Today’s game marks exactly twice the number of games played last year.
Pirates at Dodgers, 7:10 PM PDT, TV: ATT SportsNet PIT, SPNLA
RHP Wil Crowe (3-7, 5.27 ERA) goes for the Buccos and LHP David Price (4-1, 3.60 ERA) goes for the Dodgers.
Today in Dodgers’ history:
- 1992 Kevin Gross, retiring 22 of the final 23 batters he faces on his wife’s birthday, no-hits the Giants at Dodger Stadium, 2-0. The LA right-hander’s no-no averts the team from being swept in a four-game series at home against the Giants for the first time in 69 years.
- 2013 Clayton Kershaw blanks the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park, 5-0, giving the Dodgers their first double-digit winning streak since 2006. The team’s 42 victories in their last fifty games, including a 25-3 mark since the All-Star break, equals the 1941 Yankees and 1942 Cardinals for the best record for that span of games since 1900.

Tonight's #Dodgers lineup vs. Pirates: pic.twitter.com/yCRajuWRiJ
— Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) August 17, 2021
The Dodgers have committed 71 errors thus far in 2021 – tied for fourth most in MLB with the Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies.
63 Unearned runs.
Another reason for concern.
What? Me Worry.
Kenleys’ stats:
25 SV, 5 BS.
48.1 IP, 31 H, 20 R, 58 SO, 31 BB. Way to many walks.
31 IP, 20 R, 16 ER pitching to Will Smith
17 1/3 IP, 0 ER, 0 R pitching to Austin Barnes
Yep, he worries me. And, we have a better option to close games.
NPUT
Not that inning.
Sooooo tired of the Gnats winning. 1-0 SF top of the 8th, 2 outs. Can the Mets pull something off here?
Cody!! Let’s Go!
Whoops and by Cody I mean Beaty. I am distracted because of 3 raccoons that came into – and left – our backyard.
They can be intimidating with those bandit masks.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svHDHnxYjs4
Pads came back with three solo dingers to get within a run, then gave three runs on two Rox dingers. 7-3 Denver in the eighth.
Puds losing kind of warms the heart, doesn’t it?
I’d rather the Gnats lost also.
Advancing those runners is still too difficult. Poor situational hitting.
Hayes’ numbers not a shiny as earlier in the year. Looks to have talent.
Kenley, Kenley, Kenley. Why do you torment us so?
Phew!!
This crap won’t cut it in the playoffs.
Be happy, Ohio Dodger!
LOL
I share the concern of our friend from the Buckeye State, where I lived for several years.
Yeah, where did you live?
Playoffs?! Playoffs?! Lol
https://www.google.ca/search?q=playoffs+mora+gif&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-ca&client=safari#imgrc=iUkxWGUvYyC_HM
Mora the same.
No, it won’t, particularly shoddy defense.
And leaving so many RISP.
That was quick
Let’s go Kenley, clap clap, clap clap woo-HOO!!!!!
Dodgers win!
Dave delivers!
Not like you couldn’t see this coming. Eh Dave?
Two out
Nice futuring there!
Bad Kenley tonight. We need a DP now.
Pop up or easy ground ball please
Get to work, future people!
Not good.
Groan.
Soft contact falls in.
Hmmm
Hair growing grayer by the minute.
Should be strike two Ump.
And strike three!
Good Grief!!
Bad futuring?
Bad pitching.
Kenley not so sharp as last night.
Kenley’s “are you KIDDING me” expression was priceless after that hit.
It was preposterous. Couldn’t get around on the pitch.
Very boy-ish expression.
Speaking of which, his 6-year-old son is a mini-me.
Tres adorbs as the kids say.
3 for 16 RISP, 8 LOB, and 10SO. Not very good. However it becomes trivial if we win the game.
I still say the Dodgers are playing the right team at the right time. Doesn’t take their A game to win a game – and hopefully the series.
Fasten seatbelt time?
Another k looking by CT3.
I’d suggest a night off tomorrow for Taylor.
This is very likely just anecdotal but I swear AJ gets more throw overs when he is on base than any other Dodger. Maybe he is just the perfect balance between speedy and not speedy?
Many unproductive outs tonight with a runner on second and none out.
So who closes this baby out?
Kenley. Unless the Dodgers score a bunch here.
I agree. And if we score at least two, I’d go to Vesia.
C’mon boys, insurance.
AJ back at it.
Treinen seems unhittable.
He is something else. He was 9-2 with 38 saves and an 0.78 ERA with the A’s in 2018 and tied for 6th in the Cy Young vote with . . . Trevor Bauer.
I remember being super excited when the Dodgers signed him. Still very glad he is in the Dodger pen.
These days, I wish he was our closer.
Amen.
Nice inning from of Evil Knebel
If he formed a duo with our third base coach would it be called Ebel Knebel?
Ha!
Beautiful!
Beatyful.
The Mets-Giants game took 2:27. Shortest game of the year?
Late to the parade once more. Some observations: I know the team is tired, but why bench Muncy, who had hit three homers in the last two games, against a righty? Regarding Lux, this is the first time in his short MLB career that he has ever played third base. It shows. In the minors Lux has played three games at third base, all this year at OKC, and made one error in five chances…Why was the second run allowed by Price ruled earned? Can’t you assume an out at the plate on a good throw?
