Diamondbacks at Dodgers, 12:10 PM PDT, TV: BS Arizona, SPNLA
LHP Tyler Gilbert (0-1, 2.08 ERA) starts for the D-Backs in the first half of a day-night doubleheader; RHP Ryan Pepiot (0-0, 0.00 ERA) does the same for the Dodgers. This will be Gilbert’s third start of the year; he lost the first and in the second he faced the Dodgers, went three innings, gave up two hits and one run and got no decision. Pepiot will be making his second big league start; in his first he went three innings, walked five and struck out three but gave up just one hit and no runs.
Today in Dodgers’ history:
- 1947 At Forbes Field, Hank Greenberg asks Jackie Robinson if the Dodger infielder was hurt in a collision with him at first base earlier in the game and then tells the embattled Brooklyn rookie, “Stick in there. You’re doing fine. Keep your chin up.” Jackie will remark to the writers a few days later that his “diamond hero” is Hank Greenberg, knowing that the Pirates’ first baseman, who due to the bigotry endured as a Jew, can appreciate his difficulty of facing racial injustice every day as the first black player in the major leagues this century.
- 1978 Pinch-hitting for Davey Lopes in the Los Angeles 10-1 rout of the Pirates, Lee Lacy goes deep in the bottom of the eighth inning off Will McEnaney at Dodger Stadium. The utility player becomes the first player in major league history to homer in three consecutive at-bats as a pinch hitter.
- 1992 Using only 21 dates, the Blue Jays reach the one-million mark in attendance sooner than any team in major league history. The 1991 Blue Jays and the 1981 Dodgers shared the previous record.

Terrible play by Hanser, a normal flip would’ve worked.
On September 11, 1966, I attended a DH at Dodger Stadium. Koufax blanked the Trashtros 4-0 in the first game, then Joe Moeller, Bob Miller and Phil Regan combined on a 1-0 shutout in game two.
Long day/night.
First game 2:07, second game 2:13.
Used to go to scheduled twi-night double headers at Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati in the 1970s. Watched the Big Red Machine against the Garvey, Lopes, Russel, Cey Dodgers. Cost about $5.00.
NPUT
JT not hitting except when he does. OPS with RISP coming into the game of 1.006 in those situations. His 25 RBI place him among the leaders in the NL
YIppee!
See you guys in a couple hours!
Enjoy your afternoon.
Dinner time!
Indeed.
Kimbrel threw 28 pitches there. Might not see him again the rest of this series.
Should have been about 12.
Should be a reviewable call
So sez Flores!
And there it is.
Dodgers win!
Woo-PHEW!!!!!!
BALLGAME!!!
Ump giving us NOTHING.
This ump is conducting a clinic on bad calls.
It’s almost perversely purposeful at this point.
UMP!!!!!!
I forgot how much the DBacks like to play – and lose 1 run games. Let’s do this.
Don’t let Walker get to the plate please.
Ok. Deep breath and get the next guy.
Ump’s run.
An umpearned run.
Ha! Excellent.
You were the muse.
Jansen would balk the runner to third at this point.
Kimbrel did!
Indeed!
Good call.
KKimbrel. One more please.
2 down.
Glad Smith blocked that strike 3.
Unless you make contact, it’s not a swing.
Why the ejection? (Following on Gameday).

Wow!
Full swing through on strike three called a check swing.
Had he made contact, it woulda gone to the track.
First guy to the clubhouse spread.
Hopeful the rest of the team will join him in like 30 seconds.
Hopeful the rest of the team will join him in like 30 seconds.
Inexcusable call.
Total crap.
Need to make it reviewable.
Umpshow again…
This team will be scary if JT, Muncy, and Belli start to hit consistently.
Well he won’t be rusty.
Nice job by Phillips after getting squeezed on the first batter.
Nice job Cody.
The strike zone has disappeared again.
It’s in the Umps hip pocket I guess. He pulls it out only if he needs it.
Fredrick!
He was made for Hollywood.
Atta Boy Freddy.
C”mon Freddy. Join the hit parade.
Mookie. Stand up (double) kinda guy!
LOL. A bit of a homer though.
Time to tack on some more runs.
Message received.
Roger that.
If this was the last couple of years – the Dodgers would have just won game 1 of the 7 inning doubleheader.
Phew.
I thought Hanser was supposed to be a good contact guy. He is having trouble contacting his glove and the ball.
Our defense leaves a lot to be desired. Geez.
Not out of the woods yet.
Yeah. Uh oh!
Gilbert’s locating his gopher ball.
I’ve been walking and listening. Home just in time for the HR parade!!!! WOOT!
Dingerville!
JT joins the parade!!
What’s eating Gilbert Grape?

The Dodgers are eating Gilbert Grape Cookies!!!
Trea!
Wow!!
Yahtzee!!
Ha!
Oh Mookie!
Hanser and Mookie!
RALLY TIME!! Clap…Clap
A Willy Dilly.
87 pitches. Probably it for Pepiot.
Decent effort. One bad pitch. Still too many walks. Kept us in the game.
Better ball-strike ration than previous outing, and went deeper into game. However, still not quite ready for prime time.
So, it’ll be another comeback win today.
That was a prime meatball.
Ouch.
Right down broadway.
As soon as Smith had the PB – I knew the DBacks would capitalize.
We seem to pay dearly for every error we commit these days.
Absolutely.
In the end, the PB just meant a two run homer instead of a three run one, no?
Counter-factual contingencies in action!
Tightrope walking.

Way to go kid.
Even better that inning.
Pepiot K’s Walker on ball four.
Plate must be bigger in the minors, no?
Settle down kid. Trust your stuff.
Mechanically, he seems a mess.
His change-up is not coming close.
First double header at Dodger Stadium since 1999. Lets win two.
