Today in Dodgers’ history:

  • 1998 The Mets trade Preston Wilson, Geoff Goetz, and Ed Yarnell to the Marlins for Mike Piazza. Florida had acquired the All-Star catcher last week from the Dodgers, along with Todd Zeile in exchange for Gary Sheffield, Bobby Bonilla, Charles Johnson, Jim Eisenreich, and Manuel Barrios.
  • 1999 Mark McGwire becomes the third player to launch a ball out of Dodger Stadium when one of his two home runs travels 483 feet in the Cardinals’ 10-7 victory at Chavez Ravine. The slugging first baseman joins Willie Stargell, who accomplished the feat twice in 1969 and 1973, and Mike Piazza, whose Ruthian blast cleared the ballpark two seasons ago.

  1. Mookie made it closer than I expected, but winning run now in scoring position.

  2. C’mon, a hit by pitch on an 0-2 count? CORRECTION: It was a 1-2 count.

  3. The Dodgers have sent 16 batters to the plate through four innings: 9 Ks, 2 HRs, 2 ground outs, a line out and 1 walk. And a double.

  4. Joey Bart of the Gnats K’s in his first AB today, and is now 40-for-72 (.556).

  5. Not that he has had many chances, but Phillips is seeking his second career save today in five seasons. His career ERA is 5.99.

    • The season will be a hair shy of one-fourth over today. Muncy has had his chances. Time for a change.

  6. Muncy is more overdue than a library book that was checked out last year.

  7. Walk Schwarber who is hitting .203 to pitch to Segura hitting .290. Good job Dave.

  8. Phils cash in with 2 outs and runner on second, while Dodgers couldn’t do the same in the top of the ninth.

    Time for free baseball

    • He also misjudged Castellanos’ ball, but probably wouldn’t have caught it anyway.

  9. Muncy takes a lot of pitches in the zone looking for a walk. He needs to swing the freaking bat.

      • Doesn’t seem to want to use it. Gets in the hole looking at meat balls then swings at crap when he is down in the count.

  10. Leading 18-0 after 8 1/2 innings in Pittsburgh today, the Cardinals brought in Yadier Molina to pitch for the first time in his MLB career. He allowed four runs, including two homers, before retiring the side. Pujols hit two homers, including the first as a pinch-hitter. He also had allowed two homers in his MLB pitching debut in one inning recently.

  11. The Max Muncy show is getting hard to keep watching. We need a break Dave.

    • Yes. A great surprise. Also, he threw but 9 pitches in the 5th and is ow at 69.

      • I always thought he could be part of the rotation but, at this early stage of the season, he’s been elite.

  12. Rios:
    2019 — 4 HRs in 47 ABs
    2020 — 8 HRs in 76 ABs (shortened season)
2021 — missed nearly all the year with injuries
    2022 — 5 HRs in 44 ABs

  13. So if the Dodgers hitters strike out 10 times or more in a game, the after game buffet should be Jumbo Jacks.

  14. I see where the Mariners signed Justin Upton. I am surprised someone hadn’t signed him before now. Low to no risk move. Matt Carpenter and Jason Heyward still out there.