Official scorer must have felt that runner would have beaten the throw. Error allowed hitter to go to second.
Jetlag isn’t over in a day, and you gotta rest some of your regulars.
Out of curiosity, am I right that those fields in Seaside get a lot of wind?
It can be very windy and cold in Seaside when the wind comes off Monterey Bay. Seaside High is close to the bay, and cold and windy weather was frequently the case at sporting events there when I covered high school sports a few decades ago. It was also true when I coached JV baseball at Carmel High 15 years ago and we had road games in Seaside, but Cutino Field is quite a way from the bay with many blocks of buildings between it and the water.

Ian and Sylvia: A great Canadian folk duo that formed in the late 1950s.
I do recall https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3m7ckGhnsc
Good stuff that!
Yes, but not so good as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PH0K6ojmGZA
13 games in 13 days with a redeye from the East you, need to give guys a break. BTW, Max hits lefties better than righties. (he crushes both).
Good points.
Belli down on the high cheese again.
Sheese, he eats lotsa cheese.
And seems to be lactose intolerant.
Ha! . . . And will he ever reach the Mendoza Line?
Unproductive, Will.
Very bad futuring.
Also uncharacteristic. He let a few cookies go by.
Mutts get tying run into scoring position, outhit the Gnats 8-5, but still lose.
Annnnnd, gnats win.
*Mutts lose.
What’s Will waiting for?
Good Will is hunting for the right pitch.
Seager. Double. Like burger and fries.
Mister Doubles.
Alright. Now let’s score some runs.
So we lost at least one Price inning due to the Lux errors.
Hopefully the Dodgers can get away with it since its the Pirates they are facing. But against top teams it would be very costly.
Mutts have clumb within a run of the Gnats, but it’s late.
Oh Lux. You need to make a better throw than that. (Part 2)
https://twitter.com/DanielBrim/status/1427840632559702018?s=20
Good comp.
Meh. They tried Joc at first to keep his bat in the lineup. Lux just a fill in in a pinch.
More specifically – the fielding adventures are a fit.
CT3 has had a couple himself this game out in RF.
Yeah, but they didn’t cost Price anything.
I noticed that.
Ball sure finding Gavin.
Live arm.
The Pads have lost again, 7-3.
Oh Lux. Got to make a better throw than that.
I’m already tired of the Gavin Lux show. If the episodes don’t start getting better, they need to cancel it.
Or perhaps send it to another station in a swap for another show.
Sure wish we would have shipped him off in the Betts trade instead of Verdugo.
I hear that. But it made sense that they traded position for position and Lux did rock out in Trip A – so I got it back then.
Bosox didn’t need an SS. Verdugo was already a proven hitter in the majors.
And this.
A’s starter got hit by a liner tonight. https://twitter.com/BASportsGuy/status/1427829980377980929?s=20
How terrifying.
Perhaps the saddest play in baseball. Definitely super scary.
AJ!!
Thanks for waiting til I got home until you scored Dodgers.
Ha. Me, too! Listening on the radio, though.
My son and I were at the local baseball game. Winnipeg Goldeyes of the American Association League.
Independent league now, isn’t it?
Yes sir it is.
Fargo-Moorhead’s in the league, no? (I am Fargoan by birth, though my family lived in Moorhead).
How do they deal with Covid border restrictions?
Lesser issue at present, I think, but probably affected beginning of season.
Goldeyes have played about 80 games in the season but only recently came back to Winnipeg for home games.
What’s a goldeye?
Type of fish.
Let’s go Fish! Lol
I’m guessing it’s a fish.
And it is – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goldeye
Mister Doubles.
Another hesitant route by CT3, but makes the catch.
Nice play by Lux.
Poor route shows lack of experience by CT3 in playing RF.
Lets hope Lux has a turn around like Beaty when he went down to OKC.
Of course, Beaty had past success and was able to work on things to get back to that level. Lux hasn’t shown much in the Bigs to get back to.
Good point. Really hasn’t lived up to all the prospect hype.
Belli still way behind on the high cheese.
He’s not all the way back yet.
Trea has never met a pitch he didn’t like.
I dunno, that was on a full count. Your statement may be truer of Seager.
In general he is a bad ball hitter, doesn’t walk very much.
Nor does Seager. Is Trea a Clemente – good bad ball hitter, better good ball hitter?
Trea tends to walk less and K more than Corey.
I’m kinda surprised by that. Corey swings at a lot of first pitches and so I would have thought he wouldn’t walk as much.
He doesn’t walk a lot, just more than Trea.
Gotcha.
Swings less at the second pitch? (pitcher almost always try to get a first pitch strike).
Puds losing again 3-0 in the 5th inning. They are really tanking. Cincinnati just may catch them for the 2nd WC spot. Only 2 games back.
Andre sent back down, so next appearance uncertain, unless he comes back up to replace player going to the IL, which happens.
Hay alineación. Vuelve Lux. https://twitter.com/Dodgers/status/1427764516931047426?s=20
Interesting line up
Lux v. JT?
Going through 13 straight games, guys need a day off. Makes sense to do it against the Filibusteros, no?
I guess.
