Dodgers at Mets, 4:10 PM PDT, TV: MLBN (out-of-market only), SNY, SPNLA
LHP Tyler Anderson (13-2, 2.69 ERA) pitches for the Dodgers and RHP Jacob DeGrom (3-1, 2.15 ERA) pitches for the Mets.
On this date in Dodgers’ history:
- 1950 In front of 14,226 fans at Ebbets Field, Gil Hodges becomes the fourth major leaguer in the century to hit four home runs in one game as Brooklyn routs the Braves, 19-3. The Dodger first baseman also ties the major league record for total bases with 17.
- 1959 Sandy Koufax fans 18 batters to establish a new National League record for a nine-inning game in the Dodgers’ 5-2 win over San Francisco at the LA Memorial Coliseum. The left-hander’s performance equals the major league mark established in 1938 by Indians fireballer Bob Feller during a 4-1 loss to Detroit.
- 2010 The Dodgers trade a player to be named (infielder Tony Abreu) to the Diamondbacks in exchange for starter Jon Garland. The 31 year-old right-hander will post a 3-2 record with a 2.72 ERA in his six late-season starts for the Dodgers, before signing as a free agent with San Diego.

Pads hang on barely to beat the Gnats 5-4, Dodgers’ magic number over the Paddies remains 14; over the Snakes 6, over the Gnats, 5. SF likely to be eliminated before Labor Day.
In the race for best record, the figure is 24 over the Mutts, and the Barves 22.
After tonight’s games, obviously, the above figures may change.
Monday: Padres led 6-2, Giants rallied to lose 6-5.
Tuesday: Padres led 4-0, Giants rallied to lose 4-3.
Today: Padres led 5-0, Giants rallied to lose 5-4.
The Gnats have just taken sole possession of fourth place.
Last year they would have won at least 2 of them.
Trayce benched again for Gallo.
So, Trayce is mashing righties to the tune of a 1.134 OPS.
He’s wrapped up a spot on the post-season roster. Others are auditioning.
In terms of standings, these games are not important. In terms of player development, they are.
Lefty/righty deal, but really? What’s the over/under on how many times Gallo will fan? Bellinger?
Oh well. Whip’em tomorrow.
That’s the game. One awesome catch away from a tie.
Two outs. Right where we like to be.
He should have played Taps cause Dodgers gonna score
That was an awesome strikeout. An 87 mph pitch 3 inches above the strike zone followed by a changeup that drops from 3 inches above the strike zone into the top of the strike zone. Froze the hitter.
Good job Tyler.
More than good enough to win on most nights, but facing deGrom is something else.
Weird that Anderson might be auditioning for a start in the playoffs. It seems like all I see is Urias, Kershaw, Gonsolin, and May as playoff starter leaving Anderson as a reliever.
He is making a great case for himself.
This feels like playoff baseball.
My then-team against my now-team.
I know what you mean, I used to root for Brooklyn.
Growing up on the West Coast, I’ve been a Dodger fan since 1956, but much more so after they moved to LA and I could hear Vin at night in Tacoma.
Muncy jobbed by the ump and JT robbed by Nimmo.
Holy moly what a catch!
My wife and I watch Holey Moley. We find it funny. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holey_Moley
Anderson holding his own.
Just one bad change up to Marte.
At least we are in the board.
OK, Tyler, that’s enough!
