Mets at Dodgers, 1:10 PM PDT, TV: FS1, SPNLA, WPIX
Old friend LHP Rich HIll (6-4, 4.08 ERA) goes for the Mets and RHP Max Scherzer (10-4, 2.89 ERA) goes for the Dodgers.
Today in Dodgers’ history:
- 1975 The Reuschel brothers of the Cubs join forces to blank the Dodgers, 6-0. Rick goes 6 1/3 innings and Paul finishes the game for the first shutout thrown by siblings.
- 1990 The Phillies overcome an eight-run deficit, scoring nine runs in the top of the ninth inning to beat the Dodgers, 12-11. John Kruk’s pinch-hit three-run homer ties the game, and two batters later, Carmelo Martinez’s double plates Rod Booker with the eventual winning run in the Chavez Ravine contest.
- 2005 Florida suspends their bat boy for six games after the 11 year-old accepts former Marlin and current Dodger hurler Brad Penny’s $500 dare to drink a gallon of milk in less than an hour without throwing up. The Milk Processor Education Program will promise to pay off the dare and to cover the lost wages resulting from the suspension if the sixth grader, who is able to drink the quantity in the allotted time but cannot keep it down, agrees to drink three glasses every 24 hours.

NPUT
The Gnats gnow trail only 5-4 after the shipment of BALCO Flaxseed Oil finally appears to have arrived in their clubhouse.
Miguel Castro is 6-7, 205 lbs, a veritable beanstalk.
Great deke by Tío Albert!
Ha! Rundown by Albert.
Tio Albert! Using his guile.
Jon was just remarking on Trea’s recent dinger drought.

Good thing because gnats up by one now.
They’re merely delaying the inevitable.
Dang Oakland
Rats!!
Now come on Oakland, 2 outs to go
Kenley is back
Yowsers!
I was pacing.
Yes, Geronimo!
Woo-HOO!!!!
It’s in the hole.
Breathe everyone
If you were Alonso, are you thinking single to tie it up or over the fence?
Well, if we are good enough
Well they won’t be IBB mc Neil
Misplay by Trea…
Did they have a chance to double up the runner?
Yes. Had him if Trea catches the ball.
Ouch
Hopefully it won’t leave a mark.
Easily.
All these pickoffs prolong the agony
Sf can’t score with 2 on and none out
Pillar should be an easy out. No plate discipline at all.
DP please!
Not likely with Nimmo.
Anyone gets on base we will need to deal with Pete.
Crawford caught stealing 3rd base!
Please be Good Kenley rather than Bad Kenley.
Don’t fall in love with the cutter Kenley. It is not your best pitch anymore.
Go back to the cutter, all is forgiven
Please buckle your seat belts and return your seat backs and tray tables to the upright position. We may be experiencing some turbulence.
Lucky Casalli can’t lay down a bunt
Sf threatening to take the lead in Oakland
Tack on some runs boys.
Leave Barnes in to catch Kenley.
Pitcher would be due up third in the 8th in that case. Think the bench is empty now, no?
Just Lux
Thanks.
Need some more runs..
Time for a morning cup of tea during the stretch
Seager’s running catch was very nicely done on the last out.
Especially given the shift v. Conforto.
That hurt.
Bellinger coulda caught that.
Yes. Jumped but didn’t time it right with where the wall was.
Defensively speaking, A.J. is no Bellinger.
Belli is also taller, with longer arms.
That dude who robbed Pujols would have caught it.
Alonso – the HR King. (And a misplay at the wall.) too bad we didn’t score more in the previous inning.
I take it back
Ha!
To be fair the Hr ball was off the plate
It was not a bad pitch.
The way he hit that reminded me of Adrian Beltre
Alright Blake, let’s find the plate
But not too much of it.
Nibble at the edges
Let’s hope 3 is enough
Pen has been great, but won’t last forever.
Indeed it wont
Blew a great opportunity to blow it open.
It was only a small can
7 ouncer.
I wish it was 7 runs instead
Argh! Only one run out of that!
Shoulda been a big inning.
Bellinger, now is your chance!
So much for that.
Belli needs to sit when Mookie gets back.
Interesting article
In the Athletic today about it. All about the lingering lack of strength coming back from surgery.
I think these unis are awful. Either they’re meant for beer-league softball players or they’re pajamas.
Some day the Dodgers should show up at Citi Field in Brooklyn uniforms.
I like them, mostly because of the “Los Dodgers” logo. At least we don’t have ombré going on like the D-backs.
I wouldn’t like them if they wore them every day. Btw Link did you like the pure white ones we wore a while back?
I like the standard white home uniforms and the traveling grays. No need to fancy them up.
I don’t remember the ones you mention.

