Dodgers at Reds, 3:40 PM PDT, TV: Bally Sports Ohio, SPNLA
LHP Tyler Anderson (8-0, 2.82 ERA) is the second undefeated pitcher the Dodgers can throw at their opponents along with Gonsolin; he’ll face the Reds’ RHP Luis Castillo (2-4, 3.33 ERA). In his past six outings, Castillo is 2-3 with a 2.72 ERA and has made four straight quality starts. Castillo has given previous Dodgers teams fits:
Castillo will face the Dodgers for the first time since tossing 6 1/3 shutout innings on Sept. 17, 2021, and earning a 3-1 victory. Lifetime in four starts vs. Los Angeles, Castillo is 3-0 with a 1.90 ERA and a .195 opponents’ batting average.
In 10 starts, Anderson has pitched through or past the fifth inning eight times. He has a season average of 5.2 frames per outing, and he has earned a quality start five times in those 10 starts.
The Dodgers haven’t won more than two games in a row since late May, the LA Times tells us.
Today in Dodgers’ history:
- 1936 At Brooklyn’s Ebbets Field, Ival Goodman hits an unusual home run when his fifth-inning fly ball lands and stays on top of the scoreboard in right field. With the perched ball considered in play, the three Dodger outfielders watch the Reds’ right fielder round the bases for an easy inside-the park round-tripper in their 7-2 loss to Cincinnati.
- 1947 After pitching a no-hitter four days ago against the Braves, Reds hurler Ewell Blackwell loses his chance for a second consecutive no-hitter when Dodger second baseman Eddie Stanky singles with one out the ninth inning at Crosley Field.
- 1959 Sandy Koufax goes the distance, beating Philadelphia at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum, 6-2. The Dodger southpaw fans 16 Phillies to set a new record for strikeouts in a night game.
- 1966 At the Astrodome, Houston sets a home attendance mark which will last for 22 years. Dodger southpaw Sandy Koufax, who tosses a complete game to improve his record to 13-2, beats the hometown team, 5-2, in front of the 50,908 fans attending the Wednesday contest.

Trayce continues to Pillar it. I expect his tenure will be a brief one.
Doubly stung.
By a former Gnat who was briefly in the Dodgers system (81 games at OKC in 2018).

We may have to wait a while for this one. Meanwhile, at the SD Litterbox, BadGums has melted down early and the Snakes trail the Pads 6-1 in the third. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/58194208ac2a08eb0bb7a5f7ffee88a3bb16597ba3fae5cdd3607f87883211dc.jpg
Underway with Trea K.
Ugh, Freddie K.
Forecast looking a bit better now.
Braves win 4-3.
*Gnats lose 4-3.
In the end, the Gnats blew it to the Barves.
Good game!!
Meanwhile in Georgia, Gnats have blown a two-run lead in the ninth. Tied 3-3 with one out and a runner on first.
Max Shrock, or Max Schreck? https://www2.bfi.org.uk/news-opinion/news-bfi/features/max-schreck-born-this-day-1879
Yippee!
Woo-HOO!!!
On consecutive identical pitches, ball three and strike three.
Thankfully Trayce playing RF and not Alvarez.
Okay Kimbrel. One double and three quick outs.
Thanks.
Speaking of sac flies, my slow-pitch team once had three in the same inning.
Okay, Kimbrel. Three quick outs.
Belli K’s now replaced with Belli ground balls.
Get the runners over Chris.
Nope. Not this time.
Sigh.
Good job Trea
Almost Kimbrel proof.
Sweet. Way to go Trayce.
The anti-Pillar?
Trayce pillared that one!
Way to go, Thompson!
Almonte has been a pleasant surprise, given his limited success with the Rox (OK, it’s Coors, Jake).
Apparently it was Jake McGee who told him that the Dodger organization could fix him.
Do the Freddie..
Rarely done without runners on.
Usually with a full complement. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdnyvtGP-Gg
CT3 throws out Indio.

Should be able to score on the Reds bullpen. They are not that good.
Nice CT3!
I step out of the room for a couple minutes, and look what happens!
Oh for Pete’s sake.
Belli should not have tried to pull that pitch.
Castillo ain’t long for this game.
As tryouts go, not exactly impressing Friedman.
Sac fly! Good work, JT.
Come on JT.
HBP wrks, too!
Painful way to tie it up.
CT3 takes one for the team.
How about a WP just to shake everyone up?
Come on Muncy. That had hit written all over it.
Took the walk.
I would have chosen the BB over the HBP as well.
Muncy, see Taylor.
Hustle double, to third on an infield chopper, scored on a soft hit to CF. Not so hard when it happens.
Freeman to third on another single…
I love how Freeman hits it where they aren’t.
You misspelled “ain’t.”
It was a conscious decision!
I am your proofreader.
Except when you ain’t…
Willie Keeler established the rule.
I’m thinking of all the words you would change to your spellings.
Freddie. Again.
Run
Lux isn’t much slower than Trea.
Actually faster from home to first due to hitting from left side
And to second.
I haven’t seen that stat. Assumed or known?
I rhink the extra steps make a difference there as well.

Deux Lux
Rabbit!
Trea’s slide is a thing of beauty.
Okay, Tyler. Settle down.
Triply stung.
I wonder what our opponents’ record is in challenges.
100 percent.
Dunno. Saw something that said we are at 31%, with only two other teams worse.
DP not to be.
Stung by old friend Kyle.
This is the Dodger’s Lineup tonight.
1. T-Turner SS
2. Freeman 1B
3. Smith C
4. Muncy 3B
5. Taylor LF
6. J-Turner DH
7. Bellinger CF
8. Alvarez RF
9. Lux 2B
Meanwhile, down on the farm slugging 3rd base prospect Miguel Vargas getting his first career game in LF for OKC.
