Giants at Dodgers, 7:10 PM PDT, TV: NBCS BA, SPNLA
The visiting Giants send RHP Logan Webb (4-3, 3.54 ERA) to the Dodger Stadium mound to face the Dodgers’ LHP Julio Urías (12-3, 3.78 ERA). Urías’ 12 wins tie him for the Major League Lead with the Cubs’ Kyle Hendricks.
On this date in Dodgers’ history:
- 1930 Harvey Henrick’s ninth-inning three-run round-tripper off the bench gives the Dodgers a dramatic 9-8 come-from-behind victory over the Redbirds at Ebbets Field in the first game of a twin bill. Redbirds George Puccinelli and Jim Bottomley and Brooklyn’s Hal Lee also homer appearing as pinch-hitters in the game.
- 1956 In a 13-6 defeat to the Cubs, Dodgers’ shortstop Pee Wee Reese becomes one of five active players to collect 2000 hits, and teammate Junior Gilliam sets a major league record by handling 12 assists at second base.
- 1963 The usually mild-mannered Dodger manager Walter Alston is thrown out of both games of a doubleheader when the Braves sweep a twin bill from Los Angeles for the first and only time in Milwaukee, 7-2 and 13-7. To make matters worse, the manager has beer thrown in his face by a hometown fan as he leaves the second game. (My thanks to Lee for sharing this entry. He attended the game at County Stadium as a ten year-old. -LP)
- 2003 At Dodger Stadium, Vladimir Guerrero hit his 226th career home run, breaking Andre Dawson’s club record. The Expos’ right fielder hits his milestone round-tripper off Odalis Perez, a 454-foot blast over the left field wall.

Wasted a Urias beauty. Kenley stunk, but the offense was also pathetic.
That was the same exact pitch he called a strike on us. And I should know. I’m inches away.
Way to go, Julio!! Clap Clap
Julio is cooking out there. Nothing to the outfield even since the Belli catch.
Julio has throw as many as 101 this year, but Doc might be tempted to bring a righty against Ruf.
Up to Doc. They are worried about his workload this year.
Might not want him to face Ruf again with this score.
Good throw from their catcher despite the awkward catch.
Bad defence coming into play this inning.
It is becoming the norm for this team.
Sadly true.
We won’t repeat as champions if our defense doesn’t get a lot better.
So is bad spelling.
And bad manners as well.

Merriam Webster and the OED seem to back me comfortably.
The defence rests. Case closed.
My screenshot is from Merriam-Webster. Case closed.

That’s why I went with an additional source.
You misspelled “superannuated” (which also makes nice alliteration).
Thairo mystery solved. Father named Jairo (or Jhairo), so they just made it up for a twist.
I saw that in the SF Comicle.
Joe mentioned it.
Belli wheels again! Oh, and AJ again!
Max catches over his hurting shoulder.

Kenley blew another save?
21 saves, 4 blown saves. 84%. Kimbrel: 22 saves, 2 blown saves.
Second worse loss of the year.
Feels like the worst right now.
Fair enough!