Ugh. Those were awful. Perhaps the worst ever.
Agree
Ah, yes. I loathe them. 😉
It did make Justin look like he was a time traveller
Open a can Dodgers.
A big can
Let’s make this count (love the all blue uni’s BTW)
Needs a white belt.
No, no, no. Then they’d look like poorly dressed golfers.
I like them as well!
Gameday: Matt Beaty singles on a fly ball to third baseman J. D. Davis
A fly ball?
Dinked it in over his head.
Ah. Thanks.
A little Texas leaguer.
Need more runs.
Gutsy effort by Scherzer.
Now 5-2 Oaks after four, but the lead should be bigger.
Bah-Dah-Bing
MAX wins the battle!
Clutch futuring!
Davis wanted that one back.
He’s not long for this game.
Gassed.
Over thirty pitches this inning.
Dig deep, Max. Only need
One more out..
Gotta get Pete, Max.
Well, not what I meant.
Ha! Max is struggling suddenly.
Is Trea Turner the first Dodgers leadoff hitter with legitimate power since Davey Lopes? Or am I forgetting someone?
Maury Wills at the Polo Grounds.
How quickly we forget: Mookie for most of this year
One blogger’s ranking of LA Dodger leadoff guys.
True.
Joc! (he, he) Though not a legit leadoff guy, I guess.
Joc was also used elsewhere, but you are right.
Joc is actually second to Davey in leadoff home runs by a Dodger, 21 to 28, I believe.
A’s lead the Giants, 4-2, after three. All three A’s runs in the first inning were unearned. Flores, at third base for the Giants, made a three-base error on the first batter of the game.
CT3 makes it 3.
Boom!
NL West records in August:
Dodgers 13-3
Giants 13-4
Rockies 9-7
Diamondbacks 8-9
Padres 7-9
Third inning in a row where Max has struck out the batter for the third out with a runner in scoring position.
Scherzer can really bear down. The Mets have put a man on second in every inning and are 0-for-6 with RISP.
Seager butchers one.
The Dodgers and the Diamondbacks share the MLB lead with the most unearned runs allowed at 63. But, surprisingly, we have only the 11th worst fielding percentage.
Yes, though not an easy play.
I will always have a warm spot for Rich Hill. I hope he pitches well today and that we win. It’s as simple as that.
I have become friends with a local businessman who was a Red Sox farmhand while Rich Hill was pitching for Boston. I asked him who was the nicest person he ever met in baseball. His answer was Rich Hill. On the opposite side of the spectrum: Jon Lester.
My direct connections with professional baseball players are limited, but the nicest I ever met was Ron Cey. I first saw him play in junior high, and he was shockingly modest about his abilities.
It’s now 3-0 in Oaktown, and Gooseman isn’t out of the first yet.
Very nice, Tio.
Not Sorry, Uncle Albert.
The batter wasn’t svelte and he put it in the stands.
In the first, Dodgers take lead over Mutts, A’s take lead over Gnats.
Notice that there is a little of the Snake uniform business (not sure what you call it) that I dislike so much. Thank goodness that is all.
Won’t be around for today’s game. But a friend from university just sent me a picture – she and her husband are at the game.
