Game 82, 2021

Dodgers at Nationals, 4:10 PM PDT, TV: MASN, MLBN (out-of-market only), SPNLA

The visiting Dodgers send LHP Julio Urias (9-3, 3.95 ERA) to the mound to face the Nationals’ RHP Max Scherzer (7-4, 2.14 ERA). Let us hope that Scherzer keeps his pants on.

Today in Dodgers’ history:

  • 1962 Johnny Podres ties a major league mark record, striking out eight consecutive batters in LA’s 5-1 victory over Philadelphia. The 29 year-old southpaw’s streak begins with the third out in the top of the fourth frame and ends after the first out in the seventh inning of the Dodger Stadium contest.
  • 1995 Dodger right-hander Hideo Nomo, who is leading the National League in strikeouts, becomes the first player from Japan to be selected for the major league All-Star game. As the starter for the Senior Circuit, the 26 year-old rookie tosses two scoreless innings in the National League’s 3-2 victory over their American League rivals at The Ballpark in Arlington.

    • When I said there was no Nat I disliked, I’d forgotten that Parra was back with them.

  1. How often do errors come from players thinking about the DP before they make the actual play?

  2. Fillies have blown a 3-0 lead in the ninth, and the Pads put the go-ahead run on second but failed to score him. Fillies have heart of the order in bottom of ninth.

  3. I simply don’t understand why infielders bounce throws. The ball gets there much faster in the air.

  4. No Bauer on Sunday. Pretty much knew that was coming from day one. Not sure why they waited to make it so.

  5. So after the ump squeezed the Dbacks pitcher, calling two clear strikes balls, so Duggar walked the bases full, the gnext gnat hit a grand slam. Top of the 9th, 11-4 gnats.

  6. Would be extra sweet if the D’Bags can find a way to defeat the G’nats. Not likely however.

  7. Thoughts on the caps the Dodgers have on this weekend?

Double the interlocking LA, double the fun?

  8. A whole bunch of early and ridiculously early Dodger games coming up for all you west-coasters.
    And then there’s Link…

  9. I sat down for dinner after Taylor’s double to start the inning.

    MY OH MY!

  10. Had another nice interaction with Joe Kelly, commenting on his mariachi jacket at the White .

  11. Pretty exciting here. Always a good number of Dodger fans in the stands.

  12. Prior to tonight’s game the Dodgers had allowed more unearned runs this season, 46, than any other team in MLB. Part of that, but only part of that, is attributable to our poor record in extra-inning games. If the runner placed on second scores, it is counted as an unearned run. We are 1-7 in extra-inning games.

  13. None of the Nats much bothers me, since they’re gnot Gnats. Starlin Castro is a little annoying though.

  14. Here are the first three paragraphs of the Bauer story from MLB.com:

WASHINGTON — Major League Baseball announced on Friday that Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer has been placed on seven-day administrative leave while the league continues its investigation into sexual assault claims brought against Bauer earlier this week. Bauer, according to his representatives, will not appeal the decision at this time.

Bauer, who will receive pay and service time during the leave, had been scheduled to start against the Nationals on Sunday.

Under the joint domestic policy agreed upon by MLB and the MLB Players Association, the Commissioner’s Office can also ask the Players Association to consent to extending the initial seven-day administrative leave period for an additional seven-day increments. Placement on
administrative leave is not a pronouncement of guilt

      • You expect a centerfielder to make a pretty good throw to third on a medium-deep fly ball. I was not surprised by the throw. That’s Robles’ fifth assist this season. The bottom line is they got him and it cost us a run.

        • It had to be perfectly online nevertheless, and didn’t necessarily cost a run. Scherzer might well have pitched Turner differently with a runner on second.

  15. After an innings, the Fillies lead the Pads 2-0 on RBI groundouts by Realmuto and Harper.Ex-Gnat and likely All-Star Wheeler going for Fills.