We need a deja vu from Rogers.
Doc gone. Ump should be gone.
Need a walk-off 3 run inning.
Need four actually. Oh. Never mind.
So they can win by 2?
My bad.
Well in your defence – it certainly feels like 4 is needed.
*defense
I’m living rent free in your head. Defence rests.
Defence is proper British English.
Total crap. He’s been calling that a strilke all night.
UMP!!!!
Blue making me blue.
Speaking or feeling? Or both?
He blew it.
Sacre bleu!
Can we sneak CT3 into the batting order in the bottom of the 9th somehow?
Wade still hitting .000 off LHPs.
good start Victor
Victor hasn’t shined in his outings for awhile.
he’s due then
Now pitching, tonight’s winning pitcher, Victor Gonzalez.
Hoo boy Victor is in a tight spot.
So we’ll need another walk off then
Or two.
He’s gone. Too bad. But it makes sense.
Kenley getting booed bigtime.
Unfortunate.
Treinen was so smooth and efficient in the 8th. And then this tire-fire of an outing. But it happens. Hopefully next time Jansen pitches though, it is with a 3 run lead.
Time to get on the phone with Chicago and talk Kimbrel.
Kimbrel blew one big tonight.
Still having a very good year.
Asking price will be very high.
So you are saying he must be good then.
How nice of you to agree with me.
This is so disappointing after Julio’s great start.
Totally.
Pathetic.
Jansen is in one of his slumps I guess.
Needs to get mad again.
Hasn’t really been elite since 2017, until revilatized this year.
We needed a few more runs earlier, clearly.
Smith leads off.
Hmm.
Ugh.
Total disaster.
Good eyes by the ump on that one!
Foul ball saved an error.
Ugh.
DP please.
¡Poseur de miércoles!
I’m nervous. No walks please.
Well, that was weak.
Coming your way RBI!
CT3 error reversed.
Appropriately.
What was the play?
Infield hit that was initially ruled an error.
He bobbled it, or what?
Helps CT3 – but maybe not Urias. Lol
Backhanded deep in the hole. Would have required a perfect throw to get the runner. CT3’s throw had the speed, but not quite the accuracy.
Nifty DP.
Thanks, Thairo!
Nice DP!
Tough error.
No video here. What happened?
Very tough. If it stands. Should get reversed.
Belli whiffs again on the high heat.
Completely lost right now at the plate.
Everybody whiffed on this guy’s pitches.
Yep. He was dealing. Gotta lay off that high gas.
Taylor does it all. Gotta get him resigned.
Bring back CT3!
Urias doing his best not to embarrass Belli in the OPS department.
Belli leaving the door wide open unfortunately.
Batting average still 70 points higher.
Got out of it.
Good job by Julio, but a lot of pitches (19). Probably good for one more inning.
Exactly.
Strike this SOB out.
Or pop him up on the infield. Just as good.
Righties own Pujols. I think I would have started Neuse at 2nd and Muncy at 1st.
His slowfootedness certainly cost the Dodgers there.
Urias wondering where all his usual run support is at…
AJ!
WOOT!! Speed doesn’t slump.
That Ruf AB was rough.
That AB probably cost us an extra inning of Urias.
Thinking the same, unless he can make it up.
At least he got the guy behind Ruf on 2 pitches. That helped alot.
Tough pitch for strike 3.
This ump has a liberal low strike zone.
Nice catch Belli.
He’s an elite defender anywhere you put him.
Shortstop?
That would be interesting. A friend of mine once fielded a slow pitch team in which everybody batted and threw left. Their name was “This Ain’t Right.” They won the tournament.
Love the name of the team.
He recruited quite a roster.
Geez Zach, swing the freaking bat.
Wade continues to hit .000 v LHPs.
They’re terrified of Smith.
Question of the night: Will Urias pass Belli in OPS?
Ok maybe there are more important questions but still, I will be tracking it.
One hit might do it for Urias. Belli is pitiful.
Ka-Boom!!
¡Despídalo con un beso!
CT3 on a roll!
Julito usually gets great run support, so get it started!
Good lord. My friend has dugout seats! I’m staring at Ruf’s back.
Well, at least you don’t have to see his face.
Mean.
Just an observation.
Sweet seats!
The Poseur is sitting this one out.
Hopefully Urias can get through the 1st inning unscathed. Really gonna need his A game tonight. Go Dodgers!!!
Close but no cigar.
Not quite.
Dodgers pick up Bill McKinney from Mets. Never heard of him, but would provide a more experienced option than Reks. Lefthanded batting outfielder, who has been about league average in hitting righthanded pitchers.
You know at some point McKinstry and McKinney will bat back to back in the lineup.
Both names from Ulster, but the highest density of McKinneys is in Bahamas.
Speed and high-level defense.
