Dodgers at Rockies, 1:10 PM PDT, TV: ATT SportsNet RM, SPNLA
LHP David Price (4-0, 3.23 ERA) starts for the Dodgers and RHP Jon Gray (6-6, 3.77 ERA) goes for the Rockies.
Today in Dodgers’ history:
- 1939 The Red Sox send 21 year-old farmhand Pee Wee Reese to the Dodgers for $35,000 and a player to be named later (Red Evans), along with three minor leaguers due to a less-than-enthusiastic scouting report filed by Joe Cronin, the team’s current player-manager, who deliberately downplayed the prospect’s talent to keep his own job in the Boston infield. The Louisville Colonels regular shortstop, a future Hall of Famer, will become a crowd favorite, helping Brooklyn to win seven pennants during his 16 seasons with the team.
- 1949 Jackie Robinson testifies in front of the House Committee on Un-American Activities, reading a carefully worded statement put together with the help of Dodger GM Branch Rickey. The Brooklyn second baseman’s statement makes it clear he disagrees with singer and actor Paul Robeson’s belief that American Negroes would refuse to fight in any war against Russia due to the country’s racial discrimination toward blacks.

Hey Hey Hey it’s Big Albert rumbling home.
Another line drive in the boxscore for AJ!
Ironically, they had scheduled fireworks for after the game last night at National Stadium.
Must have been frightening. We were there the night before with young children. Although they have built up around the stadium, the area across the street has historically been a “rough” neighborhood and continue to be such to some extent.
My only game in DC was an exhibition between the Redbirds and the Orangebirds at RFK (which was then outfitted with an LA Coliseum screen).
Well phooey.
I have serious doubts that we will ever see the first half 2019 Belli again. Or, that Lux will live up to his prospect hype.
Missing Nelson in the pen.
And Knebel.
Dodgers 1-8 in extra innings.
1-9 now, I think.
7-game home stand coming up — four against the Giants and three against the Rockies.
I’d be fine with going 5-2.
I’m finer with 7-0.
We need to win 3 of 4 from the Giants this week to end that series in first place. Will it be Gonsolin-bullpen game-Urias-Buehler?
A dispiriting loss. Bickford fails his first major test, although he can’t be blamed for the runner scoring from second.
We snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Very disappointing.
Can’t really blame the Rockies for winning. The Dodgers gave them 2 free runs.
On the bright side, Nats have just walked off v. the Pads.
Oh for cryin’ out loud.
Rats.
Ditto.
Scoring one run in the top half of an extra inning seems like holding serve in tennis.
Not scoring is like a double fault.
Good analogy.
Thanks. You too.
I’ve never played tennis and know almost nothing about it, but I guess that makes sense.
We’ll see if Bickford is up to the task.
Rox get a fast ghost runner.
CT3 didn’t really atone for his error.
In DC, tied going to bottom of ninth.
Uncle Albert!
We’re so sorry…
Admiral Halsey.
Pujols wheels!
They could pinch-run for Pujols with Muncy going to first and Barnes to second. Or am I wrong on the possible defensive alignment?
Max is due.
Givens gives.
Nats (gnot Gnats) have blow lead as Pads tie it in the ninth.
Get Kenley the win!
If it goes to the tenth, Albert will be the ghost runner.
So – they will have to earn it.
It’s been about ten days since Kenley pitched.
If they hadn’t blown it open last night, he would have pitched in a 5-2 game yesterday.
Not a great time to check in again. Ooph.
Argh!
Speaking of the 10th inning…
Ok Kenley. Pretend it’s the bottom of the 10th.
Closing time.
Hamstring for Lux, it would seem.
Hoping it’s a cramp, but likely hamstring.
The way he grabbed it…
Lux limping
Seager sooner than expected, perhaps.
More likely CT3 just moves over there for the time being.
Thinking tomorrow.
Can’t imagine he would be fast tracked at this point.
He’s very close.
I understand that he is yet to have played in the field.
And Lux is now out.
Well, that one won’t appear as a line drive in the box score for AJ.
Insurance runs please.
Nats (gnot the Gnats) have come from behind and now lead the Pads 7-6 in the eighth.
Story’s deadline value may be plummeting.
Sluggo is hot!
Kept it fair!
Such a sweet swing!
Will Smith!!!
Need some late inning scoring here Dodgers.
I guess by winning percentage the Giants would still be ahead of the Dodgers even if the Dodgers manage to come back to win this one.
Yep. ,630 to .627 if we win.
Yes, it would be a virtual tie.
JT’s defense is deteriorating.
DH can’t get here too soon for JT.
Never!
Scorer keeps going back and forth. Looked like an error to me.
Agreed. It always was.
Ack!
Kelly digging himself a big hole.
Coors hasn’t yet reared its ugly head today.
I’ve reached the point, sorry to say, that I am surprised when Bellinger gets a hit.
Here’s hoping he is saving them up for October.
That’s what Muncy did last year – his regular-season numbers were not good.
Pollock on the other hand can sometimes go the opposite way. And I say this as someone who likes AJ.
That would be nice, but right now . . .
Yep. Right now he is very much lost at the plate.
Our new Eugenio Velez.
I won’t go that far, but . . .
It is heading that way in a hurry. Somethings got to give. One way or the other.
Ouch! Lol
Ok Belli. Prove Roberts right here.
The Cardinals just finished off the Giants, 2-1.
The Redbirds have a closer who can barely throw strikes, but he stopped the Gnats again today.
Not sure what Roberts is thinking batting Belli leadoff. Should have Pollock leading off and Belli hitting 7th.
Before today, Belli was 11-for-18 career v. Gray.
That is probably what he was thinking. Didn’t work however. Current numbers are more reliable.
Dipping in and out. Dodgers playing a bit sloppy. Again.
Yep. Our defense is a point of concern.
Dodgers 11th in the NL in fielding percentage; the Giants are 1st.
Fielding percentage in itself can be a very misleading statistic.
It can also be a very accurate statistic. In this case, I think it reflects the frequent sloppy play by the Dodgers, who the last time I checked led the majors in unearned runs allowed.
Ghost runners count as unearned runs now, so that could be part of it. That said, I agree with you at least partially. The departure of Quique is also probably a factor this season.
Gnats still trail 2-1 after 7-1/2,
I can’t believe what I just saw…
No ears, no eyes. What did Taylor do (or not do)?
He butchered an easy popup. Either he or Muncy could’ve had it.
Did it hit anyone’s glove?
It clanked off of Taylor’s glove.
Thanks.
Woof. CT-E
Toughest situation for Reed among his few appearances.
He did fine. Not his fault.
Yes.
22 pitches for Price in the first. 44 total over the next three.
Nice DP! Price gives us 4.
After seven at Busch’s Biergarten, Redbirds gobbling down Gnats 2-1.
Heard some speculations that Gray could be a trade target for the Dodgers. It’s hard to imagine this kind of trade within the division, but Gray has pitched pretty well thus far this afternoon.
Redturn2 run HR
Nice JT!
JT!
At least Bellinger got the bat on the ball. He’s really struggling.
Indeed.
Price with the line drive – in the box score.
Harder hit than AJ’s?
Went down the third base line a bit farther.
62 mph v. AJ’s 61.
Ha!

Base hit with runner on third fails to score him!
Unlike the play in Pittsburgh earlier today when a similar type of hit cleared the bases.
