ERA.
The Dodgers have claimed RHP Zack Burdi from the Tampa Bay Rays and placed RHP Tyler Cyr on the 60-day injured list.

Today in Dodgers’ history:
- 2015 Clayton Kershaw pitched seven innings of four-hit ball and the Dodgers scored six runs in the fourth inning on doubles by Howie Kendrick, Andre Ethier and A.J. Ellis and went on to beat the Atlanta Braves 8-0.
- 2019 Kenta Maeda got his sixth win of the season in a slugfest at PNC Park which the Dodgers won 11-7 over the Pirates.
Also, a very famous game took place on this date in 1959: Pirates’ hurler Harvey Haddix pitches 12 perfect innings but loses 1-0 to the Braves in the 13th inning. The heart-breaking winning run scores on a Don Hoak error, a sacrifice, a walk, and a two-bagger by Joe Adcock. To add insult to injury,
In 1991, the Committee for Statistical Accuracy in Baseball announced that a no-hitter would be redefined as “a game in which a pitcher or pitchers complete a game of nine innings or more without allowing a hit,” meaning Haddix’s gem no longer qualified. When he was made aware that one of the greatest games ever pitched no longer had a place in the record books, his response was simple: “It’s OK. I know what I did.”

Syndergaard has been a whiff. He’s fooled nobody.

Curses, foiled again!
Oh well. Kersh tomorrow.
Close
The Dodgers now know how the Yankees feel about playing the Rays.
Fifteen of Taylor’s 23 hits this season have been for extra bases, including that double.
47 of his 96 outs have been strike outs.
Is this a rally?
TB thinks so.
A first inning type rally.
CT3 with wood.
Wood and leather guy. I think Peralta also made a good play in LF today.

Tie it up James
Earned runs allowed by Syndergaard by start: 1-6-3-2-7-3-0 (1 inning)-2-3-6 (tonight). He no longer has it.
Nope.
The Dodgers have done a great job of rehabilitating pitchers over the last few years. Unfortunately, this may be a failure.
He had a mediocre 2022. His 2023 is well below mediocre, but injuries have depleted Dodgers’ starting pitching.
Yes, so is keeping him in the rotation an act of desperation and/or a necessity? I don’t know.
He at least went 6 innings today.
And that took some pressure off the bullpen.
At present, not many alternatives.
None at hand.
Both, arguably.

Nice D(P) by CT3.
Stay there CT3
Muncy has left eight runners on base today and has joined the group of Dodgers batting under .200 at .199.
He’s a three run home run waiting to happen. Operative word = waiting.
To be fair, he didn’t leave any runners on base yesterday.
I’d sit him for a couple of days. At least Doc dropped him from the cleanup spot.
Waiting for Godot.
He never showed up.
Another shot Max.
CT3 still has the legs and leather!
Great catch in left and still looking good at short.
Thor into the 6th.
If can’t be good, be long.
TEX-Balt is another series underway between top teams in MLB. Old friend Corey with a grand salami.
Need to cash in here.
Looked out.
These Devil Rays are smacking the ball
Will Thor ever have a clean inning?
Creeping back into the game.
First half of the M&M squad comes through.
Nice call by Dino. Not even a throw.
Bring him home Willie.
Nicked the string for the strike.
Stone and Miller looking more and more like locks for the rotation if Syndergaard keeps this up.
Bleh, Baltimore chop.
Muncy thinking about all his choices for the base to throw to.
Too much hop to the chop to get the guy at home.
It would have been a force out though.
Would not have been an easy play at that point with the runner that far down the line.
Plus Smith with glove on left hand and standing to right of home gave Muncy a smaller target
Syndergaard did better covering first.
Another first inning rally missed.
How many others have there been?
First blood.
Old friend Raley
Let’s hope he gets to pitch again – in identical circumstances.
It’s satisfying to see the Devil Rays in their rightful jerseys.
I have hopes the Rays will relocate to Portland, OR. Call them the Rayndrops or just the Rayns.
